How necessary are college degrees?

Per my opinion, college degrees do not matter. Master ones as well. Your experience and skills are worth much more - according to my experience.

From what I understand, you don’t need a college degree, but you will make alot more money faster with one.

I talked to a supervisor at my job, asked him how he got the job. Basically, he was at a temp agency for a little more than a year making 7.40 an hour, applied for a line leader, worked that job for 5 years, then applied for supervisor a couple times, finally got the job, and now its about 8 years later and he is making good money. He is like 33, making $25 an hour, 12 hours a day for 4 days a week for walking around and make sure we are doing our job right… do the math. They make more than teachers below college level and he didn’t even fuck with with school at all. Took him a long while and he struggled hard, but he is making some solid money.

However, the good thing about college is that with a bachelors, you can make $40k a year easily. 4 years to make that much money? Fucking sick. But even so, its hard to land a job without a more advanced degree. My mom got her bachelors in education, applied for jobs, and they didn’t want her because her competitors had masters. She went back, got her masters, and got a job instantly. An extra 2-3 years tacked on but still she got a good job within a week.

Anyway, thats just what I understand.

If I had my druthers, this would be in the next edition of the OED.

Yea experience is probably more important than degrees in most situations.
I went to an automotive tech school and graduated no job offers though because of
experience. Yet Joe blow who worked in a shop gets the job. But I understand hiring someone who has been through it over someone who read and went to
a 1 year school for profit. Any suggestions?
