I am notorious for not responding to e-mails, phone calls or texts. I actually have my notifications off on my phone so I check it when I can get to it, and e-mail is by far the most likely way to get a response from me. Ironically most people hate e-mails, probably because they don’t like having to actually write everything out and taking care of things at once. I also frequently ignore my phone at home, if I’m in front of my computer an IM/gchat message is probably the easiest way to get a hold of me.
I find this makes my life fairly stress free. I prefer working for myself but right now I’m working for a firm and they have to deal with this same thing from me. About the only thing I do is e-mail when I’ll be out or late, otherwise I ONLY check work e-mails when I am at work. I sent those late/out e-mails from my personal e-mail address because I refuse to log in to my work e-mail when I’m at home. The funny thing is when there is an “urgent” e-mail and I get to it a week or two later. Usually from not hearing from me they get someone else to do it.
Now as to the op’s question, I do agree on porn. I have a healthy porn stash myself, it’s what all red blooded males will have. Heterosexuals of course have our hetero porn, but the places I get porn from I’ve seen have the homosexual sections too, and I bet it’s the same for them. Heck I’ve known women that get it too, but that’s rarer or they just don’t admit it.
But the other two huge areas are the information access you have and the social ease of communicating with people. Back in the day it was hard to gather information and then get real time updates. Currently most of us check everything online that we need, heck we can talk to our phones and they’ll do google searches (which is why I don’t get why people aren’t all on android). I have found a wealth of health information online as well as hobbies. Most of us build our own computers and troubleshoot them online. For health I’ve found so many natural things to use that keep me really healthy that I would never have known about. Then you have online ordering of everything including the health and tech stuff. Apple cider vinegar, silver colloidal, tea tree oil and so many other things we can use now that few would have known about. There are Trader Joe’s and other places where you can even buy a lot of this stuff, even GNC now. Supplements for your joints, etc.
And for the social part, we’re communicating right now on here, but probably you’ve also got some forms of chat software up too, maybe Facebook, Google+ etc.
I mean it’s amazing if you think about it. Remember before you’d have to pick up a phone and call if you were at home, and then hope someone could answer some questions. You’d go to the library and pretty much only have access to the books they already had. You’d maybe need magazines to find the rarer stuff. Then you might have to go all over the city after calling everyone if you lived in a big city to get something. Otherwise maybe you’d have to call up some company out of nowhere and ask them to ship to you. If you were at home all you could really do is maybe play a console game by yourself. You were completely reliant on your doctor for your health concerns and any treatments. If you wanted to pick up a new hobby you’d probably either need to read books and then hope you were lucky, or just randomly learn it yourself, instead of having access to proven knowledge (say lifting weights even, so much info on the internet for that, same with any other thing you want to pick up).
You were completely at the mercy of media and government propaganda, because there were no real ways for regular people to communicate with each other, and certainly not with divergent viewpoints.
