so far it would just ban the whole gem thing
Gem is for casual play, mainly for the PSP and goofing around.
That was… fast.
@Maxwell , you mean the Vita~
and i have no problem with Gems atm as it seems they all have requirements to be activated…maybe we are looking at it in a negative light…
Just like that, a layer of depth has been stripped from the game, just because we don’t like the sound of it.
And you guys make fun of the Smash Bros community.
I know it’s for the vita lol, and yes everyone is thinking they are all amazing passive abilities or something.
I personally feel if ANY should be banned, it should only be ones that are DLC/not auto-unlocked, simply because it would be terrible attending a tournament and them not having your gems.
Unless there’s an option to completely turn them off online, I think they should be left in for tournament play. I know online play isn’t the best excuse, but sometimes there’s just nothing going in in person in your scene at the time, or maybe you live in the middle of nowhere and don’t have a scene, but still want to get some practice in.
Finally, I think it’s too soon to tell. The gem system is something outlandish, so people of course have a bad reaction to it, but I personally think we need to dig in for a while before making any big decision. It’s not the 1st time a game has had character customization. Even SF4/Marvel, SF4 you can pick your Ultra, and Marvel you can pick assists. While this is a bit more in depth than those, it’s still customization on both ends.
I would be find if it were just a regular system in the game, but this DLC gem shit is too much.
I really hate that this game has Ibuki in it. Means I’ll have to play it. LOL.
i just love how everyone is jumping to conclusions…its amazing…they just announced the damn system and everyone gets their panties in a bunch…w/e…its a comeback mechanic…(everyone goes fucking nuts)…yeah we back at that again…
im sure there will be a BARE Minimum of gem’s when the game first boots up…we’ll use those…wtf…
if none are available at the start of the game then guess what people~ NO GOD DAMN GEMS TO BE USED!
either way…it does no matter to me at all~ its really…whatever…
I’d like to wait and see. It’s possible that the game could be balanced around gems. It won’t take long to find out. Some characters may not be viable without gems, which would be a sad thing. But if we ban gems and this turns out to be the case, we may have a game with only a few characters that can compete without gems.
I think they need to be banned, especially any DLC ones. The first issue being the fact that it’s gonna take time to set up gems for your characters. You’ve got 12-20 gems total to set up for a match so of course it’s gonna take time to find the right ones and overall it could greatly slow down the tourney.
Another issue I could see is that one might not be able to tell what gems the opponent has unless they see their opponent pick them. For example, let’s say your opponent uses pandora; generally you’d be able to pandora after them and they would die first. But what if there’s a gem that extends pandora time and your opponent has it? There’s a good chance that you wouldn’t know that because all you’d see is a purple gem and not know what it does.
I understand that part of being a fighting game player, you need to be able to adjust on the fly but it just seems like it could just get a little ridiculous.
You know the DLC gems are most likely alternate outfits and cosmetic changes right?
Good point. I also wonder if gems might need to be blind selected because one gem combo might counter another… there’s not enough information right now though to say.
I was thinking about so many responses that I could against this, and then i realized, holy crap Capcom might actually do something like this. Sell Gem packs, and 1 of the gems in each pack would be a costume. Ultimate money grubbing and people would fall for it so easily.
Are we sure there are DLC gems? The wording on the press release sounds ambiguous to me. It can be that the 9 gems are exclusive as in they won’t be available in any of the retailers packs, or that it won’t be available in the base game. On top of that, we don’t even know if those pre order gems are early unlocks.
If there are DLC gems, or if you have to beat the game with all characters to unlock them all, they’ll be banned according to the organizers will. I’m sure the serious tournaments will put time to unlock or buy everything.
Chill out people, wait for more info. =)
I still feel as though it should’ve been a “wait-and-see” instead of banning them before the game even comes out. That’s the truly ridiculous part.
No, no, they would sell costumes separately to milk that as well. Which is fair, I’m not bothered by cosmetic DLC. I actually think it’s pretty cool.
Ah i love how so many people cant handle the winds of change.
