Hori T5: Modding Tutorial

My messy wiring… But hey… IT WORKS!

I was actually able to use the screws that came with the LS-32-01 to mount it in there and it was at 33mm. I guess it makes a difference if you use a flat mounting plate.

I tried counter sinking, but I don’t think the screws are as flat as they need to be. I was too scared that I would accidently go to through with the larger drill bit. I will do at it again when the plexi comes. I did the lock washer mod too. I found some black hex screws that will look good with the final artwork.

nice job man, cant wait to see it complete with the plexi/artwork

I ended up buying that t5 case that the guys friend sat on the stick and broke the mounting plate off. It will be my next project. I will be JB welding the start, select and first 2 buttons. Move the start select either to the side or back of the case, havent decided. Ill be putting an LS56 and PS-14-kns in that sucker. The artwork will be pretty girly though since my wife wants it to be a Tokidoki Stick. Ill make her happy while still getting another stick! lol

nice realyst come over and paint mine:)

Nothing wrong with girly!

One of my favorite Hori sticks is the Arcana Heart 2 stick. :lovin:

Yes, it’s as pastel as they get but it’s actually not half-bad art and it becomes a Grade-A stick once you finish installing better buttons!

(There’s a pukey green Hori stick being advertised for the 360 that’s an Amazon-Japan exclusive for some 360 arcade shooter just like the Death Smile stick was. That green stick is horrible looking!)

Now if only Art Hong has those Extended T5 plexis in so that I can fully cover the art… I’ve the old T5 plexi in place but there’s still about 1/8 inch of art exposed on each side.

Don’t want to spill water or sweat on the art!

Finally got my Second T5. Gonna do this one up like my First, I’m thinking of having one with the Current “Shadaloo” art, then the other with the “Good” guys. These will be the CP on my viewlix project.

This is kind of a Before and After…

Got mine done thanks to this thread. It was a lot of work but I’m liking it a lot.

I don’t know why but this piece of information is one of the most important things people should know but it usually isn’t included in the FAQs about modding or Sanwa/Seimitsu differences…

Here’s an image explaining the relation between wiring in the Sanwa and Seimitsu 5-pin wire harnesses.

http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/2211/jlfpcbpinouts.jpg

This is something everybody should keep handy in a folder somewhere on their computer and print out.

You don’t know how many times vendors send out the wrong style wire harness or carry only one kind.

Remember, the ground wires are different between the two types of harnesses. The only wire color that’s the same is green! Harnesses are cross-compatible between JLF and LS-32-01. At least the Seimitsu wire harness works on both variety of sticks.

BTW, the PCB pictured is a JLF PCB.

Good stuff GC, i figured this awhile ago, but never saw that pic floating around.

Done! Only thing I want to do is change that Black 24mm to white and put some kind of rubber lining on the bottom of the stick. Hard work, but I got it all done! I am proud of myself. lol

Nice t5 stick I like it:)

Realyst- Good stuff bro, i like it. Could use some seimitsu PS-14-GN© buttons though. j/k Doesn’t it feel good to accomplish a task like this? Any more mods in the future? I hope my advice/input helped you out alot with your project. Wait until I get the funds to do my wifes stick. Its gonna be funny with her girly art. Ill be putting an LS56 in her stick. BTW, i was looking at a LS56 and realized how easy it will be to get it in the case. cant wait.

AJ - I already had those buttons so I used them. Didn’t want to go and buy a whole new set when I actually let this set up. But hey, with the quick disconnects on, it’ll be easy to change if I change my mind. I don’t have a problem with Sanwa buttons really. It’s Sanwa sticks I am not a big fan of.

Yes it does feel good to do this. It was cool seeing everything come together. I’m thinking about doing some sort of Ninja Turtle stick, but we’ll see. Also trying to learn how to do a single USB mod instead of using 2 cords. I personally like the 2 cords, but I want to learn how to do the single one too. Maybe I will check out other Seimitsu sticks as well. You were definitely a big help. Don’t be surprised if I hit you up for help with other projects in the future. Thanks again!

For anyone grinding down button tabs, I used an emery board an it worked really well.

HOw long did it take you? isnt that what women use for their toenails?

I have run into a problem with my new T5. The 4 stock screws that hole the Stick to the mount are stripped on the end. Does anyone happen to know what size screws these are? I need to pick up 4 new ones as these are useless…

Thanks

sorry, not sure the size/specs. But if you go to a hardware store, especially like ace you can show them the screw you have and they will find a match. Im pretty sure they arent metric though. forgot what the thread looks like.

Yea, if you go to Home Depot they have a bunch of… I guess you can call them sample holes in the aisle that has screws. Take your screw there and see which hole it fits in, then go from there.

This is what you said minus afew letter/words… im bored and dont wanna go to sleep.

Oh AJ, I saw what you did there… On an unrelated note…, I think I will mod a Mayflash next. Those have the same button layout as the T5/HRAP 1. But I will only do it if I can get a plexi for it.

yeah, sorry. lol
Have you played on a mayflash yet? Its a decent case to mod, but overall I wasnt comfortable playing on it. I felt awkward. Just isnt my thing. But i had fun modding acouple either way.
also on a unrelated topic, you wouldnt happen to have a T5 dr download still, would you? Mine got corrupt some how and ive been wanting to polish up on my motions before T6 comes out. Im kinda rusty, time to resurrect my A.king!!! lol BTW, i know its a long shot, but its worth a try.

Edit- On a side note, im parting out my dual modded t5 stick if anyone is interested in it. All the parts i used were brand spanking new. ONly used acouple of hours when i was testing the stick to make sure everything was working properly.

How do i get to the tool box that shows all the layers and lets me show or remove a layer? Im using gimp btw
