How good is GGPO online play compared to street fighter 4 AE?

release GGPO as a DLC paid for package then. I would gladly spend 10\20$ for a tournament worthy net-code.

sfxt as their first rollback game was WAY too late. Roll back technology existed in the late 90’s, other big companies were already using it. When sf4\mvc3 were being developed, Capcom cut corners because they feel like online isn’t a big part of the game when it is for all other esport type games.

It’s not that simple. For console games, the game has to be built from the ground up to work with a rollback netcode. Without it, the results would be atrocious.

Firstly, 3SOE’s netcode(despite it being GGPO) isn’t very good. GGPO itself on PC runs much better than its console counterparts. Even without lag, delay exists due to everyone being able to set their own frames of delay, and to someone who plays mainly offline like Gootecks, 2+ frames can screw with your timing. Auto-pilot Akumas have the biggest advantage in this scenario because they can literally turn their brain off. This is especially true against Urien because of his height disadvantage that can put Uriens in a constant pressure just by spamming the same move while using lag as a deterrent for red parries.

Fighting games are based around playing with very small number of frames. No matter how good a netcode is online will continue to be a problem for people who mainly play offline.

the youtube comment is shit lol, sorry. It might be a good opinion on the game but its not a good opinion on GGPO.

GGPO is the best option we have and the quicker you guys realize that, the faster we can implement it PROPERLY into modern FGs. What 3soe had to do was implement it into a game that it was never desgined for. Of course its going to come out a little buggy\wacky.

IF online is considered being vital from the initial beginning phases of game, which capcom NEVER considers vital, GGPO will work flawlessly. Look @ skullgirls. That game is AMAZING online, not good not great. Flat out AMAZING. Because from the beginning phases of the game, the developers knew online would be vital so they planned the game around it rather than an add on down the road.

yes, its true you can’t escape lag due to playing on the net. Its there for sf4\umvc3 and its there for GGPO. That doesn’t mean we accept the shit in sf4\umvc3 as a “standard” when GGPO under the right conditions works 100x better by comparison. Of the 2 choices we have for net-play, properly implemented GGPO has 0 substitutes.

DSP is hardly an expert on latency. Everything lags to him. He’s complained about lag in offline games.

actually there is a section in the video where gootecks plays against a laggy Akuma player, who rage quits and is reported.
comment was about that match.
have no idea why they put it there.
