Come on people. Honda has to be mentioned in the top 5 grab kings. I wouldn’t say he’s better than able, but with some jab into fierce hands and jab throws he has his own little mind games. Not to mention a new ultra.
Just because Abel loses the Gief matchup in Vanilla doesn’t mean he ain’t the King. In fact, Gief doesn’t really win in high level play with his grappling prowess; it’s mostly a footsies game. In a high level match of Gief vs ??? compared with Abel vs ???, you would generally expect Abel to get at least twice as many command grabs in than Gief.

Thawk’s moves give him more mobility but are terribly unsafe. Gief has better combos and a much better vortex then hawk.
have you guys watched vangief play in tournaments? he definitely knows how to play ssf4 zangief and just watching him walk up towards you is the scariest thing ever
This is basically it. Also Gief has hit confirmable combos (i.e. jab jab short ex greenhand), and t-hawk has no hit confirmable combos, which makes a huge difference at high level play.
To be honest you can always tell who scrubs are when they say something like “Isn’t T-hawk just a better version of Gief since he has a DP??”

No, his mobility is just as easily punished, and as mentioned in other threads, Gief’s oki game (a large part being tied into what other posters have already mentioned) as well is a whole nother class than THawk.
I guess my question is are we talking the best grappler from a ‘character tiering’ perspective, or best with a grappling gameplay? That is key…if we are talking grappler gameplay - with no QUESTION its Gief…if we are talking tiering, then I give hte nod to Abel…shrug Also are we talking verse each other or the whole cast?
