I just recently got my stick, and the first thing that felt comfortable to me was thumb for MK and middle finger for MP. However I think I’m gonna try using the length of my middle finger for both buttons as that sounds more reliable and clean.
im on PSN and i have an unconventional config (one ive been using since alpha3 - but i had to alter it a lil for STFIV)
Square = strong/mp
Triangle = fierce/hp
Cross = forward/mk
Circle = roundhouse/hk
L1 = short/lk
L2 = Throw
R1 = jab/lp
R2 = PPP/KKK depending on character
i use my thumb to focus/cancel and use square and x as 1 button and i never have any problems with it. im on t e stck now and find that i use gunfinger for strong/mp and thumb for forward/mk. i havent any problems focus/cancelling but dashing for me is ridiculously hard and i cant FADC consistently at all!! 
Lord Gemma yours was similar to mine, although I had l2 and r2 as short and jab, circle as hk, triangle as mk and square as mp and X as Hp.
On the TE stick, to cancel, I tap mk and mp twice along with the dash. Some people hold it down but i find it easier and faster to double tap.
I use index and thumb or index and ring finger to do it.

I imagine the majority of people are, yes.
i’m on PSN, & use default (/\ & O) All i use is my thumb, i don’t recall myself doing it any other way.
I use my thumb and Index or middle fingers on arcade stick…on pad i’d just use my thumb i guess
When i first started i used to do middle finger on MP and thumb on MK.
Now i do middle finger on MP and index on MK. I think this two setups are the most commonly used ways to press MP+MK.

Somehow I got into the bad habit of double tapping the mp+mk though…
i use my pointer and middle finger…
the best players only use their pinkies for focus attacks. if you think about it, it requires the most focus thus bringing you EVEN FURTHER into your characters mindset.
In all seriousness though, go to a tournament and watch the way players push their buttons. who knows, maybe you’ll learn a few subtle posture differences used by the pros when throwing out a jab blockstring as opposed to a low short.
in case you really are wondering what the best/most efficient/least effort required method to splooge on your opponents with focus attacks is, i once saw sabin use thumb and pointer finger. multiple times.
Hey, I bet this is super elementary, but for beginners who happen to come by this thread… I see alot of people focus dash cancel the slow way! Ex/MK+MP - -> ->, all wrong, most people hit ->+MP+MK - ->… way way faster! (PS. I know most if not possibly all of you know this!)

For throws it’s easy too, I’d recommend using it this way.
