It does depend on what you grew up with. But to be honest, the keyboard is pretty easy if you put make it HitBox style where you have the up on the space bar. Most KB users grew up using the WASD format, and it was hell on your fingers executing 360 moves in strict command inputs like in SF2. Though games like SF4 is alot easier to execute in.
As for the TC, go with the HitBox controller dude. I’m a KB user myself and I’m considering of getting one as well. Either that or just get a good keyboard like choc mini. It takes a while to get good with the stick, give it 2 weeks and you’ll somewhat get it. Problems you’ll try to overcome later on are specific side dashes, 360 moves, and fast execution of supers.
Dont worry man, still happens too justing wong every tournament he goes to nowadays
Well, turned back to this after some time. Now for 2 days I’ve only been playing with stick. So no online for me for awhile.
But I just wonder, does it improve your gameplay? When you get comfortable with stick and get used to it completely do you play better than the previous instrument you were comfortable with (keyboard/pad) ? Or its just because arcade stick is the tradition of fighting games that everyone plays with them?
And seriously I am just grateful I’m not using a command char. I can’t still make a SRK, but completed Vega’s trials with the stick.
To do an SRK with a stick just hit down-forward twice + punch.

i still think you should stick to keyboard or hitbox
just my 2 cents
Why would you think that and shatter my EVO dreams
Seriously, people make fun of me for still playing with a keyboard. You are the only person that says “stick to keyboard”. Why? Does it not matter that much?

not really. I still play with a 6 button pad.
unless you’re having execution problems, or you really have a need to switch… in this game it doesnt really matter. In something liek CvS2 or HDR or A3 it does because the pace of the game is so much faster…
because SSF4 is so slow it’s really irrelevant on what you use. If you’re comfy sticking on keyboard stick with it and work on other things like strategy, footsies, etc. Adding execution to the mix just makes things harder for you in the near term.
Besides… it’s more fun to see something different than something that everyone else uses. So in the event you make it on stream it works out better… (for me at least)
btw there’s no requirement that says you cannot use a keyboard at evo.

SFIV doesnt recognize the keyboard (not on PS3 at least)
When I plugged my keyboard on the console, browsed in the internet with it, and then went to play SF and that shit just didnt worked, I almost cried.

i’m sure if you check the tech thread there’s someone that can do one up for you with any button config you want. You may not be able to type with it but as for playing the game it should be fairly easy
I must say, I’m very surprised here. I can pull every frigging link much more easily with arcade stick. The 2 frames, they never miss. And the ratio of the success of 1 frames is much higher. But this is thanks to the buttons on the stick. The sense of direction though is very wierd. I guess that thing I see sometimes, that device which has buttons for directions, would be the perfect thing for me. But I don’t even know its name :S
This. But why the fuck is the “up” button at the bottom? :S

called a HitBox
and down being used by thumb is more finger friendly. you’re going to be using up far less than down. and the way your hand is positioned it’s easier to hold the middle finger down than the thumb. It also makes doing motions with down easier. There’s not a lot of motions that involve up but loads that involve down.
That’s the theory behind it anyway. I imagine it’s a 5 minute swap if you wanted up as the middle finger button though.
I gave up this Arcade Stick idea, just to let it out. With it, I can link 1 frames but I cannot still do a back dash. This stick is just against my nature and my sense of direction
I realised I don’t even want to play the game because of it. So, back to keyboard. Maybe I’ll buy a hitbox sometime. Anyway, I cannot be a pro with no offline scene in Turkey anyway

move to a place with a scene…
and just stick with keyboard. You only need to swtich if keyboard isnt working.

What if you want to join tournaments?
I’am not aware about Xbox360, but you can’t use keyboard to play SSFIVAE on PS3. The game doesnt support it.

wouldnt be hard to mod one up however you see fit for either system
or expensive… other than the cost of the keyboard and a controller

Can you please explain it a bit further?
I would LOVE to play SF on PS3 using my keyboard.

well you just stick a controller or fightstick pcb into it and map each button to the corresponding key you want. hit up
http://www.gummowned.com/
that’s who I go to when I’m too lazy to do stuff. top notch work and fair prices.
I’d offer to do it myself but I’m taking 4 classes this quarter so i’d end up taking forever to get it done

PCB ?
Can a guy that has ZERO experience on modding do that?
Me?
If yes, there is some tutorial that can teach me how to do it?
And I am from Brazil, ergo send my keyboard to you would be too expensive.

it’s possible but i don’t recommend it. You’ll need to learn how to solder and have the equipment.
It’s very basic for someone like me but if you have zero experience chances are you’re going to mess something up and end up buying new components.
The next best solution is to simply purchase a keyboard in the US and have it shipped to gummo. then just tell him what you want and have him ship it to you. shouldnt be more than $20-30 to ship it to brazil. That’s about how much it cost to ship back and forth to germany from here.
