Talk with your opponent! Making sure that he’s a friend rather than an enemy will definitely aid you in calming yourself down during the game. Remember to use proper eye contact for an increased level of personal connection. If you can take turns placing a reassuring hand on the other’s shoulder between rounds, that can really help to take the edge off of your nerves too. Your opponent will probably appreciate this as well if he’s feeling a little shaky, so don’t be afraid to ask. With the right mindset, a heated tournament match can become a very intimate moment.
Play other people more. And play to improve, not just to win. The more you play the more comfortable you’ll be while playing.
Everyone is ass but me.
Meditate.
I have the same problem, but only when I play online. People just get away with stupid stuff because of bad connections, it’s infuriating.
Woooooooooooooooo sahhhhh
Woooooooooooooooo sahhhhh
I think people freaking out boils down to an imcomplete knowledge of things. When you’re in a situo that you don’t know whats going on and your life bar’s ticking down people just bust ouf the most random shit. Its a mental fortitude thing, just try to focus on where you are, and what you’re trying to do. Practice makes perfect and like most things in life don’t take it TOO seriously otherwise you’ll just paralyze yourself.
Protip: Online doesn’t count for shit, just have a ball with it.
What I’ve been told. Take every match you play seriously like its a tournament. This does work a bit but the best thing I’ve heard was. Do other more scary things than gaming. Something like bungee jump or something. Then when you sit down to play and you’re scared you can be like “What the fuck, I’m scared to play video games but I fucking bungee jumped last week, video games ain’t shit compared to that” So those are the two things I’ve been told
You’re gonna be better than the other guy anyways because he’s shit.
Just go into every match with “I’m the world champ” and then you will be, just like Jiyuna.
And if you notice people being nervous try and take advantage of that so you can force them to make mistakes and throw them off their game. Just pull a face/heel turn and win forever.
shoutouts to wrldchmp
Maybe learn to box? After you get punched in the face all the time video games seem a lot more mellow
Play naked. That way he will be the more nervous one.
Just remember that he’s mortal.
And mortals are soYOU ARE NOTHING TO ME
(I’m not even joking, this is the thought process I go through. Calms me every time)
Well as I’ve said, I do participate in local tournies when I’m actively into fighting games. I don’t go particularly crazy or anything. It’s about the same as when I play at the arcade or online.
I got that covered. I whitewater kayak, although it’s mostly the off-season right now. I don’t think it’s about being scared. I mean, I’m really familiar with being afraid for my life, and it’s simply not like that when I play video games.
Not saying fear isn’t a factor, I’m not a physiologist, but whatever the case may be, I just know I’m simply not relaxed, my heart rate is way up, I’m sweating, etc. It’s not quite as intense as the last couple times I dropped into Gore Rapid, (my heart feels like it’ll burst through my rib-cage) but that’s neither here, nor there.
Now, if I could do that the same day I play fighting games, it might help, but that’s just not an option at all. A good kayak run takes all day.
But there might be something to having more routine body fatigue.
shrug
There’s no doubt that just learning to perform under intense pressure (even if it’s self-imposed) will help, and it may be the only option. I am not the greatest fighting gamer, not by a longshot, and I don’t aspire to be. I’d rather just chillax than try to be some star athlete with gaming.
Maybe aspiring to stay calm is the wrong thing to do, but honestly, that’s the way I want to game.
I’m surprised no one mentioned masturbation.
i had the same issues before. eventually went away when i just kept playing in the arcades with friends… and the strangers who defeat me just eventually became my acquaintances. just let loose , even allow defeat from time to time for the sake of having fun.
It’s like public speaking. Only way to get rid of the jitters is keep doing it
Bad idea, you’ll be worrying about people thinking you smell like jizz all day and wondering if you cleaned it all up. It’s like murder in a way.
That or taking shots before. Works in both situations for me
I think this is an ego problem more than anything. Not say to you have an big ego, but it seems you’re very afraid of losing in casual matches which is pretty pointless. Casual matches are practice, just like training mode. You don’t get nervous studying for a test do you?
Talk to people beforehand.
