Guy, Gimicky?

Actually, Guy is the very opposite of gimmicky. He’s a technical character.

At least that’s what I would call a character who relies on safe jumps, option selects, frame traps and jab/short hit-confirms on attack.

He’s only gimmicky if you’re playing him like El Fuerte.

I always though Guy was an out-of-place character in the Street Fighter Series… He looks like he should be in Streets of Rage with Axel or something. I looked forward to playing with him when super dropped, but he’s so stiff, its kind of annoying. Idk, I think he’s pretty cool, I just suck with him lol.

It’s because he is from a side-scroller beat-um up Final Fight which preceded Streets of Rage. It was also before Street Fighter 2, and I believe SF2 used the engine FF was built on.

You must of never played Alpha1 or Alpha3… Guy was borderline or if not Broken in Alpha 1 and was a excellent character in 3. His transition to Super was sub-par. Capcom honestly should have kept the way back during his initial announcements and such as they did make changes to him and what not before Final Release.

su… sugoi…

guy’s a completely COUNTER associated character. you have to bait things to win. to be offensive though, you really do have to TRICK your opponent. alot of his normals and chain combos are combo able though so no, guy actually has alot of ways of beating the opponent. he simply rapes air intensive characters with his izuna drop move. so to answer the question, is he gimmicky, yes, he can be if you don’t know the match up. but once people figure out guys tricks, its up to mind games to win the match.

perfect example, i played a shoto the other day, who had me trapped in the corner… with ex’s… just waiting for me to ex tatsu so i baited a few japs and lks and HP flipped out when he wasnt expecting
