So building my first stick has left me with so many questions, even after research.

The one question I need answered right-the-fuck-now, though, is regarding viable PCB’s.

Buying an official Microsoft 360 controller is gonna run me like $40. Being the Jew that I am, I keep looking at the off-market pads like Pelican and MadCatz which are much cheaper, but I keep wondering if, since we all have had bad experiences with commercial off-market controllers, is the PCB of questionable quality for use in such a project?

the two times that I guilt a stick I used poor quality pads. They worked well hooked up as an arcade stick though. I think the biggest concern will be how big the soder points are. If you can soder the wires easily you should be all set. Also look online and on ebay for cheap controlers that you can gut. You might save a few more bucks.

Wondering the same thing myself. Is an official wired 360 control the best choice regardless of cot or will any wired be just as good?

AFAIK, MadCatz pads, or their cheap “square” Live Arcade stick are the ones to go for.

Having said that, I haven’t got mine wired to confirm yet…

The live arcade sticks? really? anyone have that one charted out? I havent seen that PCB in the padhacking thread or dang near any tut I’ve seen.

There are two diagrams at least posted in the padhacking thread. I posted one up myself; do a search of my posts (if the search function is working again).

I used a Madcatz pad for my VSHG mod. Only issue that I’ve heard with using 3rd party pads is the security chips for the pad. I’ve had a friend go through a few Hori EX2’s because the console wouldn’t recognize the stick.
