How do you feel about Money Matches?

I miss the huge money matches that use to happen. I enjoy money matching, just because it forces me to play well. Normally I can’t find the drive to play as solidly as I can if there’s money on the line.

I also just get less nervous in money matches than tournaments. There is still pressure of course, but it’s more in a good way. Most likely because you get more matches to feel out the opponent.

I don’t think MMs manufacture hype. In a lot of the hype money matches were so because there was some beef between the people. Duc vs Sanford was a grudge match with some money in between; same with Dark Prince Jr. vs Clockw0rk and Fanatiq vs Toan. Watching people settle differences in game makes money matches far more hype than the money they are playing for.

I don’t recall there being any beef between Neo and Cl0ck when they did their MVC2 money match; I remember there being interviews afterwards and everyone generally being buddy buddy. Unless you wanna count old school vs. new school, etc.

I’m gonna say it, that MM kind of sucked.

everything after that is boring. ft15 is a horrible format for mvc2 anyway IMO

dont know if you guys know Marq Teddy but i had never heard of him until NCR 2013 and they were saying he went like 37 wins straight and people were just lining up to money match him, he must have killed it. I dont know too much about US tournaments (never been to one) but do people often ask the famous guys (like the guys on EG, COL, AGE, RZR, BT etc.) to money match a lot? I could see if someone was really good and trying to make a name for themselves they would want to money match them but I would imagine most people wouldn’t want to because they feel like they would lose.

I believe with most sponsors, you aren’t allowed to MM anymore. Most likely they won’t get a cut out of it.
