The SE and HRAP2 are not the same stick to begin with, and the only other commercial made for console stick that had Seimitsu parts was the HSS-0130 Twin Astro Panel for the Saturn. And maybe the Virtua Stick also made by Sega, but I’m not 100% certain on that one, and dunno for either Saturn or PS2 versions of said stick.
No offense or anything, but do you happen to know the difference between Sanwa and Seimitsu, or do you have a preference for either? Or are you just saying you want to use Seimitsu parts to stand out from the Sanwa crowd? :wonder:
I have a US Tekken and a SFAnniversary and I like playing more on the Tekken so I was going to mod it. Problem was when I looked at the mod directions, it seemed harder to do than the HRAP. Also I have no solder, or solder experience. So I have two questions.
The first is if I keep my US Tekken, is it necessary to desolder, or is there another possible route to go. All I really want to do is put a bat top in and maybe switch the buttons to Sei.(sawna’s are waayy to touchy for me).
The second is if go and buy a HRAP, how difficult is it to change the face plate. I have read threads about it in the past, but I can’t find any of them.
Changing the faceplate on a HRAP wouldn’t be difficult at all, but why would you want to and where do you expect to find a replacement? Having a custom faceplate made would be costly, if you want the button layout of a specific HRAP model just buy that one already…
Never said anything bout different button layout, I think the HRAP layout is perfectly fine. I don’t have the HRAP yet because first I want to see what the responses to my question would be first then decide after that. I guess when I think about it the faceplate wouldn’t be a big deal, but since people always talk about it I kinda thought it was.
Alright here is my question, I am thinking of ordering a HRAP, mostly to use on 3s on my xbox, and potentially some other games on the dreamcast. MY problem is that from what I am reading most converters map the white and black buttons the L1 and R1. and the HRAP’s layout is
L1 [] /\ R1
L2 x 0 R2
Meaning in 3s on the xbox the only usable buttons are
L1 [] /\ R1
__x 0
Which doesn’t seem like the best layout for fighting games. Am I wrong in this, and if not is there a convetor that maps white and black to either L1 and L2 or R1 and R2?
It’s not too difficult. There are 2 ways you could go about doing this.
1 - easier:
just get the artwork you want to put on the face plate and line it up. then use a contact or sticky plastic sheeting to stick it down to the plate. do it just like contacting a book.
2- harder:
rip off the mirror finish (it is just a super thick sticker), then lay your art on top. measure and cut a piece of 0.8mm lexan sheet (polycarbonate resin) and stick that on top.
I believe leaveal has experience with the 1st method (please let me know if i got the wrong person).
I’ve done the 2nd method and I’m planning on writing an illustrated guide to this sometime. It all depends on when my friend wants to mod his HRAP 1 v1. The method I used involved removing the turbo switches also (less cutting of the lexan sheet).
Oh if your lucky you’ll end up getting a HRAP 1 v2, which has the same face plate of the HRAP 2, so there won’t be any need to mod the top, unless you want it to look unique =].
I used the Magic Box converter with my HRAP 1 and buttons mapped correctly for SF3 IRC. I can’t check it now, as my HRAPs are at work hooked up to our Street Fighter setup (just a Dreamcast with SFZ3 and SF3:3S hooked up to VGA box and LCD TV - woot for Dreamcast and native VGA output!)
Someone brought this up earlier in the thread but I don’t think anyone cared.
I’ve got the new(er) version of a hrap1. from what I can tell the stick mounting plate is quite different from the origional version of the hrap1 (from what I’ve seen in pics). So does anyone know where I could get a tutorial for putting an LS-32-01/LS-32-02 into this version hrap?
I’m seriously desperate to get this stick in and I took out the origional stick yesterday and replaced my buttons. Now, because I can’t be bothered to put the origional stick back in, I can’t play 3s. anyone help me out?
cheers.
EDIT: ok, i’ve put a bit more thought into it and i’m guessing there isn’t going to be a quick fix on this. The only thing I can think of doing is drilling in 2 more holes in the mounting plate. But then I have the problem of making sure the stick is exactly centred. Is that the only way?
Oh if your lucky you’ll end up getting a HRAP 1 v2, which has the same face plate of the HRAP 2, so there won’t be any need to mod the top, unless you want it to look unique =].
i got tho one with no mirror top is this good or bad?
also it works perfect with the magicbox converter
Yeah it’s good, but from what desk has shown us it could be bad also. Looks like they made it easier to install the LS-32-01/02 (no need to rotate the PCB - i think).
For the LS-32-01/02 as long as the 5 pin connector is facing towards the buttons, then it is correctly positioned/rotated. If you’re still not sure, then just plug the 5 pin connector into your LS-32 and see which way is UP, DOWN, LEFT and RIGHT, then you can be 100% sure how the PCB should be mounted.
To be a little more specific I think i remember my LS-32-01/02 having the mounting plate vertical and not horizontal (just like how the new HRAP1 v2 metal plate is designed).
the main problem I have is actually getting the stick in there. The LS-32-02 is too big to fit in the ‘dip’ of the mounting plate (meaning that even if I did get it in there, there would be a few cm gap between the stick and the top) and also the holes aren’t in the right place to fit LS-32-02.
it all depends on the games you planning on using your HRAP with. If you’re going to play SFAC, then you MUST get a Magic Box converter. It is the ONLY one that works with that game and the HRAP.
It also supports Saturn and Dreamcast pads (<3 jap Saturn pad)
(note: doesn’t support Agetec DC stick - AKA Green Goblin - it will only map 4 of the buttons for some reason. @_@)
The only thing bad about the Magic Box is not having any Xbox live headset support. It can only take an Xbox mem card, but not the headset (even if you mod the headset to fit in the mem card slot it still wont work - tested by someone on this board).
There was another one that was good (but still non working with HRAP and SFAC), but i’ve totally forgotten the name. I remember it was made by BOOM or something like that. It supports Xbox Live headset.
I asked this question in the Converter thread but got no response.
What is the consensus on the best PS2–>USB converter for HRAP2? Besides using the stick for all those fighting games in PS2, I want it to also work flawlessly on my PC (for MAME).
I’m new to the whole stick thing, in fact I haven’t touched an arcade stick since SFII. Anyway, I got myself a HARP1 to play ThirdStrike on my PS2, and I love the stick to death, but i’m having alittle trouble with the square restrictor plate. Everytime I play I notice it less and less, while I get better at doing the quarter motions. THe thing is I don’t remember the SFII arcade machine having a square restricktor plate.
My questions are:
*What type of restrictor plates do third strike machines have?
*Is it easy/posable to change my HARP1’s restrictor plate?
*(just to ease my mind) What type of plates did the old SFII machine?
