Anyone wanna aim for visiting Lai Chi Kok this coming Friday?
im down for the kok
I’m almost out of my countryside visit. I don’t have responsibilities as many of you do, so I’m not expecting the World. I will be at any arcade – running down a list, in the afternoons of this week, next week, week after, etc.
Alex has my info, and I’ll probably call him while he’s at work so I can laugh at his real-life. So, he can forward my call or number to anyone else. I hope.

Asia Game Show 2011
December 23 - 26
Anybody wanna go? Apparently there’s going to be a SFxT announcement during it. Also, I work on top of the convention center so maybe I could get tickets easily. We will have to see. But the time is pretty shitty, 23-26 is everybody’s vacation, so do expect a massive crowd where you won’t be able to move around at all.
There is definitely going to be a typically insane amount of people. I normally don’t bother but I’ll probably go this time because of SFxT.
I’ll be back home in Taiwan around then. Not a fan of conventions or massive crowds so I’d pass regardless.
do ittttt
PUSSY.
Also, going to hit up the lai chi kok (from now on know as the “Kok”) with Tim tonight, if anybody is down for some sf let me know
Man, I miss the hell out of Hong Kong already. It took me a one month trip to realize how primitive North America is and how much it sux nads.
Not SF related, but just wondering if anyone else in this thread is working a full time job in HK aside from Alex/Ben? I know HK is the land of the hustlers, but is it true HKers work people like slaves? Will it be hard to get a job if you’re only semi-bilingual? Alex, how long did it take you to look for a job in HK and did you know anyone from your company prior to getting hired?
the convention sounds tight, i’m down. assuming i can get some time away from the fam
i’m not at all excited for gem fighter however. fuck that game
jon: you should come back, i don’t have any good job advice sadly but it’d be tight to have more cool players around for sure.
Ben: this “new” guy is fucking godlike. best troll i’ve ever seen. real talk. you’ll meet him soon enough.
Jon: Being bilingual definitely helps with job searches here, but in your case (like mine), being able to read/write chinese is quite important. my survival chinese consists of road signs and menus. I would say look into working for either American/Canadian companies that have a presence here, then they would be a little more lenient on the language side of things. It’s hard working for a Hong Kong company with a lack of literacy in chinese. But, even within the company I work for, there are white people, and they work for corporate communications (speaking/pr/liaising), so you could look into stuff like that. Also, do you have xbl? We can try to get some laggy ass matches in. you got dat best bipson
^ Dumb question on my part, I forgot about all the expats working in HK who can’t speak a lick of Chinese lol. I just hope the language barrier won’t hold me back. I’ma take a few Cantonese/Mandarin classes. And nah, I deactivated Facebook and I only have a PS3. You got MSN? How long did it take you to find your job in HK and get hired, and did you start applying for jobs in HK while you were in NYC? Appreciate it, man.
I started applying for jobs in October last year (in NYC, via the internet and throwing around resumes/emails), worked for a watch manufacturing company for a month before I got my current offer in January, so 2-3 months I guess. I mean really, when you’re job hunting with minuscule job experience (like me), its better to just take a shitty job rather than no job, you need to build up that experience before anybody even considers you. I work in a restaurant for a year before coming to Hong Kong and I guess that helped a bit because of all the interaction with customers and it being a “team” based job all the time.
