Going to have to say soft. The crunch is nice but the inevitable mess kills it. The only time hard shells are good is taco salad.
I hate hard shells, they cut the sides of my mouth right in between the lips.
I’m assuming you mean restaurant wise and not actual tacos, but if you aren’t i’m sorry sir, you must not be close with any hispanics or people that know how to prepare mexican food very well.

I eat hard taco like a sandwich. You gotta bite it sideways, and be careful not to get it on your clothes. Eat it over a tray with a napkin.
I prefer soft tacos cause I like soft doughy foods. I could eat a flour tortilla wrapped in nothing but lettuce and cheese.

Hard shell taco my fucking ass. Hand made corn tortillas all fucking day. Hard shell tacos are like eating a burger on a slice of Wonder white bread. It’s like eating a California roll and saying you like sushi.

Soft tacos taste better and have a superior texture. But, I love crunchy tacos, too. If I buy a kit, I get soft/hard kit so I can have it all.
Hard shell tacos are a struggle, particularly for the mandibly challenged. I have a big mouth. My first bite of a hard-shell taco gets the first half of the taco in my mouth. It’s deliberate, of course. If you can manage to do that, you should. It makes eating them
easier and impresses on-lookers. Unless you’re fat; then it’s to be expected.

Such tacos can be found at Taco Trucks, and little carnitas stores/shops. Also at authentic Mexican homes. Recommended.

Soft shell gets soggy as fuck and the lettuce gets all wet inside, its disgusting.
Prefer soft shell myself, but when you double 'em up with a hard shell on the inside, it’s fantastico.

If all you know for Mexican is Taco Bell, I feel genuinely sorry for you. Say what you want about TJ, there is nothing like authentic Baja California street tacos. Now, being from San Diego, I obviously have a preference for Baja over main land MX, but it’s all I really know.
You do know that you can go to Taco Bell and get the ingredients. I got a head of Ice Berg lettuce for 2 dollars at TB
I prefer Gordita shells though, best of both worlds. I always get a couple of the shells, some creamy jalapeno sauce, and sauce packets when I want to make homemade tacos.
