Rcing is not a problem. I can rc just about everything in the game. Still learning hondas rc 360, but other than that (rc funky, rcsonicboom, rc elec ect) its no problem
I think CVS2 is just 60% execution, 40% mindgames/strategy
At FR8 I played shitty…not because I can’t do the moves or anything, but just because I was playing stupid. Just don’t worry about stuff so much…you sound like you’re driving yourself crazy over this…and you shouldn’t be. And I guess if you really wanna get good and you kind of only have 1 guy to play…then…good luck getting REALLY good…
if you want to get good you just have to keep IM’ing all the top players all day
even when they have an away message up that says i won’t be here til saturday and today is Monday, still send them an IM anyway like
“hey you there??”
“dude, you there??”
“does N kim beat A chang???”
“Dude, are you ignoring me??”
If you do this 2x a day everyday I guarantee you will get better at CVS2
start by IM’ing Josh Wong - what I did and now i’m semi-pro (thinking about dropping out of college and quitting my job to go pro, but not right now maybe come summer time)
and don’t worry about no comp
popoblo is proof positive you can become the best in the US without any comp
you just have to use eagle
I think a lot of my problem is, i dont really know setups for my characters. This isnt really gone into in the specific forums. I think people learn these more from experience, of which i dont have much. For example ive never even heard of anyone talk about CH setups for sagat, but Im sure they exist.
Another form of setups im lacking, jumpin setups. Wtf is a jump in setup? Can anyone give me specific situation setups for jumpins with blanka or sagat or guile?
I think another problem im having is learning how to effectivly use rc’s. Lets take guile for example. I can rc jab and fierce boom. But its pretty useless bc i dont really know how to use it to my advantage. Kinda stupid to rc a jab boom when i throw it from 3/4 or full screen isnt it? Is anti air the only real use for them?
Thanks sigley, ill get started on this right away.
lol @ rsigley
Jokes…haha, “all you have to do is use eagle” haha priceless
A jump in setup is a way of jumping in safely either by a whiff or by a lack of stopping you from jumping in.
For example…
*Sagat vs. Sakura
If you do far jump in RH with Sagat the hits will trade in your favor, so you keep doing it.
*Bison vs. Blanka…
Blanka tries to jump in from any distance he always gets beat out of the air by Bison. Therefore you don’t want to jump-in.
*Vega vs. Shoto…
Jump over the fireball because Vega is faster than Ryu’s recovery from the fireball.
You understand?
You RC projectiles to beat attacks that out range you.
*Shoto vs. Cammy…
RC fireball through her pokes.
There’s no real point to RC projectiles with Guile considering his normal AA’s are pretty solid the way they are.
To Ratio1Beatdown:
Thats a nice av.
I was under the impression that a jumpin setup, was a jumpin made safe(or close to it) by doing a set of things prior. Example : Crouching jab x2 with ken sets up enough frame advantage so that after 2 jabs you can attempt a crossover if blocked.
All ive heard for a year now about guile is that its vital to be able to rc boom. Now your telling me, that there really is no point to rc with guile at all?
What about blanka? Besides electricity and short ball to go through projectiles but not get close enough to be retailated against, any other useful rc’s with him?
Dont take me the wrong way nick, im not questioning your advice. Its just ive heard for so long rc rc rc rc about guile, and now someone says its no good or not useful.
You could use this as an alternative to a throw or counter hit jab.
I never said there was no point to RC with him. I said to RC through attacks that outrange u. For AAing its pointless because Guile has AA’s for any situation.
Anyone? Should i be looking for dp like opprotunities to use rc fierce ball? Or is it better to just leave that alone?
Sup Nick. Pulling the glory lin and becoming a Guile fan now? :bgrin:
I personally like fierce balls to go through fireballs. But all you need is electricity because of the damage you can do after you land it(A groove w/full meter), and the damage tradeoff you get(chip damage or alot of damage off a trade).
Easiest example I can give you to understand
A Blanka vs. K Hibiki…
Do RC Electricity all day until she gets meter.
Reason why is because the best thing she can is counter grab into jump fierce. You’re building meter and doing block damage.
The risk is alot better in this situation because qcf, hcf+p super does about 5500 damage. With your electricity into CC its a trade in your favor. You shouldn’t cr. fierce Hibiki too often because it can be JD after a slash and she can hit u after she JD’s it.
In that situation she gets meter faster, and you risk something big by not doing much damage. Just stick to electricity.
It can be like that in any matchup. Just base damage tradeoff based on RC electricity mainly.
Same exact thing with Vega.
RC electricity on him because with your damage output + CC, its alot more in your favor than Vega’s 2 or 3 hit short short jab combo.
KCXJ:
Nah not really. I’ve been messing around with everyone for so long now. Thats why I use so many teams when I play at CF or whenever. I use almost anyone. So I learned most things as I went along.
I was thinking more like rc fierce ball for these uses : Go through fireballs, AA against non-C grooves ect ect. Im asking in general is is worth it, or is it a better gameplan to try and stay simple and safe? Im using C blanka btw. Oh and i only use the short rc ball to go through fb’s and the like without having to engage the enemy.
Also, as long as the opponent doesnt have a level 3 handy, should i pretty much always dash—>Rc elec when i knock them down?
There is just a shortage of good threads these days with REAL strategy in them. So if im bugging you dont worry about it, just wanna get something going.
If you know you can RC 100%, then by all means AA with Blanka Ball. But for the most part, it’s better and easier to stay safe and do a simple AA.
Not all the time, you need to mix it up.
First off you could do hop > RC electricity.
Then if they block, you knockdown again then do electricity or throw.
If they attack, then you do hop in > hop out to bait a DP or whatever. Then go from there
It’s okay, no problem. Good knowledge of the game is hard to get from most people because they don’t have it.
For the best example of this, go to the A3 Q and A thread in the “other games” forum. If you look at the dates of the posts the thread starts at 2002 and ends at 2005. If you compare the quality of the questions in terms of how technical they are in terms of what they have to do with the game, you’ll see that the 2002 questions and posts are alot better than the 2005 posts.
2002:
“What are good ways to set up a jump in on a V-Akuma from half screen?”
2005:
“How do I get in on Zangief, thanks”
lol
Im still having trouble against people i should be dispatching with ease. I have a greater skill level, no doubt about that. But my game is predictable. After knockdowns with blanka i usually only get elec chip. What are some mixups i can do with blanka after a punch throw or after a sweep?
Also sagat, Say i land a fierce dp. Then what? I usually either roll twice to crossup, or tiger knee and walk up crouching shorts. What are some mixups i can do with sagat after a fierce dp or sweep?
Sagat: whiff crouching short, throw
Blanka: small jump up, and either fierce on the way down and combo, or land and throw.
Hazzah, there is your mixup game.
im playing in c groove
So no 50/50’s for either of these chars, besides whiff short throw?
