This thread may seem pointless to some. But now that SSF4 has been out for a while, and the matchups/quirks have fallen into place…How do you feel your Viper has changed from vanilla in general?
I know mine has become a lot less aggressive and less rushdown oriented. Now, this thread isn’t about crying about her nerfs…but rather how you feel she is more effectively played since the changes made to her in SSFIV. I’m interested to hear your opinions.

Same, I’m slightly less aggressive. I don’t use as much BKs anymore and I overuse cr.hp>EX Seismo lol.
Same here. I feel like that was my go to setup to get inside for a lot of my feint mixups? leading to big damage. I played vanilla HARD then kinda fell off when super came out so I’m looking for what adjustments you’ve all made. I enjoyed playing viper inside…so now I feel like my only safe option to get in is mp/lp knuckle.
Her BK game got a lot weaker. She lost some frame advantage and her Instant Air BK arc is less intimidating. She’s a lot more dependent on her feint and seismo game which is fine until you drop a feint or Instant BK and you eat a ginormous combo that kills half your life-bar. She’s still fun to use but a lot harder than before.

In terms of adjustments, from what I’ve seen recently, Vipers are beginning to use more Seismos and use more of her normals.
Has any of her normals really changed besides cr. mp? I always feel unsafe poking with her as they are just too many frames for normals that don’t have the best priority. Perhaps I just have to start trying to sjc cr.mp burst time on reaction…haha I dont even think that’s possible.
c.MK is a really solid long ranged normal and c.HP is only one frame slower. If u can find yourself able to hit people with c.MK just walk up a little bit closer and use c.HP the next time for way more damage.
Perhaps I’m just stubborn…but I hate the fact that half of c.MK goes through certain characters. However I did not know c.Hp is only one more frame. I’m thinking I definitely have to work that into my normal game.
DevilJin…are you still using Viper as your main? Last time I was reading on here (could be mistaken) I thought you were writing her off as more of a flashy guess character not worth the risk vs reward…and I think that was before SSF4 even came out to reveal her nerfs, haha.

When it comes to Viper(and just ground games in general), it’s like you have to get others to either whiff a move so you can punish it, or try to force a counter hit situation. Viper has a good CH combo off her cr.mk and cr.mp(counter hit cr.mk/cr.mp into EX Seismo), cr.hp will combo into EX Seismo regardless. Other normals can go over certain normals, like her overhead going over some ground normals. Her st.lk is okay.
And hope DevilJin doesn’t mind me saying, but he uses both Viper and Ibuki now.
Like most my play has calmed down alot, I’ve been watching space more seriously than before and whiff punish intentionally, I’ve incorporated s.mk into my game the poke is tings! it beats out nuff stuff with the right spacing and c.hp is my new c.mk, in Vanilla I never touched c.hp unless my opponent missed a medium/hard shoryuken lol, also I think my seismo/h.tk game increased alot.
