How to use the TE stick?!

I guess the way I TKCS can kind of be described as :d::db: :uf:+:k: - hit down, ride gate to down-back corner, and push it straight to the opposite corner. It’s not exactly that, since I can feel the back microswitch triggering as I go to u/f, but I’m definitely riding the gate way more than if I was doing a quarter circle for a Spiral Arrow or something.

tru…i used to be just like u, it effected my game for a majority of the time

we americans are use to happ bat sticks where its tight and you can ride the gate because the gates non - existant…so you actually end up using your arm for movements. Now since th TE sticks dropped i prepared by going sanwa on a hrap3 shit was too tight…I went octagon gate…

after using that awhile i went back to square…my gameplay was much faster it seemed. So i just stopped there and learned to adjust, since i liked the new found speed.

 cant believe you just said that!! :wtf:

anyways i will be getting the adjustable one… i can always go back to square gate…

i use TE stick on Xbox… i like it more than HRAP3 (lets see how i feel about it after the complete modding process  )

Does anyone else have problems going from 4 to 9 on this stick? 80% of the time I get 7. Stupid frustrating.

I was once an advocate for the octogate, but after trying square gate for a while, I have to say square gate is the way to go due to its “speed” as many have already mentioned. When Sanwa came out with their octogate, they widen the gate too much. They should have made the octogate with a smaller opening, then it would be perfect, but the current version is too slow compared to the square gate.

I modded many joysticks including dual PCB, Cthuluh, Imp, Hori sticks, HRAP, TEs, SEs, X-arcade, etc… so I got to try out many different configurations and options, I have to say the TE with Sanwa stick and square gate is as good as you gonna get.

If you guys need stick modding advice, feel free to PM me.

It is true I am bit slower on the octo compared to the square gate, for exactly the reasons named, maybe sometime I will try to adjust again but…6 months trying to adjust to the square and not much progress is most of the reason I am using an octo now.

Yeah, it’s going to be because, I’m guessing, you are not allowing the joystick to do most of the work. I’m guessing you’re actually holding the joystick and moving it from Back to Forward Flip. Your hand will not be accurate enough, but the spring in the joystick WILL be.

So leave the stick in neutral. Now tap Forward Flip quickly. If you tap it, how do you do it? Most likely, you’ll be using your palm to nudge the stick to Forward Flip really quickly. So while you are holding Back, do the same. Hold Back, and when you wanna Jump, instead of keeping your whole fist gripped around the joystick, LET GO of the stick and tap Forward Flip with your palm, just like you would if you started it at Neutral. The spring in the joystick will be much better at keeping it from hitting Back Flip.

Try that out and see if it works for you. Again, a lot of learning to use a joystick involves constantly changing your grip and such. Since many of us old-schoolers have been using joysticks since the 80’s, it’s all natural to us, and we didn’t even “try” to learn this stuff. But now, for the new school players, it’s a completely different ball game.

I grew up using American bat sticks with circular “gate” (American sticks are gateless) and Happ buttons, so when I got my Hori/HRAP/TE sticks with Sanwa sticks and buttons, I actually had to re-learn how to use the Japanese square gates and super sensitive buttons (compared to Happ buttons). Of course having played with a joystick before gave me a head start compare to the younger crowd(me old, over 35 ) but it was still a learning process and hours of training mode time was spent on them to get use to them.

As James stated many times before, you just need to practice and practice and invest time and effort for it.

Wow, really? You’re the first person who called themselves “old” who actually wasn’t older than me. Most of the time I tell people how old I am, they usually respond with “WOW, you’re older than VALLE?!?” When the hell did Valle become the marker for “old”? I still remember when he was just the new kid on the block!

But yeah, no worries: I’m right behind you there, Faux. I’m younger, but not by much!!

That’s just practice. If you hit :r: instead of :df: you can ride the gate downward and slide the stick into the corner. I’m a Chun-Li player and I have that problem sometimes when I try to ultra something in the heat of the moment, like random FA stance while I’m sitting on charge. I hit :df: instead of :r: and I get EX Hasan Shu instead of Hosenka :frowning: Part of it is also that I dont have a real solid surface to play on (I play on PC at the moment) so I’m forced to use my lap. But really, that problem goes away with practice.

Just got a TE stick yesterday. It’s so different and strange to adept to it. One thing that’s awesome tho is that you can do the TKCS with SO MUCH more ease on a stick. Just wonderfull

yeah i tried to play pad but man those trikes are almost impossible (for me)… i can not play with pad…

learning curve can be tough (frustrating for some)… but really worth it… before you know it, you will notice a huge improvement in your execution… just keep striking !

Thnx for the motivation.

2 things i could never do with the pad are:

  • TKCS ( i’d get 1 out of 15 tries >.<)
  • Cannon spike FADC back into ultra. This one is still pretty hard for me. No matter how hard i tried on the pad it was always a little too late and the opponent would reach the ground first. i haven’t practiced it yet on the stick,
but i don’t have a good feeling. Dashing doesn’t go that smooth on a stick for me for me.

Anyone have some tips on how to do this ultra setup. ( do u use trubo? etc)

It’s just really fast. It helps if you do…

:l::hcf::qcf:

…for the FA dash and Ultra motion.

how do u do c. lk>c.lp>c.lk>H. SA on a stick?
pad > stick transitioning…

my button layout:

top row: lp,mp,hp
bottom row: lk,mk,hk

there is no trick to it… from p1 side usually i keep holding :db: or :d: then:

:lk: (index finger press) :lp:(index finger press) :lk: (index finger press) :db::qcf:+:hk: (ring finger press)

remember you dont need to rush it… take your time with lp to lk link…

thanks , I usually dont post much on this forums but I read some of the posts you guys put on here… I can always do it on my xbox controller but stick uhh…its throwing me off.

I think I need to change my motion for doing FADC Ultra, I want to get it down 99.9% of the time.

im sooooo happy with the new parts i bought for my HRAP3 stick… the new buttons are billion light years better than the originals…

tried the octagonal gate, i just couldn’t adjust to it… i changed it back to square gate…

i printed 3 new arts… ( i like 1 of them, the other two turned out to be … meh… OK i guess)… im now waiting for the plexy glass to arrive

im gonna post a pic of the new art once i finish placing it
