It’s a fair question for here as well - people just enjoy being dicks.
That maybe, but…
What is this more about: SF4…or hardware (joysticks/arcade stick)?
I’m not sure if it will work for you but try buying a stick (or two) for you brother or even better make one custom to him. Who can say no to something like that? And then let him practise a while befor you challange him again. And then you let him win :badboy:
Hmm, yeah I guess that’s true. Sorry about that.
If a mod can move it to the appropriate sub-forum that’d be great.
Again, sorry for the trouble.
That’d be great. But sticks are expensive, I can’t just buy him one.
The best I can do is give him my old one once I can find a HRAP. But by then I’m sure my EX2 that I’m using now will be pretty worn out. I think it may be wearing out now actually. It seems to be getting harder to pull of Vega’s ultra when I could do it no problem before.
lol what’s wrong with pad?
LMAO at them using the analog stick tho… d-pad ftw!
just because they convert to stick doesnt mean that it will make them a better player… there is so much more involved… in terms of strategy and what not… lmao at using the analogy that all the top tournament players use sticks… are your brother’s friends tournament players? do they want to be? doesnt seem like it… & yea most if not all high level tourney players use stick… but they also have crazy good zoning, execution, frame rate data, matchup knowledge, experience, and strategy… some people suck with pad and will continue to suck with stick… it may not make as big of a difference as you are thinking… especially to the casual gamer…
plus it sucks for that month or so of a learning curve for a stick and wanting to smash it into the ground when ur moves don’t come out like your used to with your trusty pad and you keep losing…
if i was your brother’s friend and didn’t have a stick at home to practice on to get better with, i too would not want to use your stick, not cuz its crappy, but its crappy in the sense that im not gonna learn it in a day, and i really dont feel like learning at the expense of getting my ass kicked in front of all my friends & being frustrated… id rather just have fun and win a few
a better question is… HOW DO I GET MY FRIENDS MORE HARDCORE INTO SF4!!!
now thats a good question… if only i had the answer…
kkkk gl OP!!
Using a stick def takes practice. Can’t blame 'em for waning to use the pad over the stick, if they won’t get to use a stick often.
Are these guys serious about street fighter? If not, who cares?
Well, my brother claims he’s serious about street fighter. His friends aren’t though.
The thing is he only claimed to be really into the game, claimed that he was going to play the hell out of it, until he started losing consistently to me. Now for some reason I “play the game too much” and he “doesn’t care about it”.
Anyways, that’s a whole other story. I just want him to stop bashing on stick users and give the thing a chance.
You’re right. That is a good question.
Anyone have any experience with that?
I’m really thinking that in order for them to get more hardcore into the game, I’d have to stop dominating them so badly until they can get more practice and won’t quit so soon.
But then at some point you have to stop letting them win because they won’t get better if you don’t. It’s a conundrum…
You can’t.
I’ve tried for years to get some of my friends to be more competitive players, since they like SF games. I’ve taken them to tournaments like ECC, etc, but they just didn’t have the drive to be anything more than casual players. Doesn’t mean they were bad. They just didn’t want to take it to the next level.
Same with pads vs sticks. A pad player that plays and improves enough will get to a point where a pad will not be enough for him to compete. He’ll have to choose between converting to a stick or stop improving.
Someone once told me that I’m a bitch cause I block “too much”
It really is personal preference. I used to play fighting games at our local arcades with sticks (obviously) and was better than just about everyone I played when fighting games were actually popular, but that’s not really saying much since skill levels will vary enormously by location.
Anyway, one of my best friends built himself an arcade setup out of an old VF cabinet and had an 8 button layout with some “club” sticks (these were not necessarily Happ, but one of them may have been). There was something very different about his setup from what I was used to playing on a Capcom cabinet, namely how the sticks sat in the cabinet (they were deeper) and it really felt odd to me, and no matter how much he tried to get me to use them I just couldn’t. They felt completely wrong and so I stuck with the Saturn pad. If you’ve ever played on an MAS stick you’ll know what I’m talking about.
Flash forward many years later, I ended up getting a Sanwa stick/buttons custom made and I could never go back to using a pad again. It took me a whole day to get used to it again, but the biggest improvement wasn’t really the stick itself, it was all the buttons. There are just some things that are infinitely easier to do through a stick layout that might even be impossible via pad. Thumbs never got tired from using a Saturn pad…ever, but I used to get so frustrated, especially in a game like MvC2 when trying to do specific combos that require much finger dexterity and hitting more than one button at once.
Anyway, if your brother truly is “serious” about SF, he will at least give your stick a trial run for a day or two if he hasn’t yet. It’s not like he has anything to lose…except more matches.

I’ve always been a pad player but startin today I’m committed to learning a stick. It’s almost like learning the game all over again. I can’t dash, I can’t focus and I dunno why but I keep jumping instead moving fwd/bkwd. Maybe it’s cos I’m putting too much weight in those directions but whatever, its should be worth it.
Well like I said, he was “serious” about it until I surpassed him. I don’t know how to encourage him to keep learning.
Also, who made your stick? I want to get one made as well but I can’t use arcade in a box because I want it to have character artwork on it.
Play with people who are better than you that appreciate playing with sticks
Well, I can do that online. But I like to play with people in person as well and I can almost guarantee that I’m the only stick user in this crappy city.

Wow, brothers fight… news to me.
Have you been to the Canada Matchmaking forum?
I don’t know where in Canada you are (don’t know what NB stands for)…but I think there may be more FG players who use stick.
Doesn’t hurt to check it out, and make more friends…
Hey thanks, I wasn’t aware of this!
I’m from Saint John, in New Brunswick. It’s on the east coast where nothing happens.

SRK, how do I force people to agree with me?
