Guitar and Bassist thread

You might simply not be lifting your fingers quickly/smoothly enough or in sync with your other hand, or your strings could be set up too high from the frets.

Didn’t know you were a member on TB too?

Are you surprised? You shouldn’t be.

I guess you’re right, but I never heard you mention it. Do you buy from the classified there much or sell anything on there?

I have never bought or sold anything there, although maybe I should at some point.

All right. My box of guitar crap just got here.

Appropriately enough, I’m seeing Van Halen in Detroit tonight.

If this is considered spam please remove, but my friend’s dad is selling this. So it would be nice if someone off SRK bought it, it’s worth more than it’s going for.

Delicious.

Managed to find a store in Seoul that sells 6-string bass strings. Had tried a week or so before, and failed. Found myself wandering through the famous iPark Mall in Yongsan looking for something completely different, and found a music store, walked in, and ran straight into a 6-string bass, and knew I hit gold.

Picked up a set of D’Addarios. More expensive than I like ($40) but still cheaper than it would’ve cost to have them imported from the States to China and risk them not coming due to the poor shipping practices in China.

Thinking about going down to eight gauge strings.

Whats your current gauge?

I thought I wasnt getting enough tension on the15gauge strings I was using on my acoustics… until I tried barre chords, and failed miserably, lol.

I use nines on my Douglas WRL and tens on my Schecter C-1 plus. I usually tune to standard, but I’ve been playing around with the Schecter tuned down to C.

Obviously, I wouldn’t tune below standard with eights.

Townsend C, drop C, or regular C? i went down to Townsend C to figure out the Color Your World arpeggios… yeah i can’t double pick that

then i went down to drop B to figure out a few Cloudkicker songs, mainly this one, but i wanted to figure out this riff too because it’s so manly.

C standard (everything two tones down). I do occasionally fart around in Townsend’s C, though I can never quite get it to work the way he does.

I went through a phase several years ago when I was playing around in Robert Fripp’s tuning. It was retarded.

heh, i might try it out.

You’ll need a weird assortment of string gauges.

It sucks. You can’t do anything. It’s like starting completely fresh, except that the muscles in your hands are already conditioned to playing the instrument.

crap. that doesn’t sound fun at all.

the strangest tuning i ever tried was Soundgarden’s CGCGGE. not necessarily bad (1 fret = Barre chord down all 6 strings), but it’s impossible to not sound like Soundgarden when messing around with it.

hey guys i was thinking of learning guitar, via app store app lol.

i played violin from like 5-8th grade. how hard is it to learn guitar?

i basically just want to be able to cover the favorite songs.

You’re at an advantage if you have prior musical training.

I had no foundation to start with, and I had been playing for a couple years before I considered myself worthy of exposure to the world.

I took Paul Gilbert’s live solo with Mr. Big and slowed it down by 50%.

even at 50% slower he’s still faster than most guitarists.

Paul Gilbert in his prime was probably even faster than Petrucci or Yngwie. dude’s my fucking hero.

also, fuck Locrian that’s the one scale that won’t freaking cooperate with me no matter how hard I try to include it my music. Guthrie joked about playing diminished chords the entire song if you want to play Locrian and I kinda agree with him, lol. sounds so odd in context unless I’m feeling Buckethead and want to summon Satan along with tritone licks.

Mixolydian and Dorian are my shit now. sounds so damn good for jazz/wanking on scales/exercises.
