How do you know if your ready for ranked matches?

theres no such thing as not being “ready” for ranked bc its fucking online and theres nothing at stake

When you can block low, and high

Tech throw when you get more advanced

When your console is connected and you put the disc in.

True i do know about how low lvl bp or pp destroys high ranked players. From what Ive seen the online community is probably 25 percent skill and 75 percent spam. What it comes down to in online is who can spam the most grabs or get out of block strings the fastest. So now i guess ill be sticking to player matches occasionally ranked. Thanks for responses

I’m no expert or pro, but I can basically tell you this. Pick a character and go do the trials. Pick 3 or 4 basic combos that are easy and do a good amount of damage. Examine the ranges/speeds of normal attacks. Learn a few basic mix-ups. Now make sure you can execute your basic combos under pressure (Arcade mode and VS mode CPU will work fine.) Once you feel comfortable with these basics, try a few ranked matches. If you lose, you lose. Check your battle log and look for instances where you could have done something different. Apply that to your game. Try a few more ranked matches. Eventually you will begin to feel more comfortable with your character and you will learn what matchups you really struggle with. It’s never really a question of being “ready”. Because there will always be some spammer who throws you for a lopp and takes you off of your game plan. Just learn some basic tools with a character and go for it. And oh yeah, DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE!

not really sure what youre saying here but im pretty sure it means youre awful at the game

Don’t worry about ranked matches. Search for people of equal skill, it’s actually worked out really well for me so far. I’ve got nothing but good matches since I passed 1500 PP.

I second everyone’s comments about not caring about BP either way. Really, it’s just a number and (at least to me) it doesn’t mean much. I know it might be considered anathema on these boards to say, “I’m just playing for fun”, but that makes the process pretty enjoyable for me. The fight is all.

A good thing to keep in mind is that online no one knows who you are or really cares for that matter. You win, great you won. You lose, no one will think any less of you. Just use online as a way to try new things against various playstyles. Try out mixups, footsies, mind games or just mash if you feel like. Better to make common mistakes at home than at a big tournament. Just remember online is just for practice, so dont take it too bad if you lose. By that token Just because you are good online will not necessarily mean you are good live as well. There is no timing for ranked matches, its mostly about whether or not you’re comfortable with who you’re playing with.

I don’t care one bit about PP or BP. I treat Ranked matches as a quicker way to fight than waiting in Endless lobbies.

I think the highest PP I have is about 1500 (I’m not very good), but it regularly drops back to 200ish as I decide to play a different character that day.
