Usually I skim through the previous “How did you choose your characters” thread and copy other people’s methods.

Well, first I pick a game that I like. Then, I pick characters that are unique, but they tend to be cute/attractive girls (doesn’t necessarily mean provocative). Out of those characters that I want to play, I stick with the ones whose move sets really connect with me. Then I stick with that character forever.

For example, here’s a pretty good one with a lot of great tips.

It’s recent, too, so you can guarantee that these character-choosing methods are up-to-date for the most current versions of the games.

Whoops, I take that back! That last thread that I linked is from the NEWBIE SAIKYO DOJO section so it’s just newbies talking about how they choose their characters.

Sorry for the confusion, everyone. I hope that none of you inadvertently chose any characters in the past few minutes based on newbie advice because of my error, and I sincerely apologize if this is the case.

You get one of these every other month.

I’m a tier whore all the way, but I never use shotos no matter what cause they just get me bored to death.
I also tend to favor characters with high execution requirements.

When a new game comes out I will initially pick by how interesting a character looks and go from there. I will spend a few days hitting the complete roster, seeing what feels right, rooting out what does not, and then a personal roster will start to form.

I usually like fast, quick characters with mobility or all around based characters to get a feel for the game. I like to rush down, but I love mixups and making my opponent guess. So I pretty much pick by playstyle, don’t really care much for tiers, but looks sometimes affect my choice if its my first time playing a game

Not that it’s a bad thing, but why are there so many of these threads? Nothing wrong of it, just curious.

youngest female character…does she match my style? nope…go to next youngest female. of course this doesnt work in some games like UMVC3

Most people just search the boards and find the cheesiest/easiest top tier and go with that. Hence why it’s called Ryu Fighter 4 in some cases. I look for Power, Psychosis, Rage, and Comedy; Sagat, Geese, Terry Bogard, Yamazaki, Mr. Karate, Dan, Tung Fu…etc.

The character’s personality, look, and the way their moves are implemented. Then it comes down to the difficulty
in using said character.

i like big fat dudes

Has to have the following requirements
-Green
-Multiple Tentacles
-Giant Eyeball
-Someone/something that could be found from bible black

If all of the checklist is fulfilled, it’s a shoe in!

a shoe-ma in?

I tend to main characters dependent on play style, movelist, or personality. My priorities for characters also have to be a cocky, assholish personality, a villian or both.
