THAT’S CRAZY IT’LL NEVER WORK!

i just got a framemeister and i can’t get a video signal from the jap rgb21 cable from my modded rgb NES and SNES. i get a video signal from my supergun rgb. I have an xrgb2+ and i get a video for the NES and SNES. Is there some setting i need on the framemeister or a sync cleaner? Or something else?

thanks
Kurt

First are you using a Japanese or European 21 Pin connector? They have a different pin configuration.
You might need a sync cleaner.

If you are using a European Scart and a Framemeister

Will there be lag if I use a VGA to HDMI conveter for Dreamcast? I ask because it’s converting a analogue signal to digital.

You answered your own question.
There is a conversion, thus there WILL be lag, no matter how minute. Now whether or not the amount of lag is actually acceptable is a whole separate question. That will be determined by the quality of the converter used.

Damn, that’s a bummer. Thanks for the reply. I want to play DC MvC2 on an HDTV but the TV doesn’t have VGA plug in. I’ve read that VGA to Component is the best way for DC on HDTV’s because the signals are both analogue.

The only surefire way to play older consoles properly on newer HDTVs is using a transcoder of sorts, and anyone will tell you that it basically means buying any of the Micomsoft XRGB series of converters. They usually run $200-500 depending on the model and the condition (used/new/etc).

Yeah this is really old. I haven’t had time to update it at all. The fact is, the setup isn’t as easy as I thought and I planned on a total overhaul once I finally got it done.

Wow, been a while since this thread has seen any action…

To answer your question: you could definitely use a VGA to Component TRANSCODER (not scaler) to hookup your Dreamcast to an HDTV… provided said HDTV has component inputs. Definitely a cheaper option than going full-on with a Framemeister.

Since you’re only transcoding the color space, and not actually upscaling anything (at this point in the chain), no additional lag will be introduced. However, you will be at the mercy of the scaler built into your HDTV, as it will take that 480p signal and bump it up to native panel resolution.
