Help with diagnosing and stopping lag on SFIV PC

Only potentially another mobile in my house and that’s only when someone is in. Oh and the TV however the T has been like it before I even started playing street fighter so I don’t see why that would be creating an issue now.

Is there a way to check which devices are currently connected to the router?

I don’t upgrade because it costs money to upgrade to windows 8 unfortunately. I know it didn’t to windows 10 but some of my friends have had issues with it so steering clear for now.

I’ll try adding it to the exceptions list in case that makes a difference later.

To check what’s currently connected to the router, you have to open your router configuration inside your web browser. You do that by typing in your default gateway IP into your web browser (you can find your default gateway by running “cmd” from the run menu, then typing in “ipconfig”). If you need a password, the default login info should be on a label on the bottom of your router. You can then view what’s connected by clicking on something like “Wireless Statistics” or “DHCP -> Clients List”.

I have been getting the lag again but this time on Xbox360. Played 5 endless rounds and each one was flled with lag. I joined like 2-3 different rooms to see if it was just a bad connection between me and the players and it wasn’t.

I was watching my Amazon Fire TV on my TV while playing also.

So I asked my friend (who is a Network Admin and knows alot about this type of stuff) what could be causing my lag. I told him I had an Amazon Fire TV and he showed me something interesting here

It seems like my Fire TV Stick is constantly downloading things in the background to accommodate my taste in tv shows.

This explains why when I unplugged it and restarted my router that the lag has gone away.

This might not be the case with you @Sure-ryu-can but it could be worth checking into what apps on your PC, TV, tablet and/or cell phone could be using bandwidth without you knowing.

That goes back to my statement of "Is anyone doing heavy duty downloading in your house?"
Also there could be a device on the network with a “chattering” Network interface, as it a Network interface card/module that is constantly “talking” on the network causing high amount of local network traffic.

That also goes back to seeing what’s connected to the router. There should be viewable statistics in almost realtime about what’s sending/receiving packets, and how much. I’ve gone onto my router to investigate slow buffering on a streaming service, only to see a high number under “packets received” next to the MAC address for my brother’s phone.

Well it seems like I have quite a few things connected. The lag was actually okay when I was playing yesterday, played a few guys from italy and turkey and there was no lag.

I checked the router today and there are a couple of phones one being mine (but I always turn that off while playing just in case), a couple of tablets though they aren’t turned on but it still says connected?, and 2 other things that have codes so I don;t know what they are. I think one may be the downstairs TV.

If it starts going bad again I’ll take your adivce into account, I’ll disconnect the TV and check every device I can think of in case it is doing some background downloads.

Reporting back after some testing and setting up my router a bit.

I changed my WMM QoS settings for all my Wi-Fi traffic. I basically nerfed the amount of bandwidth my Wi-Fi allows to my wireless devices on my wireless network.

Played on Xbox Live for about 3-4 hours today with no abnormal lag, unless I was playing a player who was on wireless himself. But about 95% of my matches were smooth as they possibly could be.

I still have to adjust the settings because I have nerfed the bandwidth for my wireless stuff a bit too hard and now when I watch streams on my tv (Twitch.tv or Netflix) the video buffers and lags sometimes. I also disabled my phone’s wifi when I play since I’m not using it for anything.
