Halo Reach: Always Out Numbered But Never Out Gunned

This, right here. In what Halo game did someone say that? Cause I’d venture a guess that most of us have played all the damn games; and I do not remember that at all. Gotta love when a WRITER can only say, “this is some old bull shit.” LOL. U MAD? Yeah, U MAD.

If you want good writing and story, you’re in the wrong medium if you’re looking in video games (excluding stuff from Bioware).

Well, I’m not getting into that (again), but as far as Halo is concerned, I’m satisfied with the basic space marine sci-fi story.

I don’t care if it rips off Aliens, The Things, and countless other movies from the 80s. Just as long as it makes sense and the continuity is there. Which I felt went to shit with Halo 2 and was only half wrapped up with Halo 3.

Anywho…how about we talk about something else…liiiiike…the multiplayer. So…people shoot at other people, shields drop, and they die. Cool man.

With Jet Packs!

Damnstraight!
…so Sword Base is a UNSC base so there won’t be any plasma swords, but there could be Longswords drools

It seems like they are expecting the DMR to be the all-around weapon of choice. I don’t really have a problem with that, since my biggest issue with Halo 2 and 3 was that they had so many large maps but most of the weapons were not effective past short range.

^

Sure seems like the DMR is focused on becoming the new BR (and just when i started to get good with the BR too).

I’m fucking psyched for this game. Got the whole day off with the wife to sit and play the fuck out of MM. I wanna get my hands on the Needler Rifle and jet pack. Has anyone been keeping up with the Bungie Updates? Crazy stuff they’re announcing. In case people here haven’t, here’s some translations found on Youtube:

The new credit system sounds pretty fair too. I really hated Halo 3’s EXP system. I’ve been sitting at a Commander status for a year and can’t get any farther.

Yeh 1 energy sword but thats not enough to call the map Sword Base

Bungie are really going all out with the soundtrack, promo was epic

You need to understand that the Bungie team has been writing tons of shit for this game. All the material Eric Nylund used came from the bungie team. So no, there is no rewrite here. They are exploring a different part of the timeline when Reach was taken, not doing a silly adaptation of a book. The problem is the same for movies. You simply can’t get the level of detail you do in a good book. There is a tradeoff for something called gameplay. Where the books contain several different events, Each game focuses on one set of actions and directly related reactions.

Oh, and the DMR is the new BR. There is no BR. The Needle Rifle is the covenant equivalent. Same with the Assault Rifle and the Plasma Repeater. I like how they’ve fixed the weapons in this game. H3 had some serious BS weapons with no point to their existence at all.

If you didn’t catch GTTV they talked about the invasion game type. Its seems like its going to be like Battlefield’s rush mode, where the attackers have to secure an area of the map and then the next part of the map opens up for the attacks and the defenders are pushed back. Since it has been confirmed that the elites play different than the spartans this is going to be a very interesting. They just took my favorite game type from Battlefield, I am now officially hyped for this game

cool, didn’t know about that. Rush is my fav as well.

It’s not a different part of the timeline if it takes place anytime during the covenants discovery of Reach. Because of the book, we already know how they found it, how they get on it, and how it falls. You can’t wiggle around that.

Now if the entire game takes place around this disposable squad of S3s, the only way for them to maintain any sort continuity would be for all of them to die before Reach is destroyed. But before then, they could pretty do whatever they want up to that point gameplay wise.

I didn’t mean a different time period, I meant a different branch in the same period. I should have articulated more clearly. A parallel to the events taking place elsewhere on the planet (that is, CASTLE base and the surviving SII’s the jolly green giant finds). And the SIII’s aren’t ‘disposable’ per se. What they are, is cheap. They possess the same strategic capabilities to the SII’s, but tactically they are weaker. In order to increase production and decrease cost, the gene pool for candidates was opened up a little, so the mods are less intensive. Additionally, they are not equipped as heavily as the SII’s. The offset is that SIII’s roll at company strength while SII’s (all of them) were platoon strength. Per capita, there was one SII for every ten SIII’s. They get the same work done, but individual survival drops precipitously. Most of the SIII’s per company are KIA at the end of the mission. So these SIII’s in Reach are, I would imagine, survivors of old companies now repurposed to smaller scale operational jurisdiction under NavSpecWar.

so I watched the GTtv episode thing, and I think I’m in love. This game looks so brilliant. I can’t wait for May 3rd.

Yep and Bungie has stated “we all know how reach ends”. I haven’t read the other books in the series so I do not know if they actually confirm Master Chief is the last Spartan, it is possible some survived on Reach. We’ll find out if any one from Noble does this fall.

There are quite a few Spartan II’s still out there actually. Is this GTtv episode on their website? I’m off to find out now.

A lot of Halo Reach info is coming out, 2 weeks until beta

Sounding like shadowrun which is not a bad thing since that game is tight and extremely balanced. Elites are the fast elf class and Spartans are the heavy trolls.

Master Chief, stuck outside the Galaxy in one half of the Forward Unto Dawn

Kelly 087, stuck in a Dyson Sphere with Dr. Halsey, CPO Mendez, and a handful of Spartan III’s.

Linda 058, see above.

Frederic 104, see above.

Jorge 052, in Reach with Noble Team.

There is also Gray Team from *The Cole Protocol * book whose fate as of the established present time in the Halo canon is unknown.

so, 8 Spartan II’s. Not many.

Mendez is alive? cool! Really liked how they portrayed him as a kind of father figure for John 117.
