Sure, TACs seem pretty powerful, but ultimately we should wait until people actually abuse TACs in competitive play before prematurely asking for a change. Personally, I can’t support a nerf until it’s shown broken, and for me that would require someone abusing it in competitive play.
In regards to TACs not showing people what the “REAL” way to play is, isn’t that a bit of a questionable notion? What is the “REAL” way to play? If someone is having success doing TACs, why is that wrong? If they can get good using TACs, why is that something that is not desirable, that we wouldn’t want them to do? If TACs truly are “bad play” then eventually these players will hit a point where their opponents will punish them for doing TACs, and it won’t work anymore. At that point they can adapt and keep improving or not adapt and stay stagnant.
If they aren’t punished for doing TACs, and continue to be successful, why would we still disparage them for not playing “the REAL way”? If their opponents can’t punish them, and they continue to improve, doesn’t this suggest that their strategy is just as viable, and just as “real”?
My overall goal with my team is to basically prevent the other guy from pushing buttons, or making him afraid to push buttons in general. TACing means I MAYBE get extra damage instead of making my opponent feel helpless. The way I see things, extra damage is pointless if I can make the guy a glorified training dummy.
Again, TAC’s are broken as fuck. They’re like a 2 out of 3 chance to kill while building an extra 2 bars. As was said, for Wesker, you have a 66% chance of killing rather than less than 50% off a throw reset. Seems pretty obvious to me.
Again, that 50 is not taking into account protection assists. If they have something like Tron or Haggar they can just mash on J.H+Assist free and get out.
lol i still think tac are stupid good… broken? who knows. but they are a little too good in my mind… and thats why i use them. if someone says they are scrubby (and they would be right) why would i care? its in the game and there to be abused to your hearts content. so use it and abuse it till it gets re-worked. good players dont care how scrubby something is if it works.
Given that I don’t have the execution (nor the damage output of Wolverine) to pump out 900k combos in one hit, the best I can do with Zero is 700k damage with 1 meter, 800k+ with 2 meter.
If I’m playing against Zero or Akuma after that first hit, you can bet I’ll go for the damage and not bother with TAC, simply because Zero BnB by itself builds up almost 2 meters.
If I’m playing against Wesker and up and I know I can’t kill with my normal combo, you can BET I’ll try to TAC into Spencer and do the DHC glitch. Heck, even TAC-ing all the way to Taskmaster works because his down arrow hyper can DHC back into Zero/Spencer. I can hit these from any TAC angle as well; side, up or down.
Long story short, I will go for the kill every single time, scrubby TAC-ing or not. My team fortunately can make TAC-ing into anyone at any angle actually work.
I just started implementing tac’s and it has made my game way better! I can use it to switch characters for dhc glitches, switch to characters that can otg if I don’t have an otg assist, build some easy meter, extend comboes, switch to characters that can relaunch, ect.
How exactly? Wesker’s reset is pretty basic 50/50. TAC is 66/33 if they’re mashing(which many players don’t by fear of being reset). You can do the math
It’s also annoying that they’re essentially uncounterable online. I’m also resisting the temptation to pull an akuma12342342 and drag up posts of mine from a few months ago when I was bitching about how stupid TACs where and how they rated just below the DHC trick on the retardation scale but I won’t because I’m a nice guy and I don’t roll like that.
Wesker’s resets off an OTG gunshot: Air Throws, jump loop, tick throw with command grab, teleport crossups, Rhino charge invincibility abuse(not too common). M followup Teleport from OTG shot then 6H~L if the gunshot hits. There are probably a few more I don’t know about.
I’m not too good at math, but I’m guessing those are better odds than 66/33.
When the person can block gimmicky stuff they’re not better than 66/33. There’s a reason why people stick to the basic 50/50. Even then, it can backfire(oh shit, Mags grabbed me, GGs) and you end up sadfacing.
When the person has a protection assist, they’re pretty terrible odds.
When have gimmicks ever been a bad thing? Abusing gimmicks has always been a staple of fighting games.
Likewise, you’re saying that 3 possible options are better than 5, completely disregarding that a counterd TAC means you’ve just lost all the momentum you’ve had upto this point.
When the person has a protection assist I back off anyway. Its a given they’re going to be mashing the assist out to get the pressure off. This is actually preferable to me as it gives me a chance to chew up an assist.
