How Long Do You Think Fighting Games Will Last?

Its considered dead in my area, and I’m hardcore. How did this happen I asked myself all the time. Why am I playing Spades with stupid ass peeps that think this shit requires skill. Because peeps let it die. Why,because they lose! GGXX took over my arcade with a mixture of me and another guy beating everyone at 3s and CVS2. To the point where outside the arcade peeps just wanna play everything but StreetFighter. Roy Jones Fight Night,Tetris Attack,Tekken 4,DOA3,and now Star Ocean3 if u go look at the Ne thread. Its contents consist of RPG talk.

So…its not a question of is it gonna die because in some places it has already begun. Its what are u gonna do when it happens. I have chosen to go to school to get a trade so I can have enough money to travel to wherever StreetFighter is being played constantly.

I just hope everyone hasn’t stopped playing by time I get my shit together.

i’m just glad i bought CVS2 for my xbox. at least IF the 2d fighting genre ever dies i’ll still have a copy of the game…besides, wut skill is there to playing 3d shooters like halo? even my 8-year-old cousin can play the game almost without any help from me after i told him the controls of the game trouble. fighting games are too much of a “skill-level” type of game for it to die out IMO

FIRST: Arcades in America are dead. Arcades were hardly ever cool, just a fad that couldn’t last in this kind of society. It is also a testament to the continual cowardice of most Americans who prefer online, faceless battles as opposed to the face to face kind.

SECOND: 2D GAMES are no longer big news on anyone’s radar. In the reality of things, they’ve been dead in America for a while now. It’s all about poly counts, frame rates, bump mapping, and pixel shaders.

THIRD: Because 2D games are pretty much dead, 2D fighters have gone with them.

There was an interesting article over how parents are spoiling their children too much. Over how this is an age of excess, where everyone wants everything right now, not wanting to take the time and effort needed to get it. Anything that takes work isn’t going to be popular, that’s the state of our society right now. Popular culture, and culture in general, is a reflection of our trends. We live in an age of excess, and for those of you who know your history, it’s only a matter before the bubble breaks.

I watched the arcade situation go downhill in San Francisco/Bay Area over 10 years. Billiards Arcade (N. Beach) vs. Metreon-

2-D animated feature films have been halted at most studios.
Many people believe the same should be happening games (arcade, 2-D)

Educate those that don’t understand what we know. Pray for leadership with sound hearts and minds.

Yeah, but that’s not really a bad thing. Introducing Gouraud shading by itself doesn’t mean the gameplay sucks.

Well, yeah, naturally. But not only from the teenager/player point of view, but from the production company point of view also. They want everybody to buy their new game on the day of release, and then forget all about it soon after so that they can buy the next equally-expensive game a few months later. The customers are at fault for falling for it time after time, and the companies are at fault for always chasing that extra 10% in revenue at the cost of lifespan/quality.

I have to concur with most of the responses in this thread, 2D fighters are hanging by a thread right now or are already dead in most cities. It’s just the fact that lazy ass americans don’t want to learn how to play a real fighting game wimp out and play a button mashing 3D fighters like tekken or soul calibur (IBfanboys).

Wut??..

They will last as long as there’s emulation.

LOL @hecatom and @Louiscipher, necro’ing a 9-year old thread.

This thread’s a nice little time capsule.

Fuck, I didn’t even realize it was 9 years old…

I mean, I quoted the shit in the ScrubQuotes thread, but I mentioned it was 9 years ago. SMH

WTF man you really bumped a thread from 9 years ago to say “wut” about one of the comments?!

In my defense Mixah quoted it on the scrubquotes thread, i was just on autopilot mode replying to stupid shit, so i missed the part where he mentioned it was a 9 years old thread

sorry :frowning:

Here I was about to snicker at the capcom comment until I realized the thread was nearly a decade old.
