Hooking EVERYTHING up to a modern HDTV - A Guide (Update for the Framemeister coming soon!)

If you are using that scaler, don’t use the scart power option (one of the switches on the sync strike switches between scart power / external power). The power from the scaler hookup is much more reliable, and easy to use

Cool stuff. I needed the outlet space anyhow. Thanks. What’s the difference between putting the red and black cables in through the top as opposed to the side?

I 100% disagree: I have a Sync Strike and a GBS scaler, and all works perfectly powered from external or SCART with the systems I listed above.

Regardless, using the power from one for the other is more convenient. Just makes me wonder what I’m gonna do with a European AC adapter with the tip cut off.

Scart power can vary and effect sync voltage levels, as noted by bencao. No reason not to use the better power source - you hook up 2 wires to a screw terminal.

Time out. You guys saying powering the SS via the scaler might be a BAD idea? Damn it.

o_O Nobody has said any such thing. Do you even read what people post?

So much. Like 2-3 times. That’s why it was asked as kind of a question.

So. I tested out my stuff and I’ve got problems. Odd ones.

PS2: small dots in picture (see picture)
SNES: cuts in and out (the SS is properly powered as the N64 doesn’t have this problem)
N64: DARKNESS!!! No amount of tweaking on the scaler setting changes this
Genesis: video cuts in and out. Rarely makes it past the generic licensing screen oddly enough you still get the music.

It also seems like every console would need seperate settings to be optimized. Because when I did get video the settings I used for the Saturn before didnt look right for SNES.

NOTHING IS WORKING!!! Except the Saturn. That thing is solid. working 100% capacity, looks great.

N64 is not going to work with sync strike unless you purchased a modded N64 for RGB

I had it Modded. I linked a modder to the tutorial sent it in and he said he did it.

You might want to crack open your N64 and see what revision it is. Mine was a NUS-CPU-04 and this tutorial did squat. Apparently it needs more juju for c-sync.

Where am I looking?

Look at the top above the cart slot on this picture. It says NUS-CPU-01. From what I understand that tutorial only works with NUS-CPU-01 through NUS-CPU-03. If you have a security bit you can open the case and see this pretty easily.

did they test the system?

He said he wasn’t able to because he didn’t have RGB cables himself.

He seems very well known though, not like he’s some random.

check out the shmups hardware section there is vast info on these topics

I have asked and (I assume) they shall answer! Blue blazes, I thought this would be simpler.

What’s the serial number of your 64?
