Hello, from Arcade-In-A-Box (10% Off Coupon SRK10)

I will start asking people after they order how they want the buttons wired.

Thanks for the advice on the button placement, I’ll take it into consideration when I get the chance to draw up new designs.

Hey Ed, I was wondering if it’s possible to get the Jamma in a Box to be modified into a “Arcade-In-A-Box Arcade Console”.

I’d might be interested in just a blank unit with all the ports (exhaust fans, audio/video/power ports), the custom overlay, and the joysticks and buttons pre-installed, and I’ll just add my own ipac and computer guts.

Would you want the CD-Rom slot cutout in the side? I think that might be the only thing that would make it tough, considering the amount of room the CDrom takes on the inside of the box. I think without it, there would be enough room to fit the other PC components.

No, the only ports I need are the Video/Audio, power switch, power plug, usb ports, exhaust fans. Pretty all the ports minus the CDROM drive port. Plus the custom overlay and the joysticks and buttons preinstalled.

I plan on just having a miniATX motherboard inside (cpu+heatsink/ram), with just a power supply and the Hard Drive. I plan on doing all the pre-install work done, and just install the guts once everything is configured, and any upgrades will be done via external HDD/USB key/SATA/IDE-to-USB adaptor and I’ll have a wireless keyboard and mouse on the unit.

I dunno, if my budget allows, I might hit you up for something like this in Feb, closer to my birthday. I’m just wondering if, it’s possible that you can do pretty much a 1/2 unit and ship it out a reduced rate and how much that would come out to roughly, so I can get an estimate.

EDIT:
Also, I was wondering if you can also do the single xbox360 blank CP units with the custom overlay, with the joystick and buttons preinstalled, I can do my own wiring with my own PCB, and how much something like that would cost. I might a few of these instead of the mame-in-a-box.

If I can’t get the mame-in-a-box unit in the spring, I know for sure I’ll hit you up for at least 1 single player blank xbox360 unit, in the next week or so.

Just shoot me an email when you are ready and we can figure out the costs. ed.farias at arcadeinabox.com

I’d be glad to help you out. Feb is better for me as well :).

Ed

a couple questions for Ed or others who might know.

  • the standard joystick is a HAPP Competion right?

-the standard buttons are HAPP as well

-the size of this thing is massive. are there any plans for a smaller version? not as small as the hori types but maybe the size of the pelican joysticks.

would you be up for making a custom sized one? maybe half the height or something

edit:
i found this video review on youtube

I am so looking forward to this. It looks about the same size/weight of the SFAC Stick and for me that is a good thing. Also with a 1 year warrenty it is tempting. I wish it wasn’t so much but I may have to seriously consider it. Expect a PM or order in a couple days.

With the new SF4 coming out, and I am still a 3s player this will help a lot. That small Hori VF5 stick isn’t doing much to help me in my game.

  1. Correct
  2. Correct
  3. Not at the current time. Making it smaller will only lessen the true arcade feel, in my opinion. This stick is really designed to be played on a table or chair, not for your lap.
  4. Possibly

Sounds good.

www.ArcadeInABox.com is the best thing to hit the net since…uh, porn!

Kidding aside, this is your one stop shop for 360 sticks, and soon PS3 sticks.

I encourage EVERYONE who plays SF & MK (espcially on XBL or Kaiileera/Mame) to buy one ASAP.

Remember, 2-d fighting games were meant for sticks, not sorry ass pads!!!

Why would you anyone want to buy a PS3 stick? There are lag free “PS2 to everything except for Xbox 360” adapters. Now go take your ritalin.

Yea…he sounds too much like a paid employee to me. Ed_Farias is doing a fine job selling his product. He does not need a OMG THIS PLACE IS GREAT & NO I DO NOT WORK FOR HIM guy.

If not I am sorry, but it sounds too scripted. Almost makes me not want to buy to be honest. I hate that kind of fake hype stuff, let your product speak for itself.

PLUS:

Checking his post he seems to be spamming the MK3 board with his website. Three out of four of his post have the same tagline for a certain MK3 site…ugh.

Hey Sorry about that guys (man these snowflakes make it hard to type with Opera). Anyway, Tim doesn’t work for me, I promise. He’s just a happy customer.

Again, I do apologize. I’ve sent him an email asking him to stop. I wasn’t aware this was going on.

Ed

I’m dealing with a lot emails today from people requesting ps3 sticks. I’m still planning on launching a ps2 stick next month, and I had plans to launch a ps3 stick as well. I assume it would be better to just go ps2 and then sell the adapters for ps3 compatibility.

Does that sound like a good approach?

What is the best adapter out there?

Thanks for the feedback all.

No I dont work for Ed. But yes, a happy customer and I want everybody else to feel the same joy I had. Sorry you have to express yourself that way instead of just sending me a PM to tell. And just so you know, I work 3rd shift at a bowling alley. (Palace Lanes)

But yeah, I am a MK with a strong foundation in Capcom and SNK games, but new to this forum.

But thanks for the typical SRK welcome. I feel like a regular already
:wgrin:

Because me and a number of other people would like one. Thanks!

Ed is you don’t mind me asking, whats your nationality, your last name sounds local, to where I was born. Also great sticks, and cool you got featured in IGN, maybe they’ll feature me one day

Portuguese

My Mother is from Portugal, as are my great grandparents on my father’s side.

Is it close?

On the other subject, please, let’s not turn this thread into a pissing contest. Much appreciated :).

very I am Brazilian, hehe, though heritage wise family is from Italy. Did you contact IGN, or did they get in touch with ya. I build custom sticks myself, though we are in no way competitors, you are doing what I would do, if I had alot of capital, so no worries hehe ;), so I just tailor to the other niche that want something even more personal. But overall I like your designs, and think you nailed right on the money.

Ironically though IGN misquoted, when they said Sanwa buttons, I am like errr ;). I saw you catch that, I also praised ya over there, so hopefully you get some support.

Exactly what I was tryin to do with good ol’ Ed.

Hopefully, this will start a movement of the old arcades, andmaybe convince more people 2-D fighters arent dead.

Yup, my Mom lived in Brazil for a while before they migrated to Boston.

My marketing guy actually sent out a press release a few months back announcing the stick and I got about 40 emails from places requesting review units. I only have 3 review units made, so I had to pick and choose who got them first. Geek.com, IGN and Official Xbox Magazine.

You can contact them directly though. I have Gerry’s email (the guy that reviewed the stick) if you want it.

I need to warn you though, if you are doing this as a hobby it might get a little overwhelming. I do it full time 40-50 hours a week. As you know, building custom sticks can be a little time consuming. Always give the customers a realistic ETA on delivery right up front. Mine is always 2-3 weeks and I currently have 15 orders to fill. If that gives you some kind of idea :).

Getting reviewed on a big site is pretty awesome, but be prepared, especially to spend the time answering a lot of emails :).

Good luck.
