Hearthstone - That other, other, other Blizzard game

No surprise there. Everyone tailoring to anti-aggro means control and tempo can just come on through.

Mini tirion showed up in my game today

What do your control pally decks look like? I still haven’t messed with mine since gvg

Me (Paladin) vs. two different Rogue players.

Game 2.

can’t say that I regret crafting him now.

Can you show us your deck list? I still need to tweak my control Paladin deck, having too much fun with demon lock

I was losing badly as a mage in arena last night. Priest opponent had 28 health to my 11 and a big board. I played Abomination on turn 7 and used my last 2 mana to play Unstable Portal. I got Tirion.

Turn 8, Tirion + duplicate.

Turn 9, Tirion

Turn 10, Tirion

I won.

Put your faith in the light!

I AM THE WORST ARENA PLAYER

My Control Pally is still under construction because I’m still finding place for the new cards, but I’ll post my deck list. I went from 14 -> 7 in a single day, without really losing except randomly to a zoo player who beat me in 5 turns. I’ll provide updates for what works/not working as it happens (as soon as I can, I’m crafting Greenskin. I think he might be the most under-rated card in the new Control Pally.)

As soon as I hit ranks 5-1, this deck needs to be modified a bit. Some of it is built around dealing with bad players playing good decks.

Decks name is ā€˜Bret Hart’ because you work over your opponent until they submit:

2 x Equality
1 x Knife Juggle
2 x minibot
2 x pyromancer
2 x muster
2 x aldor
1 x BGH
2 x truesilver
2 x concercration
1 x kezan mystic
1 x antique healbot
1 x azure drake
1 x harrison jones
1 x loatheb
2 x quarter master
1 x sludge beltcher
1 x TBK
1 x guardian
1 x lay on hands
1 x rag
1 x tirion
1 x alex

Some of the tech choices probably seem weird without explanation, throw the questions at me if you have them.

Basics of the deck are to use your strong early game with muster , bots an juggler to make opponent over-commit, and then use your higher quality cards to simply roll them over.

The deck eats low tech straight rush decks (face hunter, zoo) alive, because of the heals, AOE, and cost effective minions.

Probably goes even with control warrior, with the most important card being harrison. Goes even with Handlock, unless he’s clued on to what you are doing and saves his AOE for muster/QM combo, in which case you might be screwed.

The regular stuff like freeze mage, deathrattle hunter and priest, control shaman and the like all lose to it.

The surprise tech of kezan will really fuck with secret mage, and even screw over the strong early game of hunter.

The true late game focused decks, like late game priests, or ressurection shaman, will probably fuck you up, because you lack the early game burst to beat them before you start trading high quality cards.

You also have some massive heals. Unless you’re dealing with the 20 damage in 1 turn combo decks, it is really difficult to die with this deck. If you have cards in hand, you’ll probably survive another turn.

Mechwarper is a fair card yoh!

I tried Madder Bomber in arena today. A turn after I played the 4/4 and 2/2 SQUIRE.

Guess who it killed.

you usually want to play madder bomber when you’re behind to catch up. the risk/reward is bad otherwise.

Also back to infinite maybe? last 6 runs i’ve gone 6, 7, 3, 9, 10, 12, with a few good runs before that that keep me over 70%.

No fireball no flamestrike mage just got me 12. Apparently freezing weapon classes for 5-9 turns in a row and playing polymorph on all relevant threats is good.

Also finally pulled a darkbomb, only took 57 packs

I get two Fireballs, Unstable Portal, Mad Scientist plays and a strong curve. 6 Wins. What the hell do I have to do to make it past 7?

This little bastard here got me to 11 in Arena.

And bonus:

Curve matters way less because threats are less predictable and it’s easier to restock your hand with a few classes. Tempo and raw power matter so much now, and water elemental is probably mage’s best card now because it gives you both.

It’s also card advantage, fuck that card.

I dispute your claim.

Arena seems to have moved away from ā€˜have the better quality cards’, to ā€˜have the fastest way to kill your opponent.’

Stocking up on quality 2 and 3 drops over the higher value cards has done wonders for my arena runs.

Mine isn’t really control, more midrange, but this is what Im running now:

I keep changing the knife juggler slot; I was running argent protector (gives divine shield) but dropped it for scarlet purifier, and now I switched that to knife juggler because I needed a 2 drop. Its my most consistent deck I currently run. My idea was to do a ā€œwhite weenieā€ deck from magic, thats why I have the stormwind champions, you drop that with 2 guys on the board and the value is amazing. Of course if I had tirion I’d drop 1 for him, or maybe drop blessing of kings… possibly coghammer.

I even had 2 Water Elementals.

But yeah, I guess it’s all about the rush. First Arena game I lost due to the opponent having THREE FUCKING POLYMORPHS. Second one was a guy somehow blessed by the Hearthstone gods into basically getting Constructed Face Hunter. In both cases, I had stabilized the board but basically lost to Hero Ability. Also in both cases, I had an Ice Barrier out that never went off (and if it had, I probably win both of those games). Last game I lost to Priest. He opens Northshire, I go into Snowchugger (I figured, let him have the 1 draw and I can take care of the Northshire next turn for the Tempo). Then he goes Inner Fire and I never recovered.
