How far your Cap team has gotten?

his c.l is fine - it’s his down air h that’s the amazing normal. for real.

LoL Gimpy loves down air h…is it just me or does caps multi directional H…like ironman’s is just beats other characters standard normals. I dunno but I know at the start throw battles if we miss throw Cap seems to always get the hit. I know I beat Weskers Hs and Ss if I time it right. Omg do 700k on connect wow… damn u guys got some nasty cap combos. I play mainly online i dont even try those combos. Can u guys reliably do that combo each time even in the heat of battle?

If I touch a character that has a million or under I kill them. Id say 95% of the time anyway. If I’ve got hulk left of course to dhc into.

Yea Gimpy I seen your combo vid that’s crazy. After seeing you guys I still wonder why cap is considered weak…he isn’t braindead or easiest execution wise. But for you guys to do 700k to a million. I was thinking that’s why Capcom removed some of his mvc2 options. If they gave him double jump, otg, and invincible cartwheel…thats all you would see is caps all over with wolverine and akumas lol. Maybe just a double jump.

His double jump will never return sadly it was at Marvels request to be removed.

The otg would be nice and an invincible cartwheel would be broken more than people think IMO with the overall lack of invincible optnions for all the characters.

But cap still wouldn’t see that much use - wolverine akuma and the rest are much EASIER to be effective with - not that it’s ever easy to be great at a high level with anyone… but you get me :wink:

Yep, I usually knock out my B&B combos 95% of the time. Majority of the times when I drop it is if I realize that for whatever reason, the opponent will be too high or too low/far away to get the ending on there. I usually just add either an M.stars & stripes, or M.charging star to finish the combo…or just throw another air M.shield slash to try to get another combo started.

Once you learn the rhythm of how Cap works the only combos that seem to pose any issue are the corner relaunch combos. I think that’s really only because we all haven’t been doing them regularly, so in time they’ll be just like any other combo once the timing/properties are learned.

Cap’s air H’s are pretty sweet especially the d.H move since it combos so well. You can even hit the d.H, S…and still throw an L.shield slash that will hit. Depending on the character or height of the jump, you can either go from there into a launch/relaunch combo or a mixup/reset situation.

I do REALLY wish that Cap still had a double jump, but at the least it would be nice if you could either…

  1. Recover from the cartwheel faster
  2. Have varying distances to the cartwheel

Invincibility would be great for the pass through of the cartwheel, but I think it’s unlikely. It’d just be nice if you could use it a bit more safely. Cap is very strong, seems to be able to get a combo off of nearly every random hit, has good range on his normals, but he’s just missing a little touch to make the full package seriously amazing. He also builds very good meter from his combos such that you never ever have to really burn meter for either of his level 1 hypers…ever.

I’m still having a great time learning him, and will have at least 1 team with him for quite a while. :slight_smile:

I’d love to start using his Stars & Stripes move…but I’m petrified to use it yet. The M/H versions seem to have a long enough recovery that you recover after the opponent maybe? (scares the crap outta me) They also knock the opponent very high up, but not very far away at all.

OH, and if he had an OTG that would be amazing.!

Id love it if you could cancel cartwheel with normals or other specials. I’d love it if there were 3 distances of cartwheel. Light could never pass through. Ahhhhh how I’d love that.

I agree, a completely invincible cartwheel would be OP, but I think if they made it faster, or if it had limited invuln frames, it would be a good move. Right now it’s too slow and too easy to knock him out of it, especially by the top tier characters. Wolverine for instance can crouch under Sentinel drones and combo you. And doing it under unibeam cover isn’t really a mixup because they auto correct if you attack too soon. And I DEFINITELY think cap needs OTG shield slash. It would make his non-jumping shield slash actually useful for something because it would give him a way to OTG into his hyper combos. Right now his ways of achieving damage is too limited. If you look at DevilJin’s posts, I agree with the content completely, but it’s retarded that cap is strictly limited to cr. L pressure and his midrange shield slash game, when other characters can get damage of pretty much a random attack.

Omg Kei you gotta do stars and stripes. Well I was like you scared to do it. Now I’m doing it alot. It blows up alot of rushdown making the other person scared to aerial rush him. Like Spencers grapple to try to get behind someone…stars bam. All of Zeros air dives bam. I remember one time I accidentally stopped the wolverine and akuma tatsuslash combo. It really is a neutralizer.

Finally made it to 2nd Lord! Fun getting there…now Weskers n Dantes are alot easier. Once I changed my playstyle with Cap. :slight_smile:

He stopped trying to cartwheel and constantly throwing shields and trying to gimmick and started using captains normals and priority and playing solid.

Like every captain should. Lol.

I’m cheesin so hard right now. I was told tonight that my Cap is “awesome” by a guy I was fighting online. It was so much better because he was actually quite GOOD which makes it so much more legit. We had a quick first to 3…well it was going to be just a single match at first before I joined a new friends game…but the guy beat me pretty well the first game so I had to see if his mixups were legit or online garbage play from me.

Nope he was legit in his mixups for sure because the second fight was almost the same, so it was repeatable. He got the first two (first very convincingly, 2nd just eeked it out), then I got the 3rd game very convincingly…until for whatever reason I made 1 mistake and almost choked the whole thing back to him. I had all three characters, and had two full life, and just shy with the other…then Dorm came in with xf3…and I made some super ridiculously dumb decisions instead of just killing the guy who had maybe 20% life. It was close enough I was very very very mad at myself even though I won…with 20% life left on my last guy. :frowning:

He was running a solid team of Zero/Wesker/Dorm, and I had my usual (new smarter order now -->) Cap/Wesker/Iron Man team. He gave me some great matchup practice against Zero which I desperately need, and he did very well with his other two characters as well, but I’m far less scared of them since I have a lot more experience with Wesker, and I seem to do pretty well against Dorm when I have my head on right.

Anyway I made yet another online sparring partner so we can help each other level up. It was awesome to see someone online using legit mixups, and a smart team. My Iron Man is getting better too it seems since I’m being FAR more patient with him now which seems to work a lot better. I almost had him 2 of 2 games, but Iron Man got beat out on the last hit of one, after dealing with two characters by himself.

I ALMOST have my new B&B #2 combo 100% down online (I can do it in my sleep offline), but the aireal portion seems to drop if you’re not careful online in a lil lag. The normal non OTG version though I’ve got down which made me very happy, I didn’t drop that once all night.

I’ve finally started trusting in Stars & Stripes a lot more too thanks to Jellok ( <3 ), and it helped immensely against Zero. I started just throwing it out the other night to see what happened, and it does indeed help if you’re smart with it. Tonight I made a bad call or two (bad hit confirms) with it, but overall I used it very smartly, and it did an awesome job calming down the aireal assaults from Zero.

I was using it to finish some B&B combos w/o hyper, but decided it’s too risky after a L.charging star especially since with M or H you will likely recover AFTER they do…eek. Instead I finish my saving meter B&B combos with L.charging star —> M/H.charging star depending on where I want the spacing after the combo to be for mixups/getting in.

Okay I’ll shut up now, just wanted to give an update. I’m learning more and more that with both Cap and Iron Man patience will get you FAR more damage than trying to speed things up too quickly. I feel as though I’ve transformed yet again, and I’ll only get better and better with more matchup experience…execution is NOT a problem at all lol.

Lol, I’m learning how to use Cap’s normals better and the shield intelligently to get things going/safer. I’m still working on learning the poke ranges, and the pushback stuff. I’ve changed all my used B&B combos not for the most part to start with c.L,M,H so that I can react/pushback better, and net more damage as well.

I’ve really been working on adding Stars & Stripes to my aresenal of tools as well. I don’t really have many gimmicks right now since I’m focusing on just becoming truly solid with my team instead. I know a trick or two just in case, but I would rather lose playing solid than win only because of a gimmick save.

Sometimes it just takes getting out there, instead of my usual fire the game up, hit training mode for a bit, think about some matches, go online or MAYBE run a bit against the computer in training mode. Lately I’ve been making myself just turn the game on, hop online immediately with no warmup, and just see what happens…it’s far more honest that way in what you’re natural tendencies are. Mine are hugely better lately thankfully.

Yea…Well I don’t know what a gimmick is in this game lol. But yea I use my shield slash and assists smarter now. Well my team is Cap/Dorm/Morrigan. Timing Morrigan’s Soulfist Assist omg I love it. Haha I pissed so many players off with it they would treat Morrigan like she is Phoenix n snap her. That fireball breaks combos…helps me ground jumpers…cross up people and she leaves so fast. But Kei is right playing more patiently. But with shield slashes I do throw alot of em. But not mindless spam… It depends on what character and what assists they got. Haha Kei good ta see ya kickin ass. Ah I guess we are similar I play with Dorm so when I fight one with Cap usually blow him up. :smiley: I saw gimpy fight so I slowed down how I fight and now people are sending me hate mail.

I really wish Cap had a ground based overhead in his tool bag!

On another note has anyone else noticed lately that online has been FAAAAAAAAAAR better than in the past? I hope I’m not cursing myself right now, but the past week or so I’ve had great (for marvel) connections with almost everyone. Last night I was having a nice training session with a guy, and he asked me “so you’re in Cali too?”. I laughed pretty hard, and told him no we’re doing this coast to coast (Delaware to California) lmao

My connections have been FAR better than before, and that’s from something like 400 matches or so. I even had touchy connections with my friend in Virginia. We’d have a great connection, then 2 minutes later garbage, then 5 minutes later great…no garbage, no great…etc. We had everything else unplugged, nobody else online, tried different time ranges, tried for weeks. I nor he could get a good connection.

Now all seems to be far better…could it be AE or something lmao, if so…good stuff Capcom, I appreciate that release even more hugely now. :smiley:

i was actually noticing that last night myself the online wasn’t GREAT but it sure was better!

The good online connections continued today for me this afternoon for the couple hours I was online gettin that matchup experience. :smiley:

I only had one match where lag became an issue, but it wasn’t even close to horrid like before, and it was on a stage other than the training stage. I really really hope the online stays at this level or above, because it was really my only true big gripe with the game…the other stuff is little stuff to me.

I gained a lot of very valuable matchup knowledge today, and the matches that I didn’t win, I could point out to you 100% the point where I lost the match. None of the lost matches were super blowouts, though I took it pretty hard from a Spidey in our first bout…things changed drastically the 2nd time around though. :wink:

Every day now I feel like I’m learning something new about my team, and how I can change this or that to be more effective/switch it up. I really think that if all of us keep at him, we can find some truly devestating stuff with Cap…lol then again I guess we already have, but you know what I mean.

Man had some good matches tonight. It is going to be a long road to 1st Lord yeesh. Man guys where is some good new battles with Captain. I want to see other Caps :D!!
