Hit Box - We so S Tier1!

With 5 minutes, and $2 in parts, I can make one of a TE stick’s buttons do a SOCD in a way that is easily reversible and not externally visible. If tournament organizers want to proscribe SOCD capable controllers, and don’t trust the players to self-enforce, the only plausible way to do things would be to have tournament provided sticks and to ban outside sticks from the venue.

While some iffy stuff does happen in the heat of the moment, the happy truth is that people generally don’t want to cheat in the competitive fighting game scene. If fighting games become more about money than competition that may change, but, for now, it seems that the people who are interested in additional stick capability are primarily ones in single-player settings: people trying to cheat through trial and mission modes, combo makers, speed runners and system data collectors.

How long is the wait list?

Over 250 people last time I checked.

if i give u a cookie, can i move up a few hundred spots

Unfortunately it doesn’t work that way.

So the email that tells us to give you our money and addresses has in fact not yet been sent, correct?

We are going on an individual basis, so when your box is ready to go we’ll let you know.

What problems do SOCDs cause in ssf4? I don’t think you can block both ways like you could in MvC3.

Regular PC SF4 is set so that the more recent direction always takes precedence, until released. For example if you hold left, then press right, right will register, but it will switch back to left as soon as you let go. This is pretty fun to use with Guile’s super/ultra, since it means you can execute it in two presses, which only takes a couple frames to input.

I assume SSF4 works similarly.

ahh Thanks. So as far as ssf4 goes, since it has a pc counterpart that does this i wont feel bad when my box doesnt make all socds neutral

Wrong. Forward takes precedence unless your keyboard’s PCB is set up otherwise.

Still this shouldnt cause any probems to gameplay since the pc port was made for directional imput and so on. I presume the console versions are the same in how they read SOCDs

SF4 and SSF4 both have Left+Right=forward, Up+Down=Up. There’s a SOCD testing thread somewhere around here…

I have a question, might be wrong about it because this is over my head.

To dual mod the PS3 hitbox, what kind of 360 PCB would it require to avoid the blocking on both sides problem in MvC3?

I guess I never tapped back while holding forward. Thanks for the correction.

The MadCatz TE/SE and PS360 PCBs both allow SOCD. I have not tested other PCBs.

New tutorial! Hit Box Lesson 1: The Layout

I had been thinking about picking up the official product, to support you guys, but I’m finally at a point in my educational career where I have to start managing my budget, TRANSFERRING TO UT AUSTIN IS EXPENSIVE YO, and I don’t know if I can justify it.

That said, best of luck to you guys, hope the product goes over well.

I agree, the hitboxes themselves are very reasonably priced, but when I factor in International Postage to the UK the price is just too much to handle.

What I wil do is make my own crappy version, see if I am good/hardore enough to enjoy using it, then I would buy a model from you guys if i liked it because your model would be much better quality.

So I should wait until they release the official dual modded version?
