Hong Kong SF4 players Report hereeee

anybody wanna hit up gamemax/wanchai arcade later tonight? im pretty free (in all senses)

I’ll come down at around 8. Should be done with homework by then.

I’ll be staying in Hong Kong from now until the end of October. Looking to see what kind of comp HK has to offer. I’ve hit up two arcades thus far… one in Mong Kok (I forgot the name of the arcade), it’s on the second floor, and a small arcade beside the computer center mall in Lai Chi Kok. The arcades are TRASH! A few of the buttons are non responsive and the stick is fucked up.

Anyone know of any arcades around HK Island or the Kowloon area with high level competition and superior, durable arcade parts? Let me know! I’ll be staying in Mid-Levels and Mei-Foo.

Any chance you can make the trip down to the Wan Chai/Causeway Bay area sometime this weekend? Competition in Wan Chai is pretty solid.

^ For sure, I should be free this weekend. Do u have the name and addresses of the arcades in both Wan Chai and Causeway Bay? Would also appreciate it if u can tell me what exits to take at the MTR stations… damn shame I can’t even read my native language.

Exit at Causeway Bay station should be D if I remember correctly. Whichever exit leads to Sogo basically. It’s also closer to the Wan Chai arcade than the exit from Wan Chai station since the place is smack between the Causeway Bay and Wan Chai area. To get there just go past GameMax and keep going down Hennessy Road past the fire station and the bank until you reach the 7-11. Can’t miss the smell.

Honestly there isn’t a single arcade in Hong Kong that has truly good parts that are in good condition. Every arcade has their own weakness whether it’s screen lag, crap parts, broken buttons, mushy joysticks, off-center seating position or just really smokey air. Basically it turns into a gamble every time you go, sometimes the conditoins are good, sometimes awful.

SmartGame in Mong Kok is probably the most consistently average in terms of both environment, competition, and parts.

The chances of getting your ass handed to you in Wanchai are quite high but it’s probably my least favorite place to go in terms of parts and environment (we nickname it Smoke City…)

I tend to go to GameMax in causeway more but lately I’ve been starting to notice the input lag. I hope they change their sticks soon too, crouching/jumping is vague…

Anyway, I’d probably be down for doing an arcade run together this weekend or something

Wait, can you be more specific? So the one in Wanchai is by Hennessy Road next to the 7-11? Do u have the exact address? I’ll plug it into my phone when I head out there, thanks. Where is the one at Causeway Bay? And are there 2 arcades in Mong Kok? The one I went to in Mong Kok was the one upstairs on the 2nd floor, couldn’t tech throws for the life of me since the buttons were jacked.

If you click, those are links to the google maps street view. I also posted a link to the Central Arcade location somewhere on page 4 of this thread.

The second floor arcade in MK is SmartGame. There’s another one in a basement called NewTown GameZone or something but the setups are rather crap. SmartGame is superior.

GGs to the folks (especially Arthur, not sure if you’re on here, though!) I played against tonight at the Wan Chai + Causeway Bay arcades…

Gamemax at Causeway Bay has the best cabs, IMO. The sticks there are exactly like the TE sticks… plus it’s a no-smoking area and it’s clean. I needed a gas mask at the Wan Chai arcade inhaling all the second hand smoke.

If any of you are heading to the Gamemax Arcade at Causeway Bay, hit me up and let me know, I’ll shoot you my number by PM. I have no plans for the next couple of days and will be free in the evenings.

Hey Jonathan, Kenny here. Great meeting you last night, its good to meet more english-speaking players around here lolz.
I’ll let you know what the players’ plan are on Friday

The arcade I’m talking about is next to the starbucks here: [http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&safe=off&q=cheung+sha+wan+plaza&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=357l3009l0l3114l20l13l0l1l1l0l145l1137l7.5l12l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&biw=1920&bih=995&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl

Also thanks to Ahgama for letting me know this thread actually exists.](‘http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&safe=off&q=cheung+sha+wan+plaza&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=357l3009l0l3114l20l13l0l1l1l0l145l1137l7.5l12l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&biw=1920&bih=995&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl’)

Hope the typhoon doesn’t interfere with any plans. HK Observatory says it will last the whole week.

Nice meeting y’all too, Kenny. :lame: that the typhoon will be here the entire week. So what do HK people do when the typhoon comes around, bunker down in their places? My plan to visit the Big Buddha on Lantau Island today is cancelled because of the typhoon. Anyone know if the arcades or anything in general will be open? I’ll try to stop by Gamemax at Causeway Bay… I don’t want to be stuck inside today :(.

No idea. From what I know all the shops are closed and the buses are not operating. I’m stuck in my dorm room rotting away.

MAKE IT RAINNNNNN

that’s 90 percent welcome to the usa

For real though I went down to the promenade along my apartment tower and got effing soaked by the waves. it was pretty fun.

I saw it just downgraded to a signal 3, does that mean the buses will start running again? We could feasibly have a get together tonight if anyone’s interested

yeah it’s down to 3 now, but i don’t know how fast buses will resume cuz i mean, nobody needs to get home; nobody went to work today, myself included

i’d be down to meet up, but i’m not really in the mood to cross the harbour haha

if anything, we can meet up tomorrow/this weekend

Buses are running again. I went down to Causeway just tonight. Just another normal night except Sogo was closed. Everything should be back to normal for tomorrow.

I don’t think I can make tomorrow because I’ve got dinner with my old man. Will be free this weekend though. Shall we go to Wan Chai and all get lung cancer or should we get ourselves even more broke by playing at Smart Game?

How was the competition there tonight? I was there earlier, from 5:30 to 7… hit me up if ure gonna play at Causeway next time.

After I got demolished repeatedly by Guy, this Bison came on and thrashed him so instead of eating elbows and slides I got headstomped and double kneed in the face instead. Guy was solid - good safe jump/crossup setups, solid execution, decent slide spacing but no footsies otherwise, good reads, and decent mixup. Had a bad habit of doing random (and I mean random, not wakeup) EX Hurricane Kick and U1 but otherwise he was solid.

Bison was better obviously. Good spacing and reactions with st. MK and st. HK, good SK traps and max range slide, baiting with Devil’s Reverse and teleport, punishing correctly and consistently, knew some setups such as meaty Psycho Crusher after LK Scissors, and okay mixup. He dropped the cr. LK -> st. LP -> cr. MK xx HK Scissor Kicks combo several times but otherwise he was solid.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, that Bison wasn’t you was it? I was the Gief/Fei player.
