I played a Zangeif online and at one point I FP shoryu’d, FADC after the second hit, and went into an ultra, but somehow the full ultra connected. Like, not just shinryuken, but ora ora ora kicks and everything. How?

It does happen. It’s just rare.

yeah, i’ve been wondering about this too. i think the fierce DP must be a counter hit in order for the full version of the ultra to come out after the FADC (this info was in one of the other ken threads).

Is it a timing issue? I set training mode to have my hits register as counter hits, and I’m gettin nothin. Just shinryuken still. Do we just not know the exact specifics as to why the full ultra comes out?

you do have to time the ultra, but it’s not very difficult.

unless, of course, you’re combo-ing into fierce DP then FADC-ing into ultra. i’m pretty sure that won’t work.

counterhit, and really tight timing.

gunslinger seems to know what he’s talking about when it comes to ken. i play with some of the better so. cal players as named earlier, i can agree watching and learning from videos and other players is an invaluable source of knowledge.

in response to the person talking about punishing tatsus, are you talking regular or ex? it’s just timing on both. as for the person who said punishing it with a sweep, that’s a terrible idea. you need to capitalize on your punishes, and sweeping is doing the opposite.

What kind of timing are you using on the ultra? I recall a while back people talking about hitting with full ultra after srk >> fadc, and they said that you shouldn’t wait for the guy to fall closer to the ground. It’s deceptive, but you should activate the ultra asap after the fadc. So I guess try that, if you weren’t before.

I played an online game awhile ago where I counter hit a F.DP > FADC > Ultra. I did immediately after I FADC’d and I only got the vertical shinryuken.

Perhaps it’s character specific, and/or really tight timing as others have said. It most likely does have to be a counter hit though.

If anyone wants to try for it in training, you can compare where your opponent’s body is in the air to where Balrog’s body is in this video, at 50 seconds in: http://blog81.fc2.com/t/tokkablog/file/zoom2.html?id=sm5092617&w=760&h=570

Try to aim for that altitude, I guess.

That was just utterly beautiful

Great post btw gunslinger and it would be absolutely perfect if you add a quick reference for all the shorttext you are using in the guide. Much appreciate from noobs like me.

Can someone explain the legend for me. I understand cr.lk = crouch lowkick, but what is cl.rh xx rh.TATSU. Thank you

RH is “roundhouse”, the original term for a heavy kick.

Thanks… So the whole string is crouch round house, ex Tatsu (heavy hurricance kick) ?

no, cl. = close.

so, it would be close roundhouse xx roundhouse hurricane kick.

Oh, I forgot to say that cl is “close”. So it’s close heavy kick cancel into heavy kick tatsu. If you were meant to use EX something it would say EX.

not sure if this has been discussed before, but what’s the most damaging combo in a punishment situation (ex and non ex)? i’m thinking close rh xx rh tatsu/ex tatsu or fierce dp/ex dp.

i’m guessing strong fierce xx rh tatsu/fierce dp gets scaled a little more? i don’t have the game at home, so i can’t test the numbers.

Yeah, using strong, fierce scales too much, so starting off with rh is your best bet (and it won’t whiff like strong fierce can).

After the rh, tatsu does a bit more damage than srk. EX srk does the most damage of all your options, as EX tatsu doesn’t add damage.

I like:

FADC -> C.FP -> EX Tatsu.

It does quite a bit of damage and has great stun.

exactly what i was looking for, but ex tatsu dosen’t do more dmg than rh tatsu?

Nope. It’s just faster and has better frames.
