Has anyone tried the new Hori Fighting Commander 3 Pro Pad yet?

Yeah, that’s what I was trying to say because I saw some reviews elsewhere listing that as a con which is really stupid. Another thing I saw as a con was the fact that it doesn’t work for 360 when it is a PS3 licensed controller. lol.

UPDATE
I’ve had the pad for a while now, I had stopped using it and let some friends use it to play Mortal Kombat 9. I recently got Street Fighter X Tekken and had another go with the Hori Fighting Commander 3 Pro and let me tell you… the pad has transformed into exactly what I hoped and dreamed it would be. It seems that it needed to be broken in. Not only that, my pad was on the “block” for the duration of time that I lent it out, and all kinds of players passed through, good players, horrible players, girls just trying, and dreaded controller molestors that look like they want to break buttons off when they play, had their way with the Hori Fighting Commander 3 Pro. Not only is it undamaged, but it seems to be getting even better. This has lead me to one conclusion…it’s…it’s a Gundam!

Understand that this controller has issues inputting the SHORYUKEN command. Is this not a glaring issue? No one is buying a dedicated pad for Mortal Kombat. I can’t believe that I took time to point this out. What are you recommending this for again? Large buttons? Firm sub-par DPAD? Nice weight? Fancy switch? Nice plastic smell? I wouldn’t give this controller the edge in anything, this is SHORYUKEN.com. It’s a well built, non-disposable plastic knife. Non-disposable cause I just can’t throw it away. It has no edge.

Agree it is a painful trying to consistently get shoryukens to register.

I think the thing is, execution varies per player. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not knocking anyone’s skill or anything, though.
I’ll admit that it’s by far no SNES or Saturn, in terms of D-pad. I’ve been playing Street Fighter since the SNES days as well. But despite that, I still have no issues pulling Dragon Punch motions on the Fighting Commander 3 Pro, so I can’t say that the controller has issues with the motion.
Do I think the D-pad is perfect? No, definitely not “perfect”, but it’s definitely not bad either. Have I had issues pulling the moves I need with it? Also no. Therefore, can I recommend this controller? Definitely.

I agree, I have 0 problems doing srk’s - it registers a DF motion even easier than the MCZ controllers do on the default df setting. Maybe he just isnt hitting down during his Z motion. Any pad takes time getting used to. I recommend as well.

I didn’t have a problem doing SRKs. The pad takes time to get used to.

Sorry to bump, just wanted to share my own view on the Commander 3 (not pro).

My only 2 “issues” are these:

[]Left and right d-pad responsiveness. Sometimes you really have to press it to make sure it registers. I’ve had it for about 4 months, and I use it regularly, so I’m sure the d-pad is more than “broken into.”

]Depending on how you position your thumb you’re in for some thumb wear. I would have loved a d-pad with soft material rather than hard plastic.

Pretty good overall though. Is the (pro) d-pad made out of the same material as the regular?

I only have the pro pad, - it is just normal plastic like other pads. It doesnt hurt my thumb at all, if that helps. It has a slight texture on it, but no indents like arrows or anything.

How similar is this pad to the MadCatz fight pad?

^A lot of the thread is already about that. Its not as loose, but a little smaller basically. Seems more precise to me since it is not as squishy.

i was tempted to dump $40 on the sfxt pad, but after reading so much bad press about the quality of the old pads i’ll pass. the madcatz pads look nice and loose with a nice raised dpad, but i don’t trust the quality. basically the hori pad is 1 dpad adjustment away from being the greatest pad ever made. if the hori pad would tweak that dpad…my god. moving all the buttons to the right side was a stroke of genius. i’ve wanted that for a long time. like i’ve said, i know why hori did what they did, because the way it is now you can charge with the stiff pad, you can do 360’s and 720’s, and you can do the other stuff too. in a weird way, the hori pad is like having a square gated fightstick on a pad. imo, that’s why it feels so weird. if you think about the pad like a square gate it will help a lot.

the sfxt pad looks good, but i don’t want that shit to break on me. i saluted my saturn pad when the dpad rubber connects died(lol). he was a tough little bastard. r.i.p saturn pad.

edit: check out what china has started making. they used to sell saturn pad knockoffs (sega must have made them stop because they’re no longer on ebay).

but now they’re selling these. i would buy this if they were sold at walmart or something, but i refuse to order from china again. last time it took a long ass time to get my package from hong kong.

i wish sony would make an official license for something like this.

edit:

so i didn’t buy the sfxt pad because i didn’t like all the stories i’ve heard on here about the previous pads, and i read a review that i didn’t like. but what i did buy is a final fantasy XIV windows pc usb pad, and it’s incredible. it might sound weird, but it’s a $15! pad on amazon, and the dpad is the best i’ve used since the sega saturn. it’s that good. it’s a ps3 pad, but better. the back shoulder buttons are flat, and the grips are longer and more comfortable, imo. it’s not six buttons, but it’s worth every penny. if hori was to copy the dpad of the final fantasy pad , and make a 6 button pad, it would be the greatest pad ever.

now, i just got it, so i don’t know how it’ll hold up to my abuse, but for now, it’s amazing.

Shieeet can’t get it to work on PC SSF4. First I thought that it just didn’t work on my computer but then I tried to play Super Meat Boy with it and it worked like a charm. I usually use a Madcatz TE and it works perfectly so… any ideas how to fix my problem?

It should show up as “10B” In game.

Oh now I feel stupid but thanks anyways. :stuck_out_tongue: I have to say the pad is awesome. I wasn’t expecting that the buttons were so responsive. I was hitting Sako-combos with Cammy consistently after a couple of minutes.

Glad I can help!

the Fighting Commander Pro is the real deal. The d-pad is much easier to work with than the one on dual shock 3s. Much more friendly to the thumb. Main reason for getting it was the six button layout on the face and the ability to hard switch L-R.
I’ve tried out my friend’s madcatz fightpad… it really pales in comparison to the fighting commander pro, and kinda feels cheap. Floating d-pad is way too loose imo. the buttons have a weird click for press confirms and there are no second trigger buttons (R/L2).

Is this the final pad Hori is making for the PS3? Honestly, the best d-pad ive ever played with is the original playstation 1 controller (snes is 1a!). I liked the ps1 d-pad better and the size was perfect. Im probably the only one on planet earth that really really hates the saturn controller. However, I have the Fighting commander 3 stick (not the pro). To me its a bit clunky at time, I play with my thumbs so it a bit of work some times. and the buttons you have to press hard to get responses but it may be due to being new. It is growing on me, it is the best pad for ps3 I think. Is the pro edition better than the regular 3 pad? Someone in the community should tell Hori other ideas for future pads. Id love to custom my pad so I wouldnt have any issues. Like custom buttons (I like the snes/ps1 buttons in stead of the giant clunky ones) and what type of D-pad to use (floating or ps1 type). Oh well, wishful thinking. Does anyone use the fighting commander 3/Pro pad for KOF XII? Have you had any issues?

Also if anyone is interested. I found a site where a guy makes a converter to play your snes pad on the ps3.

I just got one of these for my birthday, and I have to agree, it is the real deal. I’m a stick player first and foremost, but we have a new baby and since I’m up all night with her, it’s just a lot easier to use a pad because of both stick noise in our apartment, as well as it being much less awkward while dealing with the baby, but using the default PS3 pad makes me want to throw it across the room (the pad, not the baby!).

for me, most pads are in that ‘very frustrating’ category, actually…but not this one. I would give it a very high recommendation for anyone who prefers pad or just finds themselves in a situation where they can’t always use a stick. Honestly, straight out of the box it’s the best pad I’ve ever used, and that includes Saturn pads, SF 15th Anniversary pads, and others that fighting game players seem to like.

Anyone know how much it would cost to dual mod one of these to work on 360?

I charge $120+shipping. I don’t know how much other modders would charge for this pad mod since not many modders offer pad mods.
