Hi-Def Sprite thread (first post updated! 1/9)

Get the FUCK out PS, that owns so hard!

Nicole was so broke :lovin:~

i remember that game. my friends and i played that on an emulator. looks like you redid that background too. good shit:smokin:

first post updated and now in alphabetical order!

Wow! very nice!!!

LOL, wow dude, you just owned Udon…HARD.

Some of these are great and some are just horrible.

The Ken/Ryu KOFXII looking sprites are professional looking. You could trick someone into believing a screen shot with them.

now now be nice bebop

You don’t have to be an artist to know if something is of basic good quality or not.

there’s a lot of professional looking ones in here. well at least if you consider HDremix work-flow professional because that’s what most of us are using. kof12 may very well be one of the last “pixel” 2d fighters on a major scale. pixel art is not going to save 2d sprites in fighting games because the process is so long and becomes expensive in the long run. however, games like the latest wario on wii, HDremix, castle crashers, etc… are what makes 2d games profitable and less expensive than 3D grafx. so yeah, i’d consider a lot of stuff we show here “professional”.

Castle Crashers use 3D flat vectors for their “sprites”. They look really nice but I don’t think they are a flat image like HDR (Unless someone proves me wrong because I’m not sure I’m right on this).

Anyone think the original SFIII sprites where done over 3D models like KOFXII/BlazBlue?

nothing about sf3 looks 3D at all. if they did then there was no visual benefit. it looks all handrawn to me. you never know though. be interesting to know for sure

pootnannies:

Do you plan on rounding out the SF3 cast? If so, Hugo would just be amazing to me; he has some really funny sprites, and also some mean-lookin’ ones.

12 is probably the most interesting, visually; he might have the most sprites (excluding X.C.O.P.Y.)

and Elena is just…well, I can’t imagine it being easy to draw her sprites on a bigger scale

cheers to whatever you’re on!

Well, the animation could have been rotoscoped. Certainly some of it does look like it was, such as Elena’s neutral standing animation. But it’s difficult to tell if it was based off a live model or 3D model. After all, the Kyosuke sprites in CvS2 were based off his preexisting 3D model, but they could have just as well used a live model. If it wasn’t rotoscoped at all then I’d be impressed.

But yeah, I don’t remember reading any official information on how they created their sprites.

Holy crap, pootnannies! That JoJo sprite is badass.

mario ftw! >.<

sick

lol, nice! first for a mario i believe:wgrin:

yeah i think many of elena’s animations are rotoscoped over 3D or live-action. don’t think most of the cast is. looks very 2Dish to me. just my opinion. i know there’s some sf3 mooks out there but don’t know if they mention anything about the art process for the games. i believe they’re all in japanese too.

not sure right now. i’ve come close to doing a hugo sprite many times but another will catch more of my interest. if i get time then i’ll do him next. he’ll take a little longer than the others i’ve done.

thank you

Request for pootnannies: please juni and juli next!
(As HD as possible, I hate that there is no full-body official art of them!)

i can’t make any promises. i’m behind on requests. i’m about halfway through with a colossus request and i have another one afterwards so i will be a long wait.

worth the wait!
hypothetically though, if I was impatient do you accept comish?
