A few characters are so overpowered that everyone plays them anyways. But it will be fun to just pick random wacko teams and see how things go online.
MvC2 does not have a random character/team option right? It also doesn’t have a random assist assignment option either? Its been a long time since I played the game.
I know I would enjoy the game a ton more if everything was just randomized.
If you work out how many arcade units and console copies have been sold, and roughly how often on average a credit is played, you can see the total number of games player would exceed the number of possible teams by a HUGE amount.
The problem arises in trying to work out how often a player ‘randomly selects’ their team (there is no random select function, but well, you can look away and mash directions for a bit). It’s fairly obvious to me that nobody will have ever played a Shuma Gorath/Jin/Anakaris team unless it was selected randomly.
With what I would guess to be around 2 million copies of the game out there on arcade, PS2, Xbox, DC and various pirate copies, and 9 1/2 years of play, I’d say even if each copy was only played ONCE a year for ONE credit the 18,000,000 or so selections made would cover every combination.
Then you take into account all the thousands of kids who have never heard of the game before, see it on XBL and download it after “loaning” their parents CC to get MS points

Let’s assume a hardcore Marvel player plays something like 30 matches a day.
That’s only 594,360 instances of ‘gonna take u for a ride’!
Yeah, you’re right. I wasn’t paying attention to team order. Still 776,216 teams is a freakin’ lot of teams.
