Actually every 10db is perceived to be ~twice as loud to our ears, so it is a big difference.
We got a sneak peek testing from d3v on last night’s Tech Talk Hangout. :lovin:
Will these new buttons be able to fit in existing arcade sticks?
They are 30mms, so they should.
Pei is working with some of us testers to make sure that there are as little issues as possible
It’s actually not just the loudness, but the sound it makes. The “slaplaplap” of Sanwa’s is rather harsh. The muffled sound from the HBFS-30 is softer, the feel is softer as well, less of an impact on your fingers.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, the blue Cherry’s are louder due to the “click” and hit an average peak of about 103dB (I had to do multiple tests and the noise level kept going up and down). That said, the noise is still not as “harsh” as that of the Sanwas.
This is what I get for not being on G+ hangout. d3v is testing them now? Sweet. Forget the sound, how do they feel as opposed to your regular Sanwa buttons? My guess is it’s just liek a mechanical keyboard, which should be freaking awesome (and possibly better for old Happ players than the OSB-M1 buttons, as crazy as that sounds)
Additional testing, noise levels from approx. 1ft. away.
Sanwa OBSF-30: 105dB
Seimitsu PS-14-KN: 105dB
HBFS-30 (Cherry MX Red): 84dB
HBFS-30 (Cherry MX Blue): 90dB
Also, from approx. 3ft away.
Sanwa OBSF-30: 89dB
Seimitsu PS-14-KN: 92dB
HBFS-30 (Cherry MX Red): 70dB
HBFS-30 (Cherry MX Blue): 75dB
In other words the harsh, plastic on plastic, sound made by the Sanwa and Seimitsu buttons travels further than that of the cushioned HBFS. This is important since you’re girlfriend/wife/toddler isn’t always in close proximity to the stick. They might not even be in the same room so how far the sound travels is important.
Also, red’s feel like regular Sanwas, blues have a noticeable keyboard-like click.
How do the blue’s compare to OG Cherry Switches? Is the Tactile bump noticeable at all?
I don’t have a frame of reference to this since it’s been forever since I’ve used buttons with OG Cherry switches. I will say though that the bump is noticeable enough.
i feel a little bit more at ease knowing d3v is testing these new buttons. i just hope my contribution isn’t part of scam you know…
Pledged this morning. Can’t wait to try them out.
I’m really looking forward to get some of these awesome buttons
Test results on the front page.
Good stuff, d3v =]
Can’t wait to receive mine!
Noticed you didnt place a link in the main article to the campaign itself. Might help
That might be seen as “promoting it” which we aren’t supposed to do. There’s a link to the thread anyhow.
So if you get the The Professional set for this thing it says you get two types of keyswitches, but there are four kinds. How do we choose which ones we get? Or is it a set thing (red and blue I assume?) I’m mostly interested in the blue ones, as tactile response on buttons sounds awesome.
You can specify when ordering. Comment section i believe. I personally went for browns. Damn the wait.
Sweet, gonna try the blues and the browns then. Also I think the octagonal borders of these looks sweeeeeeet.
Just Ordered Double Profesional for that double dick action. Most likely running black and blues
Coming from a PC background I’ve been waiting on MX arcade switches for a long time. I went for red and brown. I’m chomping at the bit to do my first ever mod!
