One day, I hope jakob plays in a tournament and I don’t have to read about it being a character or matchup that beat him. Sickness and fatigue are understandable, but this character whining gets old

Daigo Umehara in SPA!
Recently, Daigo Umehara had an article on SPA!, a well-known weekly news magazine in Japan.
Summary
- The title of the article is “Pro gamer job”
- They recognized him as “God of fighting game world” and “Japan’s first pro [fighting] gamer.”
- Umehara explained what he does as a pro gamer. Winning prize money from tournaments, appearances in events, contract with Mad Catz.
- Although the main target is America, he went to many countries. He said he went abroad probably 11 times last year. He also went to Kuwait. There’re offers from South Korea, China, and Thailand as well.
- He talked about Evolution. There’re around 5,000 attendees at the venue. He couldn’t even see the entrance from the stage.
- He said Evo’s prize money for the champion is around $18,000. (Beast Note: probably Evo 2010)
- He doesn’t plan to live in America, he wants to stay in Japan where [the competition] is in the world’s highest level. To be more specific, Tokyo players are in the highest level. He added that America doesn’t have a place [such as game center where high level players come to play together].
- Last year in SSF4 era, he practiced 13 hours a day at home. But this year, it’s 6-7 hours a day at the game center.
- They also interviewed Hiroaki Inaba (GODSGARDEN cofounder). The topic was “fighting game tournament boom.”
- GODSGARDEN 4 has more unique visitors than Hikaru Utada’s concert on Ustream. 450,000 to 345,000.
- Inaba-san said GG is different from other tournaments. It focuses on entertaining rather than looking for whos’s the best. The players play important part. And thanks to a player like Daigo Umehara, “to defeat the god” became part of it. He also revealed that the next event will be at the end of this year.

the only problem with this theory, is that it gives absolute credit to the writers. this is a common problem with a lot of literature and media theorys presented by the fans. for you to buy into this you have to take for granteed that human error is very low in the story telling process and everything is planned out. happens a lot for works all over.
david linch works, for example are notorious for starting these debates, ulysses etc. i would argue from experience with plot degredation especialy in long running series by notable authors (arguably notable) like S. King that even highly regarded story tellers are often un able to tie up a story and often an open ended finish occurs without any deep meaning that fans superimpose and retcon on to it.
its fun to speculate tho. similar to the end of fft, is what oland sees real or just in his mind?

Kota - that was funny. Marvel results are too random, xfactor makes results crazy. Unlike sf, you can blatantly tell skill differences a lot of times, and ppl still lose to stupid stuff. sigh

Ya’ll making me feel bad because I had a saturn… I was able to get a psx emulator on my phone so i may play some of those rpgs… might start with saga frontier

Speaking of Saturns, if you have XBL you might want to look into getting Guardian Heroes HD this week when it drops.
It’s a side scrolling beat em up / RPG. It’s one of the only Saturn games that really shined IMO. It has 3 planes where you lock your characters in and move between, so while in a plane you actually input traditional fighting game styled commands to do special moves with your characters. (mainly ghetto links and fireball motions, but it’s pretty substantial for a beat em up game)
It’s pretty crazy and a lot of fun. I spent most nights of a summer in high school playing the shit out of it when I was a 4-H counselor.

Bison-Honda is bad. Probably Bison’s worst matchup. I’d rather fight 5 Guiles than 1 Honda. You just have so much to worry about with Honda and not only do you have trouble landing the small damage, you have to land the small damage like 3 times for it to add up to 1 time Honda guesses right. Not to mention that Honda can punish all of Bison’s stuff (ex psycho/ex dr escapes) while Bison has to really guess to punish Honda. Bison doesn’t have the tools to play effectively against Honda.
This game changed my childhood, didn’t even realized it was being released again.

I also rocked Ginjirou (out of necessity at first) and then learned out the barrier trick with Nicole.
The whole cast is good is one of the great things about the game. If anyone else is picking it up and wants to do some online Co-Op or the Battle Free for All (12 people now lol) hit me up on XBL.
I bought them from Walmart when i was in there randomly. They’re like $20.
