The problem is you answer one stupid question and people think they can keep asking more stupid questions. I tried that once and realized that people just don’t stop once you show them it is ok. Then later on they get mad at you for not answering it.
Come on how hard is it to select the damn button at the menu screen? This was laziness at its finest. I never called him anything prior to him calling me an asshole for telling him he should be able to figure it out on his own. Even after that I don’t think I ever called him anything besides rude.
Also you didn’t exactly do anything smart by bumping a thread that was already sinking to the bottom.
The difference between a good forum and a bad forum is that in a good forum people actually try to write stuff that other people would want to read. A forum isn’t a goddamn chat room or a tech support line or your buddy on the phone.
The Elitist Jerks were just a forum for a group of friends who posted about WoW, yet you’ve heard of them, and when I played WoW for a little bit years ago they were one of the most informative forums about the game. You’ve heard of them too, and apparently years after I stopped playing they’re still going. And they’re just some stupid guild forum. Why do you think that is? It’s because they policed the forum and made sure it wasn’t filled with stupid dogshit no one wants to read.
And the cost is what exactly? No more “whats your favorite color Ken???” threads? People jump on stupid threads because they don’t want to fucking read them, and a thread that no one wants to fucking read is a useless thread, and people that make threads that no one wants to fucking read shouldn’t be treated like 6 year olds but should told that no one wants to fucking read their threads so they’ll stop making them. It’s not rocket science. If you don’t want people to jump down your throat, stop writing bullshit. Put a filter between “think of something” and “post it to the internet”.
