Hori Real Arcade Pro EX-SE (Xbox 360) - Seimitsu Stick!

Possibly. I’m gunna have to open this up and see how hard/easy that will be. I’m wondering if I can use multiple springs on this kinda like the dual spring sanwa trick.

I dont think the spring is the issue, as much as the pivot point is.

Here is some good information on Seimitsu sticks:

Scroll down about halfway and you will see the info on Seimitsu.

the “flimsy” I was talking about is the fact that it takes almost no force just to move the stick, that actually throws off my game quite a bit. I was thinking that was an obvious spring issue. I could be wrong though I guess. I wanna confirm it before I spend money on springs.

Dear all,

Just picked up a xbox and I’m contemplating between the Madcatz TE and the Hori ex SE. I’d like to ask owners of both which they find to be a better choice.

I have been doing searches on reviews and it seems that there is less stick failure with the Hori than the 360 TE, which is known to have button recognition problems.

I own the Hori SA and SE for ps3 and love it to death. I am impressed by the company’s Quality Control thus far. However, I’ve also played on authentic viewlix cabs and like the layout. In a perfect world, Hori would make a viewlix layout (it seems they already are, but not until next year with the HRAP V). Perhaps I should be patient and wait until next year when they arrive, this is also an option.

If owners of both could kindly share their experience of both sticks and which they prefer, I would greatly appreciate it.

Notes:

  1. I have no preference over Sanwa to Seimitsu and like using both.

  2. Cable length and cable storage compartment are not an issue for me.

  3. I may be doing some modding. Which one is easier to access the insides?

  4. I usually play on tables/stools, not on my lap.

  5. I would like to dual mod for ps3. I’ve heard that the ex-se is not common ground, but I’m not sure what this means.

Thanks in advance,

z

If dual mod is a must go with the TE, not common ground is not an easy mod for dual mod porpuse.

Exactly. Get the TE if you are dead set on dual modding. Both the HRAP EX-SE and the TE are easy to access as they both are accessible through hex keys on the faceplate. Get the TE if you prefer the layout, I would recommend the HRAP just because I like the layout. Another option to consider is dual modding one of your PS3 HRAPs, since their PCB is common ground, and hence easier to dual mod.

thanks for the info. is there any reason why the hrap ps3 would be common ground, but the xbox hrap ex, not? There must be some technical reason Hori went this route.

just wanted to ask, is this stick better or worse (or same) as the TE stick or fightstick modded with sanwa parts? Which would you guys prefer?

I think Hori went with a non-common ground pcb due to headset port, that’s the only reason I could think of.

I don’t have a HRAP EX-SE, but I have a HRAP 2 SA and a TE. I also played on my brother’s modded SE. I like the feel and layout of the HRAP better, and would recommend it solely on that. The TE has some nice extras like the cord compartment, extra weight (compared to the SE and HRAP), moved start/select buttons, and better headset port placement. However, since Amazon has the HRAP EX-SE for $90, the TE ($120) extras are not worth the extra $30 imo. I would only recommend the SE if you want a more portable stick and are itching to mod a stick.

Bottom line: if you want a portable stick, get an SE and mod it, if not get the HRAP since it is cheaper than the TE.

Does the HRAP EX-SE have a bottom metal plate? Looking at the pictures on page 6 indicates that there is no need for one since the bottom is plastic. Also, what is common ground used for? Just curious since I placed an order for the EX-SE yesterday for $79.99 from amazon. I already own a HRAP 3 for my PS3 and I know that one has a bottom metal plate but it is a pain to open up. Can someone confirm.

Thanks

  1. It should have a bottom metal plate. Even though the top plate has hex key access (meaning you do not need to open the bottom to change buttons or the stick and only need a hex key to open the top), the bottom metal plate can be removed as well. This is based off my experience with the HRAP 2 SA, shouldn’t be much different from the HRAP EX-SE as they are both higher end HRAPs.

  2. Common ground only deals with dual modding your stick. A common ground stick is much easier to dual mod. Since this is not a common ground stick, it will be much more difficult to put a 2nd PCB in to support two systems.

Hope that answers your questions.

I must have a bum JLF or something because the LS-32 feels a lot more stiff and clicky to me than my modded SE with the JLF…LOL

JLF is supposed to be a lot more mushy than the LS-32.

does anyone know if it is possible to replace the seimitsu stick with a sanwa JLF?

Possible.
I have typed out how on SRK.
I have done it for others before.

Did you delete your Thread?

There will be the soldering way.
There will be the non-soldering way.

First way:
Remove LS-32 by cutting the wires off of it.
Prepare your JLF-TP-8 by cutting Trace or desolder off Microswitch.
Then install JLF-TP-8 by soldering wires directly to the Microswitches.

Second way:
Lizard Lick now sells JLF-TM-8, so that is really cool.
After removing the LS-32, add Quick Disconnects to wires.
Install JLF-TM-8, connecting the Quick Disconnects to Microswitches.

You live in Fullerton.
Want me to do it for you?

hey, i’ll let u know if i need u to do it for me.

right now i’m considering just getting a new stick.

If you end up getting a new stick, I’ve got a brand new MvC TE and I’m in North Long Beach right ~5 minutes off the 91. I can also dual mod it if you’re interested.

brighenne, you going to West Coast Warzone II?

Yes, but I won’t be there for long as I’ll be studying for a midterm and working on class projects. I’ll be heading over there sometime saturday to give a piece of wood to jesse for a case he’s making me and I’m going to try to head out there to watch sf4 top 16.

edit-Why do you ask?
