I feel your pain, see I’m completely new to MvC3… I’m coming from MvC2 I’ve played MvC3 for maybe 2 weeks top, so yes it is a learning curve to pick this game up. My best advice is to pick people you like then work with each individual, goto the character forums here read combos, look at videos, there is a lot of knowledge here. If you want I have no problem coming over to hang with you and lab cause I want to get better at this game like you and we can learn from one another.
marvel 3 is game that is easy to get frustrated with. With that said, first you have to work with your characters. Do they have synergy? How does each character work? Sure, we know the basic aspects of characters, but you have to know the depth of your characters? and stick to one team. It takes a bit to understand how each character on the team. What their role is. Look how other people use their teams. For example, alot of people use wesker anchor. there’s a reason for this. He’s great for last stands. but that’s not all he’s good for. he sets up his team very well (via gunshot down) and is good in any order.
But when it comes down to it. It’s a lot of research. For me, I watch a lot of videos of others to get an idea of how my character would be play. look at different styles of play of the characters i want to play. Hit the forums learning how to execute bnbs. Videos imo give me a visuals on the do’s and don’t s of certain aspects of the characters i chose. so yea don’t get frustrated. we all started somewhere at some point. i got my ass handed to me a 100 wins in a row in Soul Calibur 2 when i first started. things take time to develop.
Thats what im tryin to do. I love the game but the shit pisses me off. i been grindin since monday online and i got the bible. I know im getting better no doubt. ghost rider bodys me free all day and wesker is broken in half but ima stick to it. I feel naked with out my nigga deadpool but i just play better with wolverine/sent/wesker. YO NAS i been wanting to ask you what was the reason you had jean second @ evo? i know you had some kinda reason.
Do yall play on ps3 online? if so il just get it for ps3
If anyone has xbox add me. thekid302 on psn and xbl
I play on 360, but the meetups at Nas are mostly on PS3 unless someone brings a 360 over, but yeah I’m still trying to find synergy with people im working on something.
wesker is actually pretty easy if the guy using wesker isn’t using his teles correctly or without assists (or assist that cover him). if you happens to teleport. if teleports in front of you just hit an attack button. usually wesker will get caught and that’s a free hit confirm into bnb. when teles upward. just airthrow him/ or use fast attack that beats out his j.S or J. H. Ghost Rider is pretty slow and is vulnerable to people with tele’s. wesker owns up ghost rider free… esp with sent drones backing you up. same could be said for wolvie and beserker slash. while it may not have the invul. he can get in pretty quick on ghost rider.
for my reasoning for phoenix second at evo. well i always felt confindent enought i could get five bars with phoenix. also usually if she’s the last character, people usually run away to time her out (at least the matches i play). third is i always seem to want to throw a projectile base character last. that character sets me up so much (in this case taskmaster) that losing him early feels worse than even losing phoenix. and even if i lost phoenix, i still have a pretty good combo with Wesker/Taskmaster. so i wasn’t out of it.
also i’m starting to play online on ps3. i hate it but it lets me try out my new team so i can take the good with that bad.

Sup all had fun at NEC nice seeing almost everybody, sorry if i wasn’t as talkative as usual I was quite tired both days. Did anyone want to get in to anything today/tomorrow,today I’m free from 12 noon and on, i can’t do anything too late today because I have work tomorrow. tomorrow I can do something later but I won’t be around til after 4. Willing to drive or host, trying to play some KOFXIII mainly but I am down for Marvel, street fighter, or even blazblue to be honest. Let me know guys.
Yeah, Ghost Rider is free to anyone that can either rush him down or stay in the air and throw fireballs. Given the pace of Marvel, there’s very few matchups he has an advantage in. Translation: He’s garbage. He needs a ground bounce move like Nemesis or Sentinel have to be any kind of threat. In a game of touch of death, picking away at an opponent’s lifebar ain’t gonna get the job done. Needless to say, I’m done with him.
My problem with Wesker recently has been the Level 3 X-Factored variety. I lost in the tourney to him, then I kind of got a little pi$$ed at some scrub in casuals afterwards (I remember I just yanked my stick out of the port and went “yeah, whatever”). All four matches, I bodied the whole team with all my characters remaining. Glad I didn’t stay for finals. Needless to say, I’m highly considering adding him, especially since Capcom didn’t exactly follow through with their original nerfing plan.
Nas, Biz, I’m open for Wesker lessons/critiques when I start playing him.
I don’t play Marvel but from how I’ve seen the matches play out it seems like at this point until new tech is discovered when it comes to Wesker it’s very much a “pick him or lose” kind of game. Just an observation from someone on the outside that really has no idea how the game works.
Like Nas said it should be pretty easy to beat someone using Wesker that is using him poorly, but you can’t rely on your opponent being trash to get a win.
Biz you want to try to get some casuals on this Friday or next before everyone gets lost in the holiday shuffle?
If those epic loses in teams at NEC taught me anything it’s that I simply don’t know the matchups I played and I continually try to apply pressure when there is no safe way for me to do it. I can do the combos, it would seem improvement is completely mental at this point.
He’s not overpowered, except when in level 3 X-factor. He’s just worse in that mode to deal with than most of the rest of the cast. Add a speed and power boost to a character with a teleport based mixup AND has good footsies and an instant command grab AND his own OTG AND can start touch of death combos off a single air throw AND still has a stupid amount of health…You got Dark Wesker. That, and assists that OTG are pretty few and far between in Marvel 3, so he rarely will actually hurt your team by having him in there.
Dark Wesker loses to Dark Dante and Dark Strider. You may not be able to block Dark Wesker for very long, but good luck getting in a hit on Dark Dante or Dark Strider.
Come to think of it, Wesker loses those matchups anyway. He’s really not that broken of a character, only about top 10-15 from where I stand. The thing about him is the floor and ceiling of his gameplan/potential are almost one and the same. The Weskers we are seeing now won’t evolve because Wesker has no potential. He’ll do nothing but drop in the list, so long as people are willing to explore other characters.
@Goldfish: Pick up Firebrand again. I’ve been doing some reading, and he’s got a ton of potential.
Oh, and:
I have, plenty of times. All I did was just decide that I was going to have fun, and do my best to win, so I kept playing. When you care too much about winning, or even about getting better, you lose sight of having fun. The only time someone stops getting better is when they cause the game, by their own devices, to become not fun anymore. When you have fun playing a game, you’ll level up much faster than just burying yourself in the thought of winning, because you’ll end up overthinking everything. That’s the feeling of stagnation you get, and it’s very hard to keep playing a game after that. So my advice? Just have fun: read stuff about your characters, watch videos of hype matches, or just play more. You’ll get back into it, just don’t stress anything.
Lets do it, what time Sunday?
Goldfish, you free for us to go hardcore and trash each other?
Agreed. I can’t this Friday, next?
I agree. Really, Wesker is just a scapegoat for how crazy X-FACTOR is. As a character, he’s fine.
He can’t TOD off an airthrow, though, w/o X-factor.

Alright guys if anybody wants to play tonight, games at my place, starting sometime between 7:30 and 8, ending whenever I don’t have to work tomorrow til three in the afternoon. Will be playing street fighter mainly if a couple guys want to come out we can get 2 set ups an run whatever on the other setup. If you want to come out pm me for the address and my cell # and let me know what you want to play, so i can make sure we can have it ready. I am willing to play whatever but I can guarantee there will be a dedicated SF4 setup since Scott is coming. Let me know guys.
I’m down for sunday. lemme know what’s up. i have to train my new team into shape. also i’m not one to say things on tier list but he’s defienetely a top8 character imo. he has everything you. his own otg, his own wall bounce, teles for mixup, good footsies, lvl x 2 and 3 for goodness, good defense as well (gunshot is a good tool for keeping away).
even good people use teles incorrectly sometimes. you just have to expose them when they do.
The “First” at everything. If you all are doing anything Saturday or Sunday please let me know and I’ll come by to get some lessons, work on my team, and get more used to playing other characters.
(EPIC SOUND EFFECT)!!! HERE COMES A NEW CHALLENGER!
haha welcome to the srk boards pacifist LOL
Good to see you took my advice, Jose.
We are not poisoning this scene with that character. >_>
Needs Moar Wesker. You can play him with your face. Don’t need a touch of death. He presses buttons for free.
Frustration solved. Play Wesker.
