Just ignore the negativity man. People are either super happy, or life sucks. Polar opposites at all times, so don’t sweat it.
Don’t be frightened off, just be chill and introduce yourself. You’ll make acquaintances, friends, and even sometimes room mates in some circumstances in the scene.
Like Mackinzie asked though, do you mean like on the peninsula or Western WA as in WWU? That’d be a good start to identify with others who might be in your area.
BTW: Everyone really is friends, there are the timely rivalries/periods that create animosity from time to time, but it always turns up in the end.
