You can combo off mid screen joudan kicks with wave dash medium or jabs. Vs big characters you can just do one dash to medium pretty easily to combo. This of course also means you can do shin shoryuken mid screen to joudan kick then to wave dash in combo…

Just posting this cuz I thought I heard you cant combo off mid screen shin shoryuken or joudan wiht anything but shinkuu hadokens and thats deff not the case.

Seriously, people online are in love with tatsu. Can’t blame them though, it’s really good in this game.

Air tatsu L is pretty good to hit-confirm into combos.

Shinkuu is incredibly versatile, and I wouldn’t mind making a team that could kill two birds with one stone often enough.

So…I guess these Ryu threads won’t be updated any time soon, huh?

really nice combos in video thread courtesy of dialupsucky and trag - really need to get good at double wave-dashing with Ryu if we want to get good mileage out of Ryu’s BnB donkey kick.

Any tips on double wave-dashing consistently?

Dialupsucky has a video of Ryu comboing air shin hadou from any throw - air throw timing is really easy (very easy BnB combo after air throw), front throw timing is pretty tight, but back-throw timing is almost impossible for me to do.

Question on the 2nd vid you have: in the combo against Trish and Ryu, how were you able to continue your combo after landing L tatsu?
Are you actually using air tatsu in the combo? If so, can you give me a tip on comboing into air tatsu from the ground?

Im doing ground tatsu for those generally. Depending on character/setup/how far along the combo is you can link mediums instead of jabs… And I wouldn’t be suprised if theres some combo video set ups that allow you to get a hard somehow. Or maybe even a straight launcher?

As for the throws, I was just ghetto and did DP wiff to super. Didn’t even bother tiger kneeing it. lol To bad you don’t build meter doing that, I had a idea for a 7 meter super with that, but then realized you don’t build meter unless it hits… Although I was thinking since you seem to be able to super cancel at any time you probably could be pretty ghetto/scrubby with moves even like thrust kick that has long recovery. Say it wiffs, if you have level 3 maybe opponent would be hesitant to even try to punish it since you could just cancel it with shin shoryuken into instant kill combo ha…

As for double wave dash, no tips its hard… The ending combo vs cap in the first video is a double wave dash it has to be reaaaaaaaaally fast. I do 2 buttons down really quick 2 buttons jab… You can actually get mediums as well… But again its not easy going in the least. shrug… So yea I really have no tips on it… I only played the game randomly in training mode when I got it yesterday so im no expert by any means… lol I just read that ryu sucks, and stratagy guide says he cant combo mid screen so I wanted to see if I could proove it wrong. No more no less. So I have no real advice gameplay wise lol.

If Ryu players can consistently do the double wave dashing, then they have a consistent BnB combo from anywhere in the screen that does 500+ dmg meterless.

Are u double wavedashing for all the combos or just the ones with cap an ryu? More we need learn DW right??

I do not know if this is useful but i just figured out that you can kara cancel his srk and special moves from forward st.H and other normals.

So I was using Ryu as an assist and go-to DHC character. Now I’m trying to get used to playing him on point.
Are there any tips to being able to land his DP to Up Shinku Hadoken? I don’t think I’m canceling fast enough, so I’m always off the ground, and thus I can’t aim the beam up…

He is good at punishing just about any whiffed super and loads of whiffed normals. Not just assists. The pay out for killing an assist while killing or nearly killing their point character at the same time is HUGE, well worth having him on point.

The team I have bee playing with a lot is Ryu/Morrigan/Hulk. Morrigan’s meter assist is great. I always have meter for just about any opportunity that arises.

Tatsu > hyper instead, unless you want them in the air for some reason.

Quick question, I don’t have the guide and was wondering if someone could answer this for me.

Does the air shinku have less startup than a ground one or are they the same? (I assume it does have a quicker startup but am not sure)

Because if so it seems better to just use the air shinku hadouken beam in all instances aside from aiming upwards

I’ve been using ryu second on my team so far, I’ve found him to be excellent to have after having my point character (Dante in this case) build up meter for him. Ryu is deadly with some meter

well so far I have been using Ryu as an ender character and its been working great. Someone who really can build meter really fast should be on point My team is actually Dante, Zero, and Ryu I actually use him like I would Phoenix, except you can get into people’s faces and can do just about the same amount of damage. Plus you can keep your meter for the Shinkuu Beam Spam or 1 huge X-Factored combo.

Im so new to MvC (the series not just 3) so i’ve been refraining from posting out of fear of saying something so obvious or redundant, so take it easy on me if I say something ridiculously basic.

So with that out of the way, does Ryu have any OTG moves we can use to extend combos?

The only OTG he has is downward Shinkuu, as far as I’m aware.
