Gundam Versus [PS4] (2v2 3D fighter) - Western Release September 28!

EDIT: Giving a source to Zane’s claims. https://www.destructoid.com/gundam-versus-reveals-11-mobile-suits-new-online-mode-436445.phtml
EDIT 1a: We have unit costs for these reveals. http://www.siliconera.com/2017/05/16/guntank-dom-rick-dias-mobile-suit-units-revealed-gundam-versus/

EDIT 2: So, the Versus website updated with new units too! It has, IN ADDITION to what’s listed above…

Playable:
Zeong - 400 pts, piloted by Char Aznable (UC 0079 ver.)
Messala - 300 points, piloted by Paptimus Scirocco
Qubeley Mk. II Ple Two ver. - 300 points, piloted by Ple Two.
Re-GZ - 200 Points[1], piloted by Kayla Su. BWS Equipment also available.
Berga Giros - 300 points, piloted by Zabine Chareaux (sp?).
Corrin Kapool - 300 points[2], piloted by Corrin Nander.
Duel Gundam with Assault Shroud - 300 points, piloted by Yzak Joule (sp?).
G-Arcane (Full Dress) - 300 points, piloted by Aida Slogan[3].
Gundam GP-03 Stamen - 400 points, piloted by kou uraki. See [4] below.
GM Cannon II - 200 points, piloted by Chuck Keith. See weapons info in [5] below.

1: I find this baffling. The Re-GZ is a relatively high-spec limited production MS and is more fitting as a 300 pointer. Nonetheless, I double-checked the website and they’re confirming it’s 200.
2: Yeah, I’m confused by this one too. I wouldn’t expect a variant Kapool to be 300 while the Gold SUMO from the same show is ALSO 300 points and a Silver SUMO is 200, but whatever.
3: This is from G-Reconquista, which I have very little familiarity with, so my translations are highly suspect on the machine and pilot names.
4: The GP-03S might, maybe have the GP-03D available as some kind of special move. One of the weapons listed for the GP-03S is a “Mega Beam Gun” (which GP-03S doesn’t have), implying GP-03D is involved for this attack.
5: GM Cannon II, for some odd reason, does not have its Vulcans as a weapon. Instead, it features flashier versions of Beam Cannon and Beam Saber for certain situations.

A double post since a few days have passed and some interesting realizations came to me.

1: G Gundam isn’t the only production completely lacking a rep so far. Gundam 0080 doesn’t have one either. Both of these are unusual since the devs already have existing assets that could be used to easily bring them in. Does anyone have any insights as to why both these shows have been totally omitted for the time being?

2: A friend pointed out that unit cost reflects the default pilot as well as the machine. This explains the Re-GZ being a 200 pointer (Kayla Su is not exactly a great pilot, which says a lot about Londo Bell’s roster in UC 0093 if she’s the second best they have behind Amuro himself) and Corrin’s Kapool being 300, though this doesn’t explain Burning’s GM Custom being 200 since he’s demonstrably an ace, and the same with Apolly’s Rick Dias. They’re both at the lower end of ace pilot, but they’re not on the same level as Chuck Keith or Fa Yuiri.

3: First Gundam has no 500 point units whatsoever. The Zeong and RX-78-2 Gundam at 400 are as high as it goes. I find this puzzling, since they’re the heaviest hitters in the show. Would this hint at possible Perfect Zeong (from the MSV books) and Perfect Gundam or Gundam Magnetic Coating for the 500 pointers?

Yeah, I’m basically calling for open speculation. It’s not like we have much else to do.

Gundam X and Astray both seem to be omitted as well.

…Wasn’t Astray just a comic series though, nothing animated? Not that this is a sole determinor (we’re seeing stuff from game-only releases and so on now, it seems), but it appears to help.

What I’m curious about is what the Rick Dias’ weapon list will look like. Every single damn game seems to do something stupid as hell with it.

Gundam vs. Zeta Gundam arranged it so you could either equip swappable single beam pistols OR the bazooka (and if you had the bazooka, the beam pistols could only fire straight behind you).

SD Gundam Online split them into two units, one equipped with twin beam pistols in the hands and… birdlime. Fucking birdlime. That web stuff they shot to seal up holes in colonies and non-lethally bind enemy support personnel, which does fuck-all damage to ANYTHING. The other version had the bazooka and… birdlime! Again!

G Generation basically did fucking weird stuff to the entire Dias chassis line, such as taking away the Schuzrum Dias’ bazooka in order to have the Beam Cannons. This seems to ignore the entire point of the unit’s design.

And recent SRW games get even weirder, making Rick Dias use the beam pistol as an area-attack weapon (which makes no sense).

I’m hoping Gundam Versus finally gets the chassis right, but decades of precedent tells me they’re gonna find something else to fuck up.

Yes, Astray is just a comic series, but it seems to usually get a lot of love in these crossover games, just like Crossbone. Now that I take another look at the roster, even Seed Destiny has been omitted, even though its popular with a lot of these new-age Gundam fans.

I imagine that’ll be DLC.

Bumping because I have news. Source is a GameFAQs post citing ‘Gundam Matsuri’, but given the information is entirely reasonable and will be shown as true or not within one day… I don’t think this is some troll with a fake leak. If it is proven fake, remind me and I’ll edit this post to clear out the nonsense.

Their information is as follows:

  • the remaining units will be added to the official site tomorrow
  • rank match mode will be a free update at the end of July
  • the 1st pay DLC unit is Barbatos Lupus, also at end of July
  • Barbatos Lupus is free on release day for G Sound version
  • open demos will begin from June 1st to July 1st
  • every Thursday and Saturday night the demo will be open from 9pm to 10 pm
  • every demo will have 20 playable units, with the total throughout the month being 51 units

My responses:

Note the demo is likely Japan-specific. It isn’t clear whether we’re getting it in America or not, but I would be surprised if we do.

We do not get the G Sound edition, so if the DLC listing is true then Barbatos Lupus will be a pay-at-the-time unit for us rather than coming as a G Sound inclusion (I won’t call it a bonus since you pay more for G Sound).

Everything else, aside from the baffling 1 hour demo limit, is… perfectly plausible, so I have no reason to doubt the information. I’ll post here when/if I notice the website updating with the final unit batch. If the roster is indeed final aside from DLC at this point, I figure we did okay. I imagine they’re holding on to things like Shin’s and Johnny’s Zaku II High Mobility Types as DLC, same deal with chassis variants like the ReZEL Commander (which could make a decent 300 pointer and is so easy to incorporate that I have to imagine they’re already planning it).

This would also suggest that G Gundam will be paid DLC. I’m curious how that will work out. The alternative is G Gundam isn’t in the game at all, and I’m having trouble imagining that being the case. It’s possible, but it’s bizarre.

If G Gundam units won’t be in the game…then I’ll just go with Deathscyte from Gundam Wing.

Gundam Versus Modes trailer…in Japanese.

The ‘leak’ was true. The final MS list has been posted at http://g-versus.ggame.jp/ms_stage/ms/

For those of you who don’t read Japanese, I’ll translate some interesting tidbits (some units were implemented in very unusual ways).

MS-09 Dom: Has all three Black Tri-Stars pilots as unlockables. Interestingly, this unit has lost Beam Diffusion Cannon in favor of a Zaku Machine Gun. In other words, it has bazooka, machine gun, and heat saber but no beam-spray. It also has the option to call in other Doms to help attack, and accordingly its special is the famous Jet Stream Attack.

RGZ-95 ReZEL: Has all of its weapons from Gundam Unicorn, but additionally has a Mega Beam Launcher. This is bizarre, as the Mega Beam Launcher requires a special mounting point only present on the ReZEL Commander or any ReZEL equipping a Defenser Unit. Could mean the ReZEL gains a Defenser pack during any MBL attacks, or could mean it gains Commander wings during it, or it could just mean Bandai decided to do something ‘incorrect’ in the name of giving it a cool attack. In any case, this means they’ve already done all the visual/art work necessary to make a playable ReZEL Commander; I would expect it to show up as Paid DLC at some point. Amusingly, it has all three of the Londo Bell Tri-Stars as unlockable pilots.

RGM-79N GM Custom: Has most of its weapons from the TV show, but removes the 60mm Vulcans and replaces them with Melee Counter. I am absolutely certain of that translation (it is definitely “Melee Counter”), but what I’m describing now is a guess: It sounds like a SNK style Counter where you go into a stance and if you’re hit by a melee attack during the stance, you do an automatic counter-attack. This is a very interesting thing for a 200 pointer to have!

Hi-Nu Gundam: Is equipped with a Beam Rifle, Beam Saber, New Hyper Bazooka (I’m pretty sure it’s New, not Nu, as they write the word differently here), and Fin Funnels. Its special attacks are the “Hyper Mega Bazooka Launcher” and “Psychoframe Resonance”. The Funnels have two operating modes, but I can’t tell what they are. It might be ‘attack’ and ‘Project I-Field’, but that’s merely a guess on my part.

RMS-099 Rick Dias: To my tremendous surprise, it looks like they got almost everything right on this! It uses a Clay Bazooka, Beam Saber, Vulcan Phalanx, and Beam Pistol. Additionally, its special melee attack is Birdlime Launcher (see notes below) and its other special is a beam saber auto-combo. The only error I see is the beam saber is the wrong color; it’s supposed to be yellow, not green.

Note: Birdlime… I am not sure what they’re thinking, here. The Rick Dias has birdlime launchers in the TV series, but they’re never shown to do damage to anything. Even unarmed people not in a giant robot are unhurt by these things, they’re just meant to plug holes in colony walls. My guess is this is some kind of stun weapon meant to slow or disorient the opponent in this game, since birdlime in Gundam is depicted as strands/blobs of sticky webbing.

High Mobility Type Gelgoog: Has all its correct weapons, with its movelist using the beam rifle, beam naginata, and rocket launcher (I think they meant to say ‘grenade launcher’, it’s the underslung weapon on the beam rifle) in various ways. Unusually, it has a Psycommu System Zaku as a Striker.

Slave Wraith: Appears to be, for all practical purposes, a variant of the Ground/Land Warfare Gundam. Uses a beam rifle, beam saber, 100mm machine gun, and missile launcher. 300 points. Sounds very well-rounded.

Vigna Ghina: Fairly simple. Uses a beam rifle, beam saber, beam launcher, and can fire both the rifle and launcher together for some attacks.
This has to be a case where the pilot drags the machine down, because it’s 200 points despite being a fairly high performance machine in its source material.

Methuss: …This is interesting, because my partial translations suggest the unit has unique abilities. Here’s what I’ve figured out.
The weapons are no surprise; arm beam guns and beam saber are all it can do here. What I don’t get is that one of its special attacks implies that it is assisting something; the closest I get is ‘assisting/supporting/reinforcing action’, but I suspect I’m missing something. As a guess, I’ll note the Methuss has the ability to Repair allies in Super Robot Wars games; maybe they’re giving it Repair options here too? The picture on the website has it standing in some weird blue light field, an ability it never had in the show, so… something is up here but I’m not certain what.

RMS-106 Hizack: Is the early production version, which influences its weapon loadout. This has Zaku Machine Gun, Heat Hawk (not a beam saber, I double-checked), beam rifle, and missile pods. Interestingly, its special attack is the Mega Launcher from the Hizack Custom; this suggests we might get the Hizack Custom as DLC, since they would have done most of the work already to implement it.

Guntank: Surprisingly detailed! It has the missile pods and twin cannons as you’d expect, but it also has several unique attacks. It can go into a ‘bombardment mode’, which I recognize from the old-school Gundam games. If it’s the same mechanic as back then, this will halt the Guntank’s movement, but let you manually aim the cannons rather than rely on the game’s auto-targeting. Also, the Core Fighter is part of its attack list!
Also has a crap-load of unlockables attached to it; Kai Shiden, Ryu Jose, and Amuro are its unlockable pilots. Frau is the unlockable navigator.

Gundam Barbatos Lupus: I know literally nothing about this unit, haven’t seen the show it’s from, and the website doesn’t help. No cost, no weaepon list, nothing. All I have is that the pilot is… Orgus something-or-other The Third. And that’s a best guess translation.

Anyway, that’s all I’ve got. This unfortunately means that Gundam 0080 and G Gundam have been left out in the cold; I would expect them to be DLC later on, as their omission makes no sense otherwise.

'ello

I guess it’s time to update the OP

It’s just the MC.

Hell, that’s more than I knew; it’s not like I’ve seen the show he’s from.

So, here’s what I wonder about: How effective will 200 pointers be this time around? Most of the match vids I’ve seen of previous games focus on the equivalent of the 400 and 500 pointers, to the near exclusion of everything else.

Will we see teams that make good use of Char’s Zaku, Nemo, Rick Dias, etc. this time around? If not, what’s holding them back in these games?

New trailer showing off its 90+ Mobile suit roster…

There is some single player content, right?

I don’t really like online multiplayer, so I’m just picking this is up if there’s a lot of things to do offline

Right now I’m enjoying Gundam Breaker 3 (english version from Singapore)

Atirador: There should be some kind of ‘arcade mode’ that amounts to a basic single player campaign. Extremely basic. It’s basically the idea of playing the normal online game against AI instead.

There might also be boss battles, unsure how that’s working.

I’m tremendously amused the Rick Dias’ super attack in this game is something it did in just one episode. In Episode 13 of Z Gundam, Roberto rips off the random binder (“fuel tank”) of his Rick Dias and throws it at an enemy Hizack. The enemy inadvertently catches it… Roberto shoots it with a beam pistol. Explosion ensues.

That is REALLY obscure, but I’m pleased they put it in!

So, I’ve been watching some match vids from the online demo and have some thoughts to share:

I’m impressed by the effort they’re putting in to make 200 pointers viable this time around. The Nemo’s weapon list seems purely bland at first, until you realize it can summon a Dodai SFS to fly around the map on. It can’t stay on the Dodai forever, but while the Dodai IS around suddenly your undergunned 200 pointer is… still undergunned, but exhibiting mobility on par with far more expensive units. Example below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x05ESISz7XQ

The Marasai has shown itself to have surprisingly good beam rifle attacks for its cost as well, though this seems to come at the cost of not being good at much else. …On the other hand, since ‘good beam rifle attacks’ are such an important part of the game, this seems to leave it in a really good position.

Nu Gundam retains its Fin Funnel I-Field Barrier, which gives it significant resistance to beam rifles for a short time. I have a hunch this will make it a pretty popular unit in play.

For the next 30 hours or so, if you create a Japanese PSN login and tie it to the PS4 you use as your main system, you can get the Gundam Versus trial/beta from the Japanese PSN Store and play it. It’s fun!
