Winners don’t do drugs…
i’m a smoker myself. its hard… i have not been able to quit regardless of what i tried. You can try nicotine gum + a cigar, cigars have the same taste and you only need like two puffs to calm your nerves. It’s worked for some, but not for me. You can try all the substitutes, have all the articles to remind you why you should quit, but It takes real strong will power at the end of the day.
I’m thinking of going to therapy on addictions or something.
Thanks guys, I’m making this attempt be the last and final one, so I absolutely appreciate a lot of these tips and suggestions. I’ll probably look over this thread again this weekend and take some notes, a few of the responses really stood out to me. Though I am for sure going cold turkey. I can’t do the gradual step down method as I’ve already tried that, it didn’t do shit except slow my spending on smokes for a small time frame before saying f-it and going back to how I was.
I can see the next few weeks are going to be rough, but I am confident that I can pull through this.
Thanks!
just to point out. My uncle did cold turkey (successfully), but that shit is really hard. according to him and the others that managed to quit; during the second week, you’ll start extracting out the nicotine from your mouth and also from your nose at times. It’s like you’ll have a cold… you’ll also feel sick (as if you’re having a bad flu) because your body is seriously demanding for the cigarette. My uncle said that he used cigars as a helper on quiting, he just took two puffs (no inhaling) and he was all good.
whenever you crave just distract yourself with something
i would just slightly increase the time i would go with out one more and more before you know it i couldn’t stand smoking
just remember something. once you have your last cigarette, that’s it.
you aren’t “trying” to quit anymore. you quit smoking. it’s over with. you’re no longer a smoker. there is no more trying involved, there’s no more excuses, ‘well i can have just this one, special occasion’ none of that bullshit. you aren’t a smoker anymore. that adjective is fucking burned away from you.
I like this picture a lot too. it helped me quit.
I successfully quit cold turkey 3 years ago after smoking fairly heavily (1 pack every 2 days) for 3-4 years. It was definitely hard to break the habit for me, especially while driving (since I smoked every time I drove). After about two weeks of no smoking at all, it started to get a lot easier. I broke down about a month after quitting and took a hit off a cigarette. To my surprise, it tasted horrible and I immediately put it out. Haven’t looked back :).
Try gum, peppermints or some other hard candy every time you’re craving, it really seemed to help me. As for gaining weight, I did gain about 5 lbs when I quit, but lost it without really trying over the next few months.
Good luck man, it’s tough, but you seem dedicated enough to succeed. Keep us updated on your progress!
Every time you smoke, message me and I’ll send you a picture of me licking my own nipple. I’m a 300 lb white man. You’ll stop smoking within a week.
ya, thanks for this. I’m inspired to quit… it’s just really hard during after meals (the crave is intense when your stomach is full), and also during shit breaks.
Instead of smoking, eat something delicious.
I have no real wisdom to add, but I certainly want to wish you the best of luck! My family experiences tell me its not easy but I hope you succeed!
Same thing here, it’s really all in the mind, and I did gain a few pounds, but I dropped it pretty easily
One of my former coworkers said that he quit by eating cloves or something. 'Told me it had an effect that whenever he tried to smoke a cigarette, that it would make it taste horrible to the point where he just didn’t want to smoke it. 'Not sure if that actually works, but it’s something you can try I suppose.
Just telling yourself “I’m going to quit smoking today!” doesn’t work for everyone.
While on military deployment I was dipping and smoking a lot – a whole lot. I decided that I didn’t want to keep using tobacco ( I had used it for years prior to deployment and started again once I arrived). After a few months I bought some Nicorette lozenges and while I won’t say that they decidedly made me stop smoking, they helped tremendously with nicotine urges. I don’t know how anyone else feels who has tried them, but I believe they are very efficient at curbing one’s cravings. And also as someone else mentioned, as much as you may not want to do it, you need to avoid your smoking friends when they smoke. Don’t sit out at the smoke pit: you are putting yourself at a heightened risk.
Good luck in your endeavors. Honestly though, if you can cut down to one or two cigs a month, or less, I don’t think that you will ever experience any serious health complications.
Hi there.
I faced this problem too. I had so long and exhausting way to quit smoking. I can’t say that I’m already managed to do that fully.
It was quite difficult for me to stop smoking at all. I’vee looked through different resources and came to the Vapingdaily.
I’ve decided to try vaping. Anyway, it’s a good alternative for people like me.
I vape rarely now, I still need some dose of nicotine, but the general consumption of it per day or per week is much much less.
So maybe you should try vaping too. It can help you. But of course not to abuse.
surprised no one has mentioned this yet
This is something the NHS over here offers for free. There is a bunch of free info on the website https://www.nhs.uk/smokefree
