Tiger Knee frame traps and if a Sagat player has 2 bars, he’ll try to blow up a crouch tech with an uppercut.
do some endless battle action!
I don’t really like the whole “learn to block” method of playing defense. Like, what’s there to learn? Seriously?Sounds like a wacky theory to me Blocking is just educated guessing and isn’t a skill;some days you’ll be lucky and other days you won’t be. There’s no deep, brilliant science to this sort of thing. People over analyze these games.
My best advice would be to avoid situations where you have to block. It’s better to avoid defensive situations than “learn how to block” lol. There’s an old saying in sports that I like-the best defense is a good offense. That theory works in fighting games too.
For example, if you walk forward, and your opponent jumps forward, you’ll go underneath their jump and won’t have to block their attacks. Often times, you’ll be able to attack them when they’re landing.
Or if you jump forward, while your opponent was walking forward trying to throw you, their throw will whiff and you’ll usually be able to land safely on the other side.
If you’re attacking them, they won’t be able to attack you:karate::karate:
Some very bad advice in this post.
Why do you say that? What part of my post do you disagree with? Same questions go to all the other previous posters as well. holler at me!!!
Yeah, my advice is to ignore pretty much all of this. Man, what a post.
Ok so I dont know if this is a troll post or not but im going to take a chance and give the troll a snack. Your whole logic for playing a match is to avoid rather than defend which is totally wrong. you say jump if someone is walking foward to grab you, idk what game your playing where someone would let you just jump away for free 9 out of 10 times your going to get punished and the most basic rule in a match is to keep jumping too a minimum because in certain matches its dangerous. you want someone to walk underneath the person when they jump foward im pretty sure you will get hit with a crossup if you was to apply this in a match. these are bad examples so please don’t try to state anymore examples if you cant provide sufficient blocking tips. BLOCKING IS VERY IMPORTANT! As easy as it is to say its kinda hard to apply this in a match. you can block better if you gain patience and remain calm. patience is when you are getting hit with a block string and you sit there and calmly block until you have a opening to get a hit in. if you dont stay calm your going to just do something random to get them off of you and experience players will try to bait that to score damage in. so basically just learn the matchups for the character you use, learn what move beats what move and remain calm in the match if any pressure is being applied such as a blockstring so youll have a clear head while thinking.
Paragraphs are almost as important as a good defense.
Blocking and defense in general are both definitely skills. your advice doesn’t work against experienced players.
If that paragraph comment was directed towards me, he asked how to block efficiently not how to format my help. gj though you succeeded teacher.
Part of effectively giving advice is being able to effectively communicate. You’re quite welcome to use your writing as a way to throw off the oppressive shackles of societal norms and standards, just don’t expect people to actually read much of it.
I’m surprised you were so confused by my post. You really think a character walking underneath a jump is always hit by a cross up? Check out this video That’s what I was talking about. IMO that’s a pretty basic tactic/concept that lots of people use.
Perhaps, but suggesting that someone forgo developing their defense for things that are situationally useful is not good advice at all.
Kohai, I also live in the netherlands so we could train together with one playing offense and the other more defensive. And switching sides per 1 or 2 matches. I am also a offensive player and need to work on my defense. Sadly my mic died a few days ago but you can add me on XBL Writing in english since its an english forum.
This is 3s not 4, it was much more viable there [along with dashing] as opposed to 4 with huger chars and hitboxes. Just try and walk under rogs j. fierce. Enjoy the combo while you wait. While truthfully some chars CAN still walk [more usually dash] under jumpins, makoto comes to mind; its still not the greatest of tactics.
Also while you’re attacking they can’t hit you? wut? I would like to see this unbustable offense so filled with vigor and heart that they cannot ever push you back out. By say. Blocking. Or maybe a shoryu. Or BD. Or Defense. Perhaps you can walk under all those? Maybe I’ve been doing this all wrong
Sorry to dig the old topic but I got a similar problem too
I usually feel fear when the opponent rushdown me continuously by using safe poking. After that all I can do is try spamming a reversal to help it hit to break out of the pressure. How can I improve my bad defensive skill and get the stronger mind in defend ?
As said before you have to find a way to put space in between yourself and the opponent. Obviously this is more difficult if you are in the corner, and requires more strategy. But for mid-screen, try focus backdashing, just straight up backdashing, or jumping back. This will then allow you to try to counter your opponents advances with your own pokes. It’s also easier to give advice when you give specific characters being used, i.e who you are using and who is rushing you down.
