Radio shack sucks.
Do not buy their shit especially adapters (personal experience). The adapters from PSX->PC = DELAY LIKE CRAZY
Hardware emulation is BETTER than software emulation.
X-Box 360 uses software emulation and look how crappy that is. Some x-box games work with it, some don’t. I think they only made the effort to write software compatibility patches for the uber-popular tier titles, and skipped most of the rest (ya know…due to them being lazy / schedule problems).
For example: MVC2 for X-Box is NOT one of the titles they choose to make backward compatible with 360.
Yup I’ll take hardware emulation over THAT any day.
No way. Radioshack’s PSX-to-USB adaptors work GREAT.

has anybody tried the doa4 xbox360 stick on the ps3 yet?
Seeing as you need those shitty Microsoft drivers to use the stick for PC… I’m sure it doesnt work for the PS3 either.
So how is using a PS1 PCB stick on a PS3?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t there also a lot of games that PS3 couldn’t play?

Supposedly 200 or so were reported to have problems out of 8000, but with a lot of them being pretty recent. I don’t remember them being too major though. For example, Tekken 5 had music playing problem on some stages.
But yeah, I guess those people who said first generation sony products are never to be trusted are actually right. To think I was going to buy a PS3 just so I could play my copies of Bushido Blade 2, Clock Tower, MVC2, and Tekken Tag Tournament JUST BECAUSE my first generation ps2 crapped out on playing those…
I like software emulation on the new systems more than hardware compatibility…basically because if I wanted PS2 hardware I would just keep my PS2. Which I would. The biggest reason is because…I would like to play my old games on my new system only if my old games don’t look f***ing old. The 360 emulator cleans up the older games and makes them look not as last gen. The PS3 just plays them like you’re playing em on a PS2, maybe slightly cleaner, but not much else. It’s the same stuff that happened with PS2 BC with PS1. Dreamcast software emulation was better than the PS2 backwards compatibility. So as for me, and this is my own preference, I would rather have software emulation used for backwards compatibility. I can wait on a few games, especially if I have plenty of new games to play…oh…that’s why the PS3 owners are mad.

The reason the legacy chips are present in the PS3 is that Sony believed it wouldn’t have adequate software emulation working by the release date. The legacy chips are supposedly only temporary, to be dropped in a later revision when Sony switches to straight software emulation.
And for the record, remember that later revisions of the PS2 itself fail to properly play a few PS2 games. (Issues range from minor glitches to gamebreaking problems.)

maybe by the time the new T5:DR stick and Virtua Stick VF5 come out ( around the same time their respectively related games are released iirc ) the problems’ll be ironed out?

HSF2 played kinda fast for me, especially in DeeJay’s stage. I noticed lag in 3s but can’t be too sure since i’m was using controller.
I can parry things in CvS2 normally (controller).

There is lag, it’s about 50-60ms (3 frames). It only happens on games that don’t support Progressive Scan, but most fighting games don’t support it.

200 games is a lot of games - but so is 8000 games.

how did you get such a specific figure?

You can easily measure it with Guitar Hero II in the Video settings. It has a lag calibration test that gives results in milliseconds. You can also enable/disable Progressive scan easily within the game so that you can see the difference (normal with Prog scan enabled, lag when disabled, but PS3 is outputting 480p either way).

Are you kidding me?
Play a game on mame or zsnes, play one on a console.
If it’s SSF2(T), just try pressing the jab button.
You’ll notice the fucking difference. It’s more than a split second. You’ll notice it. Any pro playing any fighting game cannot handle that beat up split second delay shit.
It’s awful.
Even trying to play online with it. It’s TWICE THE DELAY!!
ps3 software updates are expected soon.
as for the PSX-to-USB adaptor from radio shack works great for me,but for online play using a stick,it’s laggy,(I don’t know if it’s because I’m using a Japanese Sanwa Stick)but as soon as I change to pad,I think I just get the usual lag problems you get when you play an online game.
edit:the only problem I got with the stick is that I can’t do qcf, sometimes I can’t do fireballs or supers because of the danm Japanese Stick so that must be it, don’t blame the adaptor, maybe you got a problem with your computer.
this is the adaptor I use

Actually, Sony hasn’t announced any kind of PS3 update to address the graphical glitches and lag that occur during backwards compatibility. Infact, they haven’t even acknolwedged the problem. Firmware updates that address these issues might come eventually, but they’re not expected any time soon.
