Hakan Thread: I love my daughters, they are so pretty!

It was one thing being Seth and getting an SPD (and subsequently whiffing it) full screen when I was trying to do a QCF because of stupid input shortcuts. It wasn’t nearly as scary to make that mistake. But now…well, let’s say I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve done c.MK > 360 P and got destroyed by some mashed ultra. Input shortcuts are retarded.

i have question about hakan…does he have a good reversal …?? for ex
zaingif’s :3k: or :3p:
honda’s :l::r::2p: or :d::u::2k:
t.hawk’s dp+p
or a keep out like honda’s vj hp (( his jhp is slow))
i have a ad time when my friend pit-bulling with guy and fei long his 360p throw and d+hp isn’t that reliable…

Can I nominate you? lol. The frame data era, smh sometimes.

i wasn’t aware that there was a “frame data era”…you must be one of those follow the leader, nonconformist types…

what PuFF and Icege said should be common sense to everyone. but unfortunately a lot of newcomers don’t go further into the frame data . they just look at the advantage on block lol

idk if it’s just me but the shortcut issue seems to actually be worse in SSF4…

I’ve noticed a lot of online Hakan scrubs so far that seemingly don’t even know that he has the ability to oil. Out of 10 Hakans or so I played yesterday, only 2 or 3 actually even attempted to oil up. It’s like they saw a 360 motion in his movelist and said “OMG RED ZANGIEF”.

Anyway, from what I’ve gotten to play of Hakan so far, he feels pretty much like I expected…monstrously fun, but it can get pretty frustrating if your opponent is good at locking you down so you can’t oil often. I’m really enjoying him so far.

lol sure :stuck_out_tongue:

But in all seriousness. Hakan is going to be MUCH more execution heavy than I expected. Pretty much you are gonna have to constantly do the oil dance option select where you focus, dash, cr.mk, slide. Thats a lot of finger movement when you are constantly doing it.

Im just happy he doesn’t have to do MK to hands. Overall he is pretty good, but I have a feeling we have barely touched the surface of Hakan. Can’t wait to hit up the lab.

Still gotta look for exact oil setups for each character. I know for some people I can get pretty safe oils off of a slide knockdown.

That reminds me, can an opponent quick stand off either a non-oiled or oiled slide with NO followup? You have less recovery if you don’t followup and could allow for safe oils as long as they can’t quick stand.

Nope, and that’s why he’s such a nightmare to play online where ‘mind games’ don’t work and people mash like crazy during block strings. You’re going to spend a lot of time helplessly blocking things that the other grapplers could easily punish.

Oh tell me about it. I watch the replay channel on the Newcomers side and everytime a Hakan pops up (out of like the 80+ Juri vids) almost all of the Hakans never oil up and get trashed by their opponent. It makes me cry as a Hakan player

Well, he’s a new character with a unique and unorthodox fighting style, expect people to be raped while using him, especially low level players.

But it’s like they don’t even know he has oil or all they do it use the fierce version of it and pet punished everytime, making them too scared to use it anymore

Frame data is deceptive somewhat sometimes, take tiger knee for example, it’s listed at -7 on block but we all know that is most DEFINITELY not the case when its well spaced and hits on the way down.

And just because something is negative on block doesn’t necessarily mean its unsafe, things like juri’s pinwheel, fei’s rekkas and cammy’s drills are all safe on block with the correct spacing despite the negative frames, due to the simple fact that your opponent will be out of reach to actually punish it.

I’ve been playing hakan for a bit and yes like everyone else says he really REALLY struggles against a rushdown, I literately was helpless against bison with his SK pressure and s.HK, same with cammy too. Once my opponent scored an untechable knockdown I was pretty much screwed, at least gief had lariat and green hand to escape with and hawk has DP and even 360 throw.

His 360+K move I think is kinda terrible, sure it provides a gimmicky mixup but the risk is just too great and duckable on reaction. i wish you can cancel the throw so he just does the run animation like a feint, that’ll be cool. This move atm reminds me of abel’s falling sky, a SHTTER version of abel’s falling sky and his falling sky wasn’t even good to begin with as an AA or in mixup.

Again, people aren’t used to him yet, and there has never been another character in SF like this before. I am strongly considering Hakan for my secondary, and as I am playing through arcade mode to feel him out, I often have to remind myself to use oil – it isn’t natural. I think players who are attempting to use a challenging, different character should get a little bit of a break, rather then just being called a scrub because they don’t have Hakan mastered after one week.

I dont recall ever using the word “scrub” and I’m not saying I have Hakan mastered because I don’t.

EDIT: Okay I may have sounded a bit strong in that last post and I apologize for it, but it still would be nice to see a Hakan oil up when it’s safe

Point taken, and you are right, you never called anyone a scrub, my bad. Knowing when to oil safely is something that we are all going to have to get down, I think. I am working on it a little bit, but yeah, it is going to take me awhile to get to where I am totally comfortable with his offense.

lessons from yesterday’s session:

against players/characters who are overly aggressive due to Hakan lack of good anti-air on the ground… and also can beat out your oil shower with a full range fast move like Ibuki… sometimes you can’t oil up as much as you want…

Was getting hit out by ibuki’s stupid slide throw most of the time i tried oiling up after regular throws and lk OR … later i realized instead of oiling up I gotta build fear in my opponent to let me oil longer… by using oil slide mixups…

Oil slide mixup at full or near full range…

LP slide -> whiff -> OR or EX OR… this is useful especially if you still got some oil on you…

HP slide -> FA … this is pretty much a guaranteed counter hit FA if they are used to block and punish your slide attempts… but you pretty much need to guess that they are gonna block it.

regular slide -> flop… against those who are trying to interupt you after eating too much LP slide -> OR

still need to test…

MP slide… blocked on tip range… is it safe?
Slide -> blocked -> LK Super… those this work well?

Hakan is about as natural to play in Street Fighter as is using your foot for the stick shift while driving.

I’m getting beat by very basic tactics because Hakan’s means to dealing with them are unlike anything we’ve seen in the game. But you know, I’ll take my a** beatings like a man and learn because I’ll say it right now, Hakan has the potential to be the most clutch character in the cast with U2 and a life lead.

Was playing a Rufus tonight and we all know how fond Rufus is with taking his fat self up in the air. Well, as the final round was coming down to the wire, with both of us at about half and me with a slight life lead, U2 was shining. My opponent knew of U2 and knew if it landed he was borked…that changed the whole game right there. He did nothing but footsies the whole time and when he tried to sneak a dive kick in he took a ride on the “oil express” and I ended up edging.

I think Hakan will evolve into something very enjoyable.

I am loving Hakan so much, even though I completely suck with him and still trying to learn his basics I’m having a complete blast with the character, more than I thought out of all the new characters :bgrin:

Am I the only one who “shouts” along with Hakan when they play? “Ooh~ hum!”

Anyone know where I can get the VS image for Hakan? It’s one where they show a little more than they do on the VS screen itself (like some of the mid-lower body).
Thanks.

Edit-nevermind. Got it
