Yeah I feel you on that one, we’ve all died before because we forgot jab>jab> target combo doesn’t work on sakura lol. Guy has to be played with an immense amount of situational opportunism that all guy players should know these character specific situations. These spreadsheets are great for that =] good job man!
Great thread! Im picking up Guy as a second(with Makoto as main) and all this info is very useful. Im having a hard time with dictators, gief, and guile. Also i use kara overhead with his shoulder rush and spin kicks, is it useful at all to kara it?
I always assumed that the goal for Guy is to cause hard knockdowns for his mixups.
Nope
The overhead kara cancel can be used on your opponents wakeup to condition them to do what you want. For example, you can kara cancel run stop and then throw to get them to tech on wakeup. Once that’s established, you can overhead kara cancel into lp bushin flip throw, run overhead, or lp bushin flip elbow drop. If you think your opponent will dp on wakeup, the bushin flip throw will throw their uppercut from behind (doesnt work against dj upkicks, seth lp dp, or sagat lp dp). If you think they will stand tech, the run overhead will give you a counterhit combo (char specific, check that chart that kreymore made). And finally if you think they will crouch tech or wakeup with any crouching normal, use the bushin flip elbow drop, since it combos if it hits a crouching opponent. These mixups arent TREMENDOUS oki, but if you timely land one of those, especially in the corner, it can lead to a quick stun.
Guy’s #1 goal is to put his opponent in the corner as fast as possible and keep them there with his gdlike footsie/counterhit game. So depending on the character, when you are fighting at midscreen or near corner, you either play to land the run>slide for 4f safe jump pressure, finish combos with mk tatsu/ex shoulder to push your opponents quickly to the corner, or use his forward throw to quickly gain ground and push them to the corner. In the neutral game, practice buffering ex hozanto and run slide with st. Mp and cr. Mp, as Guy relies heavily upon your ability to do this.
Whatever happened to you, you haven’t been on in ages lol.
Haha! I’ve been in the lab preparing for SCR, I quit playing online, doesn’t give me the practice I want anymore, but im still very much planning on winning the first major for everyone’s favorite ninja!
Not even to play me :(.
Yeah winning a major is the only way you’re getting Guy actually noticed.
Floe doesn’t count.
Lol agreed man, floe doesn’t count! He’s not THE GUY! I might get on sometime if you wanna play, it would be nice to chat haha
Thanks for the help. I try those kara flips. I live in washington so i will try to be at northwest majors this year. Last year i try Makoto this year ill try Guy.
thanks for this
any-new-technology?
New technology is solid play.
Something few Guy players actually have. I can say I’ve run into several of our East Coast Guy players online lately. well
I am a SF noob who has been playing as Cammy but I would like to play as Guy - he seems totally badass. All this info will really help me out so thanks to all you all who compiled it…
I want to learn guy
Hey Guys, another bushinryu newbie here, what’s basically your strategy vs a Zangief or Hugo player? (expert) those command grabs could be punishing at times… tsk.
Stay away. Poke. Waste time on the clock. Poke. Waste more time.
Then fuck’em up when they get desperate.
pick sagat, lolol. just playing. i just still dont know what to actually do. its hard. all i try to do is run until i get some kind of read on what they wanna do with geif. its harder for the not so good players because its much harder to predict their moves. and definately get those punishes down. you cant afford to miss any of them. choose U2 you can punish all blocked green hands with ultra 2. you wanna practice this too because its kinda deceiving. watch for his standing MP its godlike. so learn the range. by no means am i the best, but i hate this match up so much that i have decided it will be my best one. so ive tried to learn all that i could. plus a friend of mine gave me the pointer to go into training and put the network lag to like 12 and try to punish his green hand and whiff punish some of his pokes. it really helps with teaching you to react correctly. then just keep moving the lag closer and closer to normal to until you dont miss. but in tournament i actually like to use sagat against him. unless i know the player. might be dishonorable but i would rather not be put out just because of a really bad match up. that being said i do put in the work to learn the match. anyway off topic. youve really gotta play solid because of how the match can and will sway into his favor if you make the simplest of mistakes. cant afford to mess up at all. so play perfect for the 2 mins and you should be fine.
